"War...war never changes."

Okay... I've been writing a story for a novel for a little bit, but this seems to be the perfect game for the main character.

Still working on him, though you'll have him by next week.

The cloaked figure move slightly closer to the rest of the group.
He says quietly,
War always changes. It's the killing that stays the same.

Thoyoitu turns to Pyre, amazed by his odd form, "A silent philosopher? Pleased to meet you. Quite interesting, your form. What's your name? Our numbers do appear to be increasing, don't they? Should we all have a great spirit of adventure, I am sure we'll to strike it big in this untamed land."

"the plague and the monstrosities spawned forth from it." Victor spits out. Rather resentful

His ears pick up the hushed whispers of the naga and he turns around ,surprised.
"well aren't you a welcome addition to this patchwork of people" victor muses out loud

Thoyoitu:
pyre appears to be a Nagaji, you may have seem him on your ship, but he looks slightly off to you. Your homeland in the jungle areas of the southern continent has Nagaji tribes, some peaceful, others warlike, and your races trend to complete for resources and land.

There's not open warfare, but he is different looking somehow, and it's odd that he is this far from home

Rosalyns eyes narrow as the lizard comes close but she says nothing, just llooks on.

"Oh...oh, I recognize you now. It's been awhile since I saw one of your kind, and the trip here was long and hard. Seems we both share a common trait. Perhaps we can trade tales of the homeland sometimes? But tell me, Nagaji, what brings you here to these lands? Hobgoblins, perhaps?"

To Thoyoitu
"No I am simply returning to my people in the northern mountains. This is the first ship I found going near my home. My name is Pyre"

To Victor
"Yes i was tiring of the stares of humans..."

She shakes her head, then makes another note,
so many new things, this is going to be a fine expadistion.

The one of the ships crew comes up to her, hers carry a long strapped side bag with a map case attached to it. He hads it to her.

"Here you go mam, the navigator updated the maps you asked him to do. He says they should be in order now."

She takes the bag and clips it to the side of her armour at the waist, she then hands the crewmen a silver coin.

"Thank you Ricnor that will be all"

He bows to her, then heads off to help unload the ship.

Taking up her notebook once more she starts writing again.

Shadow Lodge

Des jumps a foot into the air, and squeaks like a little boy when the Tengu startles him. He doesn't really get a chance to respond as the Birdman gets distracted by the Nagaji.

No one saw that, good, good

Composes quickly as he can and saunters over to the Tengu, Nagaji and the rest.

The party grows gentlemen, I am Somar. Please to meet your acquaintance. Pyre, if I heard correctly, and you my feathered friend?

He turns his head a bit to see if he missed any one and.. is that goblin?

The knight entered, small and riding a dog. The cherubic face and ready smile went with twinkling eyes as he took off his helmet. Upon second glance he had many implements of war that had seen action. The smiling face and eyes also revealed the stoic look of one who had seen many campaigns, and his age looked to be quite advanced for one so small. His two-handed sword looked small, but the small figure seemed quite capable of wielding it. The last thought you had when viewing this study in contrasts, was to laugh.

Tomkin:
Ah, I get the math now. I'm not sure about using agee modifiers. It doesn't make a huge difference, but there still is one. without the Age mods, the build is 17 point buy, so dropping Wis or one of the 14's puts you at the 15 bp... but I'll think about the age mods

Stat: points

14: 5
14: 5
12: 2
12: 2
8: -2
my issue being that the other players didn't use them and that they alter the point buy, particularly for Mental heavy characters. So I thnk I'd prefer to stick with the straight unmodified 15

Rosalyn seeing the rider on his dog come close, looks to the hobgoblin and asks.

"is your wolf male or female"

GM what date will you close recruitment?

Tomkin pats Donnal on the nose: "Donnal is a male horse bred for fighting. He comes from Kesh, but don't hold that against him."

New plan for stats:

17 ST (cost 7) +2 race
16 CH (cost 5) +2 race
12 IN (cost 2)
7 WIS (cost -4)
12 Dex (cost 2)
13 CON (cost 3)
Creating an odd 'main stat' to raise at level 4 shows faith in your game!!!

