Will Alpha be extended this week?

GW Developers,

Since were going into the last several weeks of testing, I was wondering if Alpha will be extended beyond their current set times?

Isn't this the very last Alpha test before EE ?

Also curious to know if there is a reset/wipe this Alpha.

They were thinking it might, but there were problems cropping up Labor Day weekend that may argue for a delay and further testing.

I would totally support a delay, if it meant that people coming into EE would be able to play without frequent crashes to the desktop, and without needing a copy of the developer spreadsheets open to know what their feat choices mean.

Those of us in Alpha (whether we paid for it or were invited in) know that we can expect a buggy experience. That's what Alpha is for. Anyone who hasn't been following this board, and just receives an email saying their EE credits are available to spend, should have a reasonably well-running game to play. They won't know where to go for dev spreadsheets or leveling instructions.

I've just received an Alpha invite. When can I log on to play in the Alpha? Is it just on weekends, and the devs fix problems through the week, or...? What time does Alpha go live, and where is this information posted (as I couldn't find it on the Goblin Works website / forums)?

All you need to know should be in the email.

This is all I got:

______ has sent you an invite!

Click the link below to redeem it.

You'll be asked to link this invite to a Goblinworks account. If you do not have a Goblinworks account, you will be taken to the signup page and may create one there (Note: this is not a paizo account).

Did you follow the instructions and create an account or redeem it?

The hours of the alpha are typically (in PDT): Thursday 3:00 pm to Friday 6:00 am. Friday 3:00 pm to Monday 6:00 am. If you have redeemed your invite, you should find more info there and will get an email about this week's alpha when they send it.

There will also (most likely) be a blog tommorrow. :)

Specific instructions for the next alpha weekend weren't in my general automated invite email either. Later weekends you're on the mailing list and get the e-mail Valk is referring to.

The basic alpha schedule (all times Pacific zone, USA) is we can start to look for the newest build around noon on Thursday but it's not promised to be up until the alpha server goes live at 3pm. There's a down during the Friday work day but it's back up at 3pm Friday through the weekend until 6am Monday. Monday to the next Thursday is when they go under the hood.

This week is when they're changing from alpha servers in the office to their bigtime full game servers. We found plenty pf things for them to work on last weekend it seems like a really full week for them if all of that plus companies plus elves and dwarves are going in for next weekend.

Of course. Clicked through all the agreements and everything over on Goblin Works. Everyone talks about some mysterious email, but I've only gotten the one.

EDIT: Oh, great. That's what I was expecting. Just wanted to know when I should try to log in again. I'll keep an eye out for this mysterious email within the next couple of days.

How did you beat me to post in all that heavy armor? Well I added the bit about looking for the new build a little early and getting a head start on the download.

@martryn, Alpha Intro Package. That should probably be Stickied.

You will get an email when they release the details about this weeks test.

Your first email normally comes a day-or-so before the server goes live.

This is pretty much exactly what I was saying after logging in for the first time into Alpha 6. I was unable to get into Alpha 7 due to being out of town all weekend, and I'm hoping that Alpha 7 & 8 really get this closer to 'ready' for an audience of committed, but still casual player (not reading the forums daily and willing to go hunting down information just to start a character in their first few hours in game). However, what I saw in Alpha 6 was still quite a ways from being ready for that state. If they have to delay it a month or so, I think that's a good decision right now.

The inclusion of tooltips will definately make this game closer to a beta-ready product.

One big thing though is have they got the OR code working in role progression. Once beta goes live our skill purchases are "for real" and as far as I've heard there will be no respecs.

So character progression needs to be working pretty well before releasing the EE becomes a good idea.

Obviously a script kiddie spoofing the server with his location.
