Would like suggestions for tweaks on this tattoo spell.

As the title suggests. Lately I've been coming up with a bunch of different spells I want to bring my Dm whenever we get to play our next session. Thought of another one today.

Name: Tattoo Safe
School: Transmutation
Lv. Wizard / Sorcerer / Arcanist 1, Witch 1, Druid 1
Casting Time: 1 Standard
Components: V, S
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 hr. / per level.

Upon casting this spell you select one item in your possession (including magical items) and an area on your skin. The item transforms into a tattoo on that area of your body. Magical item abilities that require a trigger cannot be activated while in tattoo form. Magic items do not emit a magical aura while in this tattoo form, nor does the tattoo itself. Once the duration is finished items fall adjacent to the user of this spell. If the caster is not holding anything, they may choose for the item to appear in their hands instead.

My Thoughts: I know it needs a weight limit and probably wording that makes a person select a specific article of clothing if they try to do clothing. I feel that allowing multiple uses to "stack" should be fine as they're expending spell slots on this spell. Might need to go up a spell level since it makes things not detect as magical.

The reason for the spell is if you feel you're about to be mugged or are losing against bandits and such. Turn spell book or arcane bond item into tattoo for a few hours, hiding it for a while, hoping they're not looking when it wears off.

Any suggestions? Someone better at wording?

Very interesting. Thanks for pointing that out.

Hmm. Looking at it, it's day per level and keeps the encumbrance of the item. Whereas mine is per hour and doesn't do encumbrance, plus it doesn't read as magical for that time period. I think I'll match the spell you linked in allowed weight with 1 pound per caster level.

Even if the tattoo doesn't emit a magical aura, you would still emit one based on the spell itself. If you want to hide that aura as part of the spell, that would raise the spell's power somewhat. If the spell level is less than 2nd, I would raise it to 2nd on that basis; beyond that, probably not.

Also, your spell is not specified as dismissible. Is it intended that the caster must wait for the spell to expire before getting the item back?

(Disclaimer: This is all by feel. I am not a trained game designer.)

You are correct, I do intend it to be dismissible and I'm more than willing to pump the spell up to 2nd to make it not emit an aura since having an aura would sort of defeat the purpose of the spell hiding magical and mundane items.

So let me see here.

Name: Tattoo Safe
School: Transmutation
Lv. Wizard / Sorcerer / Arcanist 2, Witch 2, Druid 2
Casting Time: 1 Standard
Components: V, S
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: 1 hr. / per level.

Upon casting this spell you select one item in your possession (including magical items) of up to 1 pound per caster level, as well as an area on your skin. The item transforms into a tattoo on that area of your body. Magical item abilities that require a trigger cannot be activated while in tattoo form. Magic items do not emit a magical aura while in this tattoo form, nor does the the newly created magical tattoo itself. Once the duration is finished items fall adjacent to the user of this spell. If the caster is not holding anything, they may choose for the item to appear in their hands instead. This spell can be dismissed by the caster as a standard action.

Newest draft. Upped it to 2nd level, gave a limit to the amount of weight allowed like the spell linked above by Amanuensis. Still think it needs a better name and the wording is probably off, but I think it's starting to look decent.
