Item creation for a 3.5 item import

Advice

Hey all,
I am GMing a game, and for the first time (in all the adventures I've ever ran) someone wants to do some crafting.

Here is his request:
HEALING BELT
Body Slot: Waist
Caster Level: 3rd
Aura: Faint; (DC 16) conjuration
Activation: command

While wearing a healing belt, you gain a
+2 competence bonus on Heal checks.
This is a continuous effect and requires
no activation.

In addition, the belt has 3 charges,
which are renewed each day at dawn.
Spending 1 or more charges allows you to
channel positive energy and heal damage
with a touch.

Using
1 charge: Heals 2d8 points of damage.
2 charges: Heals 3d8 points of damage.
3 charges: Heals 4d8 points of damage.

Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, cure
moderate wounds.

I just want to double check my calculations for this because he is insisting that its only going to cost 500GP

Here is my calculation:
For the +2 to healing 2*2x100=400GP

For the healing charges I am calculating this as 2 uses per day as the max heal is 4D8 so its 2 for SL x 3 for CL x 1,800 / (5/2) = 4,320GP

so 4,320GP + 400GP for the skill bonus = 4,720GP / 2 for crafting = 2,360GP total cost to create.

Does that look correct to you?

Thanks for looking!

FYI that item is from the D&D 3.5 Magic Item Compendium Pg 110, know as a 'Healing Belt' and in that they charged 750 Gold pieces for it.

It is in fact a cut and paste word for word from the book with the exception that in the book it also gave the activation time (1 Standard Action) and the cost to create as 500 Gold.

Not sure why the street price is only 750 when the creation cost is 500 but that is where this comes from.

It was considered to be a must have low level magic item back in the day.

Hope that helps.

As Gilfalas said he's insisting that it costs 500 to craft because MIC said so. However MIC had a ton of way underpriced items and this is one of them. Basically healing belt was the wand of CLW of 3.5 but it recharged itself every day. The party could buy a bunch of them and just break them out for out of combat healing

Your math is numerically right but you used the formula oddly. 4d8 healing is for the 4th level healing spell and it effectively only has 1 charge when used that way.

Personally I would calculate it this way

The most efficient healing comes from using 1 charge 3 times as that heals 6d8. This isn't Cure Moderate exactly because no flat +CL bonuses . However the belt has the versatility of having a nice 1 shot emergency heal so we can call it even

Heal bonus
2^2*100 = 400
Command Word Cure Moderate
2 * 3 * 1800 * (3/5) = 6480
Total 6880
Craft 3440

There are many magic items with a price that is not as high or low as you would expect by the rules. Keep in mind that a) items in 3.5 were sometimes underpriced and b) 3.5 is not Pathfinder.

An item that cannot be exhausted and heals every day is worth more than a wand of CLW at least, whatever the correct formula may be.

Awesome, Thanks for the responses! All of it is extremely helpful. Dastis, I think what you are saying makes a ton of sense, I think I will go for something along those lines.

Thanks again!