Victor looks at the approaching rider and suppresses a giggle at the odd image of the knight and his stead in this part of the town. He repeats a exotic poem he remembers to the party members willing to listen.
" small rider on stead
glorious presence with us
rat out the vermin"

He chuckles. The poets of the east certainly did have a flair for comedy. He stick out a hand to welcome the knight , whilst he scoots around, trying to avoid the animal
"pleased to meet you good sir knight, my name is victor. You'll have to forgive for that poem, I couldn't resist."

Tomkin are you riding a horse or a dog?

"Bene obviam fratri ex iis, quae hic fert miles?

Celestial:

Celestial=Latin
"Bene obviam fratri ex iis, quae hic fert miles?"

Rosalyn the 6'6" Garuda-Blooded Aasimar says to the Aasimar knight.

"New beginnings" - Reknar pondered to himself, as if he heard Lucian's voice in his head - "Making a difference" - it sounded again, the remnants of a conversation held not so long ago, just before he left on this very boat ride.

The weight in his backpack was a poignant reminder of his old friend - he had stuffed it with books - "One can never know too much my friend" - it was surprising how he ever managed to maintain his joviality and optimism after all they had been through together, but the man seemed to look ever forward, and some of it had definitely rubbed on Reknar, though not that much...

-------------

Walking down from the ship, he noticed the gathering of the most unusual group he had ever seen. Well, maybe not the most unusual, but one of the most varied for sure.

As he approached them, the huge man seemed veritably an implement of warfare - a well used, enormous hafted spear laying across his backpack in easy reach; multiple weapons dotting his simple, travelling attire - a mace to one side, a sword and a sling to the other, all complemented by a well polished but dented metal buckler shield, strapped to his arm.

In spite of all the carried gear, he walked casually, sporting only a lamellar armor, made of overlapping strips of leather, to protect his torso - his massive frame seeming to have no difficulties in carrying the great load.

His dark hair is somewhat disheveled due to many days travelling, and his skin is quite tanned by the sun - none of it dims the glow in his dark, black eyes as he observes them - "Well met" - the tone is calm - "Seeing so many gathered in the same place I had to come over and ask - are there any jobs up for grabs? I am looking for one myself. The name is Reknar" - he adds flatly.

Rosa looks over at the new comer,

"Well meet Reknar, We are just working that out, some of us would like go make and adventuring part and head off to the new lands, My name is
Lady Rosalyn Aanya Luminuss, I'm an explorer and Clerical healer. The others here will tell you I think who and what they are, but please, by the looks of you, you look a traveller as well"

Again she has her long spear buy her side and stand on one leg resting.

"Maybe half wanderer... Half soldier, half mercenary... I'd say I've got more halves than a chopped up orc" - the man chuckles.

"An adventuring party to head off to the new lands you say? But what do you mean by that? Settlers? Finding lands that can be plowed? You don't look like the sort" - he adds, looking poignantly at Rosalyn's weapon.

"Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against settling down - heck, if anything it probably has more valour than simply going around bashing heads of evil creatures to loot their homes" - he again chuckles, this time also shrugging his shoulders - "I'm guessing there will be plenty of opportunities for 'adventuring' around here though, this being an untamed land as I've heard" - he looks around at the surrounding area - "As an old friend of mine would say, opportunities are where you look, and what you make of them"

Victor feels a large shadow tower over him, and he steps out of it, slightly annoyed.
"you know, some of us like a little sunshine." he grumbles.

"Well met, traveller. I am perhaps planning to settle down, now that I have people to take care of. Though that's not to say the temptation to adventure won't overwhelm me..."

Stepping aside from the ratlike creature, Reknar nods - "Sorry there, wasn't intended" - he adds - "Any of you boys and girls have names?" - he follows up.

Looking at Thoyoitu he pauses momentarily - "You are a Tengu, are you not? I met one of your race once - freaking murder with a sword that one was. Almost killed me of heart attack more than once too, popping out of the darkness like some gods damned ghost" - Reknar comments - "Dissappeared once in a dastard den of orcs - never layed my eyes on him again, but the company never quite managed to dig out a scout as good as him" - he seems to reminisce in past times.

He ponders the avian's words a tad further - "You have people to take care? Family?" - the man questions, looking around.

