Looking forward to it.

Quick question (since I haven't participated in a Kickstarter before). Can I contribute early and then upgrade when it reaches $25,000 if I want to get the hard copy of the book?

If you're on the fence, check out Mike's interview with Paco Jaen! Learn about the birth of Veranthea, what's in store for the product itself, and possibly some hints about Battle Savvy Penguins?

There are top men involved in this project. TOP. MEN.

That's true, Scott_UAT!

Read on to find out how the tengu and their cousins, the dengu and pengu, came to walk the realms of the Grand Dynasties!

Have you seen today's update to the Veranthea Codex tumblr? We've got a paranoid inquisitor archetype, the conxecron instigator, traversing all over Veranthea in search of the truth behind the doings of the divine!

Moreover the core team of artists, designers, and writers are doing a LIVE Google Hangout Q&A on Thursday night at 9 PM EST; if you're interested in the project, stop by and say hello (the link will be posted here shortly after we begin) or if you'll be unable to, drop by the Veranthea Codex Facebook page and leave your critiques, comments, and questions!

Part of the Veranthea Codex is devoted to PCs playing as dragons, and what Colin Stricklin sent across my desk is too good not to be shared! Today's update to the tumblr features the developer for Trectoyri and shows exactly why he's the man tackling the monstrous continent!

There’s a very awesome, very excellent episode of the Demiplane of Gaming where Steve Russell and Owen K.C. Stephens grill me about world development, product management, the budget, Srendath, my favorite bits of Grethadnis, the themes of Urethiel, orc biker gangs, and much, much more!

Don’t miss out on this episode!

Wondering what all the magical goings on in Urethiel are all about, what The Scarring has done to the realms of the Grand Dynasties, and what that means for you as a player or GM?

Today is your day!
This update to the tumblr describes the four types of changes wrought on the people of the high fantasy continent.
Will you be...

  • one of the Shòuquán, wrestling magic from the very air with your hands?
  • an immortal Forsaken, able to walk through the most powerful spells without a care?
  • a Blessed that uses natural magical talents to devastating effect or a Rěnshòu able to resist magic by the nature of your abundant soul?

Pledge to the Veranthea Codex Kickstarter today and adventure on the fantastic continent Urethiel!

  • There is desolation in all directions; no water, no succor, no green or growing things. The rusted remains of old war machines lie baking under a relentless sun, and all around is a boundless junkyard. There are heat shimmers on the horizon, and all approaching mounds of earth look alike.

Yet one of these grows larger. It is long and low, and as you get closer a sound follows.

    Metal crunches.
    The crowd cheers.
The Chainz are at their play.

Featuring fantastic concept artwork by Jacob Blackmon accompanying Colin Stricklin's brilliant writing!
(and though this is not Warlords of the Apocalypse, if that's your thing, you need to check this out)

The Veranthea Codex has new add-ons available to backers right now!

  • NPC Cards to easily reference the colorful cast of characters in the book!

  • A Veranthea Codex GM Screen!

  • High resolution digital maps for use with virtual tabletop programs!

  • Face Cards to solidify the impression the NPCs from the Veranthea Codex leave on your players!

  • Custom Veranthea Codex dice to bring good fortune to all of your rolls!

Go to the Kickstarter page and see what's new!

  • One of our earliest stretch goals is for the inimitable Clinton Boomer to expand the wild magic rules—see the list of effects now on today's update to the tumblr!

There's more magic for the Veranthea Codex today!

If they forsake the gods in Urethiel, where do divine spellcasters find their mystical power?

    Ancestors.

Read more about the kowah-terasa style of spellcasting in today's tumblr update! :D

2 people marked this as a favorite.

We are more than halfway funded! ^_^

There's an amazing piece of fiction in that last update (in case you didn't click through!) and we've got a second helping for tonight.

Colin Stricklin tells us about the Nightmare Gods, the great Dragonmind, and the foolish actions of the gnome god of capitalism, Matilondo!

Kratcher the ogre-magi has drawn together the disparate ex-slaves of the last of the terrible jabberwocky rulers, and her forces—along with the goblin-engineered firearms they carry into battle—are now one of the greatest threats to Grethadnis!

Get a preview of what the Red Fist Territory looks like and some snippets about the locales within on today's update!

