Making a Knife Throwing Character

Advice

I'm new to rpgs, but I have an idea of what kind of character I want to make.

Combat wise, I'd like him to carry throwing knives, and these acids and potions that he can dip the knives in so the effects can be transferred via knife (I believe my research confirmed that that can happen).

I'd also like him to have speech skills like bluff or persuasion.

Alignment is Chaotic Good.

I suppose what I need the most help would be which character class is best for that sort of character. I would assume Alchemist, but Alchemy doesn't rely on charisma a lot so I'm not sure.

Many thanks if you can help.

Sounds like an alchemist would work nicely. I think the grenadier archetype would work nicely because you can use alchemical weapon at second level to add effects to your weapons.

There are traits that let you use Intelligence for social skills, or at least one social skill, I believe.

And an alchemist could spec into that stuff without focusing on the transformations and such?

Shadow Lodge

Oh yeah, he's still have them (in your case the dex mutagen would probably be the one you'd use) but you don't have to focus on It's useage,

The Grenadier archetype can build towards the transformations and such but focuses on combining weapons with alchemy.

Does it have to be knives, because mechanically shiruken would work better?

How do you figure? Daggers do more damage, fly just as far, and don't count as ammo so they don't break when you throw them. The shuriken's only advantage can be negated with quick draw.

not having to take quick draw at level 3 is a big advantage for the feat poor alchemist class.

also I don't think alchemists have shuriken proficency so you'd need to spend a feat or something to get it.

To draw daggers quickly you might wanna get quick draw feat though

There are ways to get shuriken proficiency, like half-elf ancestral arms. The primary (not only) reason I say shuriken are superior to daggers is the abundant ammo spell, poison is outrageously expensive and even alchemical infusions cost more than a scroll of abundant ammunition. There are areas where daggers are superior too, especially in terms of enchantments, but I think shuriken can be made to work better with the character concept. This is all moot however if the OP feels that shuriken are not acceptable as throwing knives.

I wouldn't be averse to shurikens, I just figured daggers were easier to come by and, looking at it outside the gameplay, easier to dip in some corrosive liquid without destroying his fingers. Plus, my character would be a casual devotee of Desna, and the shurikens are visually similar to starknives.