The annoyed ratlike creature replies
"name's Victor and I'm pleased to meet you sir. There never was much of a family for me in the warrens, so I guess I'm happier to be out here."

Rosalyn looks on as they talk happy to hear what they say to each other, every now and then she looks around at others coming to see what they are about. I young local halfling pick pocket seemed to think their group was a fair picking ground until she taped him on the head with her spear, in startled him so much that in pour fear he's runs off as fast as he young legs could take him. She had looked back to the others as they talk.m on. She seemed relaxed and happy.

"Well met Reknar and Tomkin. I'm Pyre" He looks over the new arrivals.

Great another human with a big weapon Pyre thinks to himself as he re-adjusts the greataxe on his back.

"Thoyoitu. I'm here with my tri- with what's left of my tribe. In Tengu tribes, we're all family, but to answer your question: No. As much as I supported my community and others, I never stayed long enough to have own of my own. You?"

He nods at Pyre and Victor, turning to Thoyoitu - "No family of my own no" - the man answers - "Mind if I ask what happened to your tribe?"

Thoyoitu sighs and looks over at thr Hobgoblin, his facial expression not tense, but rather a display of sadness with a glint of nostalgia, "Just a war we never asked for. I admit I stole, but only from those who could live without what I took. I helped my tribe and I helped other settlers. I never once killed." He is now noticeably angry, on the verge of rage, "But them...they killed. They pillaged, tortured, enslaved. It wasn't survival, it wasn't war: It was murder."

Rosalyn is now focused on.Thoyoitu after she had asked and not found out now it seemed he was ready to tell. She could see pain in him.

lets get him looking to the future not the past shall we, use that pain constructively.
She thought

"And now you are looking for new lands for resettlement To me as an explorer that seems a most warthwile endevure, much more ambitious and Nobel, than just acruing more coin. I would be very willing to aid in such an undertaking. What are you looking for in a new land Thoyoitu after safty"

I'm looking to get started at the end of next weekend. I am looking at a long weekend of work, and I want to give the new entries a minute to hammer out some details and get a couple posts in.

cool thanks for the feed back Pyros

"I would welcome your aid, and know that I never leave my friends unrewarded for their efforts. I am not sure what I seek. Truth be told, I was not their leader. I simply collected food and whatever else we needed. I was well respected, and as such am their only chieftain they have. Running even a small tribe is beyond me, despite my intellect and wisdom. We may still have some food left, but it will not lost us more than a week at most. So fresh food and fresh water are a priority. And shelter. My people work hard, though in our lands we were poor from lack of resources and Hobgoblins, so they will no doubt see a surge of motivation. Still, we lack raw resources, and could use help collecting them."

Victor half-heartedly grumbles
"plague."

I will never blame you for doing what you thought you must, though in the future I hope you choose your targets with more prudence. I do not know this place, but I am more than comfortable in the wilderness and may be able to help you find some new homestead to settle. In return I'd ask only that you continue try to judge me by my own merits as an individual

Shadow Lodge

Looks to the Hobgoblin. We're all just hurtling through space and time friends. We can only account for ourselves and hope we are understood.

Turns to the Tengu. I suggest you look further away for lands. I believe these lands lay too close to one of the Sorcerer Kings' lands. An expansion may be taken as a threat, and a brutal subjugation is never a healthy option for a frail tribe.

Pyro was the island still in the vicinity of a Sorcerer King nation, or has some of the world history been changed?

Rosalyn looks at Desula, with a grin of her face.

"You have no idea just how fast Desula, and your right, once should not be held accountable for the culture one has the misfortune to be born into. However there dos come a time in most sentient beings lifes where they can question their culture and the ideas that hold it in place. It seems that Goandai here has had such a epihanal moment in his life. His actions seeking to redeem his race's perceived wrong doings. What he has done is what we God Learners call the Clarity he has seen past what is take as normal truth and looked for a deeper one. I believe that all free thinking minds at some point have Clarity. One must question all things, even the gods and hold all accountable for truth. Which at this moment they are not being, they and their faiths are being allowed to do as they please."

That little mind bomb dropped she go's back to looking around.

