Bloodrager questions

Rules Questions

Just some quick stuff on the Bloodrager that I seem to be a tad confused about. Quite sorry if this has been brought up before, but with the book only (relatively) recently being released, I'm only just now starting to see some of this stuff.

Minor question: Is the Bloodrager's Alingment requirement meant to be Any? I only ask because not only do Barbarians normally have to be non-Lawful, but they also lose their rage ability if they become Lawful, and Bloodrager seems to imply that bloodrages are very similar to Barbarian rages. Otherwise I have no problem with this - the concept of a Lawful Good Bloodrager even makes sense using the Celestial bloodline, but it seems slightly contradictory. This means that the Bloodrager could multiclass with a Paladin, but ironically enough not a Barbarian in some cases (if multiclass can even happen, though I haven't seen anything saying that it can't).

Bigger question: What caster level does a Bloodrager have? Does it indeed use its full Bloodrager level as its caster level? I only ask because it doesn't get casting until 4th level, and other casters who get late casting (quarter-casting), like the Paladin and Ranger, have a caster level equal to class level -3. Part of it seems like it should be full caster level since it's based from Sorcerer, but it's also not a full casting class (or even a half-caster). Even further confusing is "For all spell-like bloodline powers, treat the character's bloodrager level as the caster level.", implying that the Bloodrager doesn't normally have one.

Yes, it's intended to be Any alignment. Yes, you can't multiclass into Barbarian if you're Lawful, but that's the design. The Sacred Fist Warpriest, for example, doesn't have the Lawful requirement of the normal Monk, and the Brawler (which has the Monk as a parent class) doesn't have any alignment restrictions, either.

Also, Bloodrager's caster level is intended to be the same as its class level. Because it is more based on blasting spells than the Paladin or Ranger, it needs to be that way.

Gotcha. Thought it was something like this but wanted to make sure.

I suppose the question, then, is if Bloodrager has caster levels before it has spellcasting. The "treat Bloodrager level as your caster level" threw me off more than it being a quarter-caster with a full caster level. This certainly makes sense - Burning Hands at fourth level doing only 1d4 of damage is worthless - but it's a bit iconoclastic compared to currently existing classes.

Since it doesn't get the Spells class ability until level 4, it doesn't have a caster level until then.

I think it might still count as having access to its spell list for the purposes of wands and spell completion (so that you could use a wand of burning hands without UMD, just like a Paladin can use a wand of CLW before they get spells) but don't quote me on that. That is likely me misremembering something I read.

You have it right. They have a spell list from level 1, but don't get a caster level until level 4.
