Depending on the mount what are the conditions/can a mount fight without me riding it? since from my basic understanding cavaliers are the worst class in the game without being outside and mounted. is there a way some class can have the mount for outside combat and a pet sort of deal inside buildings?

yes and no.
can a mount fight without me riding it? yes using handle animal checks to have it attack and what not. The cavalier's mount works just like an animal companion.

is there a way some class can have the mount for outside combat and a pet sort of deal inside buildings? you could have a normal horse for a mount and an animal companion that was a pet. or play a small race with Undersized Mount feat to ride a small mount and have a small animal follow you. "Oh this is my seeing eye dog. :D"

Yes, mounts can fight without being ridden. They work pretty much exactly like druid animal companions.

Taking a horse inside a building may have all kinds of other problems, though.

The Exchange

Eh, whenever one of my players want an "inside" cavalier, they usually go a small race with a medium mount. Like a wolf or dog kind of thing. Had one Halfling riding a Goat. That was interesting.

ok so depending on the building i could have something like a large spider? or for the tenguhatamoto can i have my large dire boar inside a building fighting along side me if i cant ride it?