The sorcerer kings are on the other side of the continent. You are all located at an island near the entrance to the Great sea, on the far west of the main continent, the sorcerer kings are in the East. You are all aiming for the northern areas of the Central Kingdoms for various reasons. The Central Kingdoms are located n an ideal area, very temperate, the days are even length. I'll put up a campaign Page and give more information about the rather fantastical geography.

Is there a big ice wall in the north? Hehe

Victor chuckles
"that being said, we are each the diplomat and representative of our own races"
He glances around the moltely bunch of adventures . shifting his balance slighty, he continues
"Observers know us not by name, by story, they may only see us at our best, or our worst. It is noteworthy to keep in mind that despite our best efforts that we cannot change the colour of our fur, or scales, or feathers, or skin, but we can still strive to the most sensible person in the room I suppose."

"Well said Victor"

then Rosalyn spy's and dock side open air eatary setting out its tables for the day, she says to the other.
"I don't know if any of you have eaten breakfast yet, but with our number I think I can get us a discount. If your all willing to brake bread with me. Let's take that large table. It should accommodate us all. Then we can talk wile sitting."

She waves over a serving girl.

"Do you mind setting up that big table for us, under the canopy. Here's 6 silvers, bring some bread baskets and olive oil, and if you have some fried fish, two bowls, and some of thouse large tomatoes. The others may order more"

Rosalyn then indicates to the table, and then walks over, she puts her spear aganest the canopy and the takies a seat. The girl starts putting plates of bread and tomartos out.

Reknar stares with curiosity at the hobgoblin with curiosity - "You speak my language - there is no other way as I see it - if one ever finds the need to judge others, then it's gotta be by their actions and nothing more, else we'de be murdering all the half-orcs, goblins or anything else not considered 'civilized'. I've witnessed some things in my life, and I can tell you being worth your salt has nothing to do with your race. Whomever thinks so is a fool"

"You are stock full of good ideas - my belly is grumbling with hunger, so hell yeah - let us get some food and drink in us before we start talking nonsense on empty stomachs" - the man adds, moving over to the table, setting his longspear resting against the wall, and motioning for a round of drinks, while munching on some bread and cheese - "THAT hit the spot"

Victor springs after Rosalyn, feeling decidedly hungry after a long philosophical conversation.
"here's to a good breakfast! The necessary meal to the start of any strong adventurer! I'll have one of the local cheeses please. Perhaps a good creamy brie would be nice." Victor yelps, obvious delighted at the uplifting turn in event.

Thoyoitu now returns a gaze at the Hobgoblin, "Then let us both be the best our races can be? I meant no offense to you personally, I was simply expressing that...a people sharing some qualities with you had done something. Now, my new friend, let us eat and try to set aside our cultural grudges once more?" He pulls out a seat for his Goblinion friend.

by all means he sits, Nekare yawns and lies down beneath his chair.

She dips come bread in olive oil and eats it with a beaker of wine.

"Reknar your not the 1st person to say that about me. Must have been my upbringing. Alas my mother has long passed away. You know why I came here. It was some odd dreams I have been having of late. Always the same, here in this land and I'm talking to a man. He knows me and we seem to get on, but for the life of me when I awake I remember nothing of what we talked about. I went to see a dream reader and they said I must come to this land and see what it meant. She said someone or something wanted me here. I know it sounds illogical but never the less after mouths of the dream I set out. And you know what, soon as I did the dreams stopped. Odd don't you think."

She dips more bread

"Did any others here have the same kind of thing?

"Never been too keen on dreams" - Reknar nods at Rosalyn - "I'd rather deal with real life. I'm not saying I didn't have a couple of those, but heh..." - he shrugs - "Never really turned out for the best I guess"

Draining his mug of ale, the man adds - "That is odd I'll admit. Anyway, if the dreams stopped, it seems the advice you received was solid one, for a reason or another. Now... What the heck is a dream reader anyway?"

"A dream reader is a kind of Oracle, They sleep next to you for a night and read your dreams by seeing them. Then they tell you what they think it means. Mine was a nice old lady has soft bed."

She takes some cheese

"Coin is good but the only true wealth is flesh and blood "your can not eat gold" with out others to do things for your money. You would just a man sitting on a gold thrown wile he starves to death."

She bites the Cheese.
