So while I was waiting for my subs to ship (that order is still pending) I thought I'd order the S&S card game character mats and the adventure mat. That order (# in the subject line) looks to be split into two packages - the adventure mat, and everything else. That doesn't bother me, but the shipping seems awfully high - nearly 1/3 the total cost of the order. Would combining this order with the july and august subs save on shipping?

Just for info, I recently ordered the adventure mat and character mats in a single order but they got broken into two sets for shipping. And yeah the shipping seemed to be quite high, on both the adventure mat and character mats. For the character mats, the reason might be the weight (I got both standard character mats and add-on mats and the total was 2 lbs.). The adventure mat shipped in what looks to be it's normal display packaging - rolled up in a long triangular box. The play mats are much smaller than this (but thicker) and the display packaging is just a plastic bag so they needed to go into a real shipping box. It looks like if they combined the two, it might have to go into a much bigger shipping box. But it sure seems like it was more to ship these two smaller packages than one bigger one might have been, but I admit to having no real data.
My guess is that they have the adventure mat set up to always ship by itself due to the length (25").
That makes sense. I did get the character mats for RotRL, and I don't remember the shipping being that high, but I think they were included with some other stuff. I'll take a look.

Edit: on the previous order, the character mats shipped with a bunch of other stuff - books and such - and the total was over $100, so I got the $10 off and the shipping cost me $8.69 after that discount. I guess I need to spend more. :-)
