Inspired Blade still charisma based?

Rules Questions

Hey guys, I was looking at making an inspired blade, and I was pretty stoked to see an intelligence based swashbuckler. But then I noticed that only like two of their abilities become intelligence based, while everything else stays charisma based, such as charmed life and most of the deeds.

Am I missing something? And if so was this deliberate or just a mistake in printing?

I don't think it's a mistake really. They're touted as still charasmatic just also intelligent

It was intentional, all that was done for inspired blade was that instead of being able to gain Panache back using Critical Hits and Kills, it made it just Critical Hits but let you add your Int. bonus to your Panache pool.

It is just a minor bonus for an even more minor penalty, not a class redesign.

Ah, alrighty, thanks for the quick responses guys. Darn, I was really hoping I had missed something and they were a completely int and dex based martial.

Though you can get pretty far with just int.

The minimum you get from either stat for your panache pool is 1, so even if you dumped Cha you'd get (Int mod+1) panache points.

Besides that, the only abilities I see reliant on charisma are Charmed Life and the Dodging Panache deed. Those abilities require an immediate action anyway, which you might find another use for.

Speaking of which, am I the only one that thinks that Charmed Life seems like an ability that was thrown in to fill in space?

It should have been a reroll, x times a day.

Yeah, I really wanted a rapier based character, so I went with Inspired Blade and went with a 16 charisma, even though I've got a 10 in intelligence.

I'm happy to see that someone else noticed the nice panache thing. Charisma and intelligence are listed separately, so it always gives at least +1 to the pool.

I think that the charmed life ability will be very good. Swashbucklers only have one good save (reflex), and are already wanting to get high dexterity and charisma, so their will and fortitude saves are bound to suffer. I think charmed life will help to compensate for that, so that the first dominate person spell thrown the party's way doesn't wreak havoc on everyone. Iron will only goes so far haha.

Charmed Life is solid. There's also Steadfast Personality from the same book for charisma to will saves vs mind-effects as an insight bonus, the irrepressible trait for charima in place of wisdom for will saves vs compulsion/charm, and the cap of the free thinker to roll saves vs mind-effects twice and take the better result. So even without jumping through hoops to get divine protection/divine grace, that's a lot of Charisma to will!

If you want INT based Swash, play a Kensai magus and pick up the Arcanas that let you grab the swashbuckler abilities.

I guess a level dip is acceptable for extra panache and the free feat.

Going off the kensai magus idea, Dipping into the Swashbuckler is a great idea, Largely because of the swasbucklers finesse which allows you to use a one handed slashing weapon with weapon finesse.

I did this so that I could have a Dex based Katana wielding Kensai, much fun.