PS: If you've been holding out, pledge now! All of the early-bird backer levels are taken, but some excellent new rewards are available! :D

The Nerd Nighters had me on their podcast to talk about the Veranthea Codex Kickstarter!

Host JR Honeycutt and the Bo'Marr Punk (creator of Pure Steam!) talk with me about tone, the kinds of adventures you'll have in Veranthea, art direction, the extensive number of reward levels, and much more!

    Watch it here!

We're also doing a second live Q&A on Wednesday September 24th at 9 PM EST! Submit any questions you've got and we will happily answer them. :D

Luis Loza introduces us to another one of the Veranthea Codex’s unique NPCs: Blind Yamabe, a warrior with a tortured soul that wanders the lands of Urethiel seeking a noble end!

Today's update to the Veranthea Codex's tumblr is another historical treatise by Trectoyri's developer Colin Stricklin—how the Dragon Mind was turned to evil and the creation of high machinery by the engineers of Goblinvania!

If you haven't been by the Kickstarter page lately, take a look—we're just about to push past $5k!
Get your pledge in now before all the higher backer levels are all gone!

We have broken the $5,000 threshold! :D

Today's tumblr update is a prestige class included in the Veranthea Codex: the entri entrapper, warriors of the woods that seek justice in a lawless realm!

    Big things going on today!

First off we've got a great tumblr post from writer Brian Wiborg Monster with some concept art from Indi Martin—read onward to see what Kratcher, Ogress-Magi and warlord of Grethadnis, is all about!

Then there's our friends at Amora Game—they've just released a PayWhatYouWant PDF of the conduit class, something being reprinted in the Veranthea Codex (and something I designed). Otherwise normal people that can absorb and redirect magic are a common theme in the high fantasy realm of Urethiel. :D

Finally there's the second live Q&A tonight! Keep an eye on the Facebook page at 9 PM EST when the broadcast is up and the hyperlink will be there.

    Whew! Thanks folks!

We answer a dozen or so questions from backers and explore "Metal Gear Veranthea" in the second Q&A!

    Definitely worth a listen! :D

Luis Loza is back again with the wondrous City of Blossoms in Urethiel!

Read about the secretive 88 thieves' guild and how this newly found settlement quickly sprang up on the delta of the Tsang-Po River on today's update to the tumblr!

The tumultuous history of dragons in Trectoyri comes to a fitting close with today's update to the tumblr by Colin Stricklin.
Read about the decline of the Egg Hunters, troubled start to the School of Vile Shadows, and enjoy the statblock of its head professor—High Mage Grukorii Felltongue!

If you've been holding out on pledging until the end, get ready—the last week of the Veranthea Codex Kickstarter begins this Sunday night and continues until the night of October 5th!
Pledge now before the backer level you want is gone!

Get your weird Wild West on!

We've been saving the very best tumblr updates for the home stretch!

There's something truly amazing coming on Monday, but today's post is savory indeed: grab your six shooters and head down into the Forever Dark—if you dare!

This seems to have stalled - after such a quick start. I would have thought that the RGG name would have sold this.

I think the lack of hardcover until $25000 may have been part of the issue - you did not get the $100+ pledges from people wanting the Hardcover.

Still astonished that you are no longer trending to the target - it looks good to me

The hurdle for the hardcover is considerable and as you point out, quite daunting, but I've learned that some of the advice I've been given (have all the work done ahead of time) wasn't entirely accurate; it should be, "have all the work paid for ahead of time"!

Without the kind of capital that other projects started with (for instance, Rise of the Drow, Snow White, the current Southlands project) there just isn't a realistic way to go straight for a hardcover print run while at the same time getting together content.

I've been on top of Kickstarters with an eyeglass for the past two years, and I'm positive that the projections on Kicktraq.com and similar sites aren't accurate in this case—we've been planning on a strong kick in the end throughout the campaign, keeping all the really good announcements for last.
With all the strong competition around, I'm glad that we've still got the best tricks in our trunk!

Later today there's a REALLY big announcement but for now, I've got the green avenger prestige class along with some juicy back story for the fellow on the cover.

Keep an eye out for the big news—as soon as I get the green light I'll post about it here! :D
