Looking for a creature's type

I'm working on a creature I may be intending to use in an adventure, but I am having trouble finding an appropriate creature type.

What I'm thinking of is an incorporeal, naturally invisible creature race that can only fully interact with the material world when they use a symbiotic possession ability to possess a corporeal creature which will usually be a humanoid. They should be living creatures, though, not undead. All the other creature types don't seem to fit either, so I'm stumped of what to assign.

Any ideas?

When all else fails, Aberrant. :)

Any reason why you wouldn't use Outsider? You could even go native if you wanted it to be naturally occurring on the Prime Plane.

Hm, do we have any precedent for an incorporeal non-undead creature at all?

Does it matter?

I disregarded outsider because, well, the creature should be non-planar. Native outsider might be a possibility, though.

Not really, I was just curious.

The only other thing I could come up with, aside from Aberrant which Zhayne mentioned, is incorporeal ooze but then you're "stuck" with them being mindless.

Although I suppose another option would be custom race from ARG.

Actually the ooze option occured to me, too. The creature type entry says they can in fact be intelligent, or rather they are mindless unless the creature entry says otherwise. Hmmm.

Edit: the color out of space from Bestiary 4 is an example of such a creature. Might work.

Bestiary 1: Shadow Demon (outsider)

Bestiary 2: Animate Dream (outsider), Axiomite (outsider), Petitioner (only those from Limbo; outsider)
Bestiary 3: Void Yai Oni (outsider; does not possess the subtype naturally, but can assume a void form at-will which grants it)
Bestiary 4: Aoandon (outsider), Colour Out of Space (ooze), Comozant Wyrd (outsider)

"...can only fully interact with the material world..."

So it's trapped on/from the ethereal plane.

Yeah, outsider.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

That sounds like an outsider native to the Ethereal plane.

Ethereal outsider sounds good, probably better than a weird ooze. Thanks!
