RWBY Weapon concept

A player of mine wanted to play a Brawler that had a kind of fighting style similar
to Yang Xiao Long from RWBY. So to create this I needed to have these concepts in mind
Must use Unarmed Strikes
Uses ammo for Melee attacks

So here’s what I came up with.

----------

Blasting Gauntlets
Type: Exotic Advanced Firearm
Price: 4,000g
Dmg (M) 1d0
Critical: X2*
Range: Melee
Misfire: 1-2
Capacity: 6 X 2
Weight: 5lbs
Type: B
Special: Double Weapon

You are considered armed when fighting with Blasting Gauntlets and deal regular Gauntlet damage when
attacking with them (1d3 M). If you have the improved unarmed strike feat you may use your unarmed
damage in place of Gauntlet damage.

You may use the Blasting gauntlets to deal additional damage to your enemies. You use a swift action to
“Arm” your gauntlets doing so makes all your unarmed attacks for that round into melee touch attacks
and deal additional firearm damage to your target. Each attack will consume 1 round of ammo from your
Blasting Gauntlets weather they hit or miss. *Firearm damage is not multiplied on a critical hit nor can it
benefit from any other modifier of feat. Ex. Vital strike

Reloading the Blasting Gauntlets takes 2 Full-Round actions to reload both Gauntlets. With the Rapid reload
feat you can reduce this to 2 Standard actions per Gauntlet or
1 Full-Round action to reload both.

Due to the Complexity of Blasting Gauntlets they can only use Alchemical Cartridges in a Magazine Clip These
do not modify the reloading times of Blasting Gauntlets

-----------

Well that’s it for the weapon now for the Style feats
Concept
Uses recoil to hit faster
Uses recoil to hit with greater effect

--

Recoil attack Style (Style Feat)
You use the recoil of your Blasting gauntlets to hit with greater force
Prerequisites: Exotic weapon Proficiency (Blasting Gauntlets), Power attack, Cleave, BAB+4
Benefit: If your Blasting gauntlets are armed and using the Cleave feat you may roll an additional 1d10 to
your attack roll to hit the adjacent target of your cleave attack.
Using this feat increases the AC penalty of cleave by -1 for a total of -3 AC

--

Recoil Bash Style
Prerequisites: Exotic weapon Proficiency (Blasting Gauntlets), Power attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, BAB +6
Benefit: If your Blasting gauntlets are armed and using the Cleave or Greater cleave feat. You increase the
firearm damage by 1 size category (2d6 for Medium) to your Additional targets.
Special: you may use a Swift action to arm your blasting gauntlets in addition to activating this Style feat

--

Recoil Bash Efficiency (Style Feat)
Prerequisites: Exotic weapon Proficiency (Blasting Gauntlets), Power attack, Cleave , Great Cleave, Weapon Focus (Blasting Gauntlets), BAB +12
Benefit: When using Recoil attack or recoil Bash you only consume 1 round of ammo to affect your additional targets
The AC penalty for using the cleave feats are reduced by 2 for a total of -1 AC

Now these are nowhere near done and will require some twinking but I think I hit some of the baseline for what the player wanted. So what do you guys think any input will be much appreciated.

I dont' really like it.

Two custom firearm weapon that costs as much as a revolver. Deals more damage than a shotgun. Turns unarmed strikes into melee touch attacks, which is broken. Why can you only load alchemical cartridges if this is an advanced firearm?

It's an animu boom-fu weapon which features teenagers destroying giant stone buildings with their exciting violent battles against monsters the size of said buildings (which are, of course, immune to the boom guns) and has scythe/sniper rifles doing as much or as little damage as sledgehammer/grenade launchers (e.g. melee does lots more than ranged, and ranged often does nothing at all). Power balance and weapon style are at odds coming out of the gate.

Now as for OP...I'd make the bullet damage specific(ally small) at +1d6, and clarify that it only applies to the first 2 attacks. I'd also specify that the swift action arms both gauntlets (since your description doesn't make that clear), and drop the touch attack rule because if we're being thematic, those guns were rarely punching holes in things.

Remembering the fight scenes for that show (I actually liked it, call me a weeaboo if you wish) cleave seems less appropriate than something allowing Pounce (i.e. full attack after moving) and/or giving bonuses to an attack after a charge.

so... Brawlers already get unarmed damage at level -3 on close weapons.

just get Cestus' with flame burst, flavor as whatever.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Don't make it a double weapon. That's for when it's entirely one piece and you can attack with both ends. This concept doesn't qualify. It should be two separate weapons.

Also, the Metal Cartridges used for advanced firearms are a type of Alchemical Cartridge so it's simply an issue of using a more general term when a more specific one is preferable.

Lastly, while Yang could shoot as part of a punch, you'll notice she doesn't always shoot while she punches. Her usual style is a sequence of punches in which one (usually the last, but sometimes a middle punch) is a blast punch. So I'd say she spends a swift action to make one attack target touch and deal extra damage. She also uses the recoil to get an extra attack in a-la Haste (this could be a feat).

Regarding ammo, she also has different types. If you watch the Yellow trailer, you'll see when she's fighting the mooks, she uses ammo that just blasts up close but when she fights the twins, she switches to ammo that can actually shoot ranged.

Are you going to try implementing her Semblance as well or is this purely about trying to re-create Ember Celica?
