Opinions, is a Sorcerer bloodline abilities far more powerful than SM 1-9 ?

Homebrew and House Rules

I had thought it seemed like a fair trade to trade out my summoners SM 1-9/+Gate ability for the abilities from a sorcerer bloodline....another member of our group thinks that's not even close to comparable....am I just being daft ?

Bloodline is objectively worse but I would allow it.

Liberty's Edge

The bloodline is probably weaker in a straight comparison, however, I would never allow it due to the summon monster being much more limited.

That's not a good trade, imo. Summons are just incredibly useful and strong. No matter what your party is like or what you're facing, you'll almost always have a summon that will help. It's really that good.

A bloodline is a nice roleplay tool, some cool flavor for your abilities and maybe a little utility like claws or limited flight, but I wouldn't give anything up for it if I could help it.

I could see allowing bloodlines on a case-by-case basis; I'd be hesitant, as a GM, to blanket allow a trade-off, however.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I agree with the others that in a straight comparison, the Summon Monster SLA of the Summoner is better than a Sorcerer's bloodline. There's just one niggling detail: a Summoner cannot use his SLA while his eidolon is summoned. A bloodline will not have this limitation so this is pure benefit when the Summoner's eidolon is present, which will be much of the time. So no, I wouldn't allow this at all.

Thanks everyone...Dasrak..I think that was the point I was missing :) Makes more sense to me now.
