Need some Iobarian side quest help.

My game started back up again at last and though the adventure logs aren't coming in as fast as I'd like to repost them here, the PCs are enjoying themselves quite a bit.

The downside is that they nervous about tackling Artrosa with the way they are. Granted they are Mythic characters, but they are still coming out of every fight looking like John McLain on a bad day. The ranger's AC is 17 and the cleric's AC is 18. They want to fix that, so they are going on a little side quest/raid.

Their plan is to get a wagon, go down to Daruthrost, plunge into that desolate place and then, on the way back, make a stop by Zvartjan and see what sort of treasure might be there.

Of course that is only the big ambitious plan. They will probably go back up north after Daruthrost (I'm planning a big Barghest/Goblin Tribe thing that I've always wanted to try) as it will sorely tax them, but just in case...

What could possibly be in Zvartjan? Cyclopes ghosts are obvious, but what else might raise a fog over the placid lake and drive explorers away?

Zvartjan, hmm? An old quarry worked by giants in the distant past, the stone used to build monuments that still dot the landscape? A place of power of the ancient cyclopes, avoided by the contemporary centaurs? Sounds like it draws great deal from Storval Deep and Vordakai's Tomb to me. Maybe you could draw some inspiration from "Hook Mountain Massacre" and "The Varnhold Vanishing?" Conveniently, both of these, as well as "Maiden, Mother, Crone" are third chapters.

Maybe you could do something with Leukodaemons, them being plague instigators and all. Haunts could accompany ghosts.

Leukodaemons are pretty cool, but I'm going to steer away from the plague as anything but a looming dread. After all, it HAS been a long time since it has been a worry and they will have lots to deal with as it is.

Hook Mountain Massacre is something I haven't considered lifting, but I do remember a good deal of horror to go with it. Plenty of torture horror to have with that.

I haven't actually read The Varnhold Vanishing, but a cyclops lich is something that you just don't see every campaign. Maybe I can put the lich as having just regenerated recently and has gathered the local undead under his control.

Also, I was trying to think of some aberration based horror that might be on the island. Something that the cyclops had awakened and caused them to abandon the quarry.

However, first I have to make a goblin tribe led by a mythic greater barghest.
