Making a Harpy Variant

Homebrew and House Rules

Liberty's Edge

Ok so I have a homebrew Harpy race whose stats are as follows:

Ability Score Racial Traits: Lesser Harpies are naturally agile and quite attractive, but are generally physically frail. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, and –2 Constitution.
Type: Lesser Harpies count as Monstrous Humanoids. They receive Darkvision 60ft.
Size: Lesser Harpies are Medium creatures and thus have no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Base Speed: Lesser Harpies have a base speed of 30ft.
Darkvision: Lesser Harpies have Darkvision of 60ft.
Flight: Lesser Harpies have a Fly Speed of 30ft with clumsy maneuverability.
Skill Bonus: As Lesser Harpies spend most of their life on the wing, they’re competent fliers and naturally agile. They receive a +2 racial bonus on Fly and Acrobatics checks.
Light as a Feather: Due to their generally slight build and hollow bones, Lesser Harpies are fairly easy to muscle around. They receive a -2 on CMD checks as a result.
Musically Inclined: Natural talent and evolution have gifted Lesser Harpies with a better grasp of harmonics. They receive +2 DC on spells with the [Sonic] Descriptor.
Natural Attack: Lesser Harpies possess foot talons and receive a Talon attack for 1d6.
Languages: Lesser Harpies begin play knowing Common and Harpy. A Lesser Harpy with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Dwarven, Elven, Halfling, Gnome, Undercommon, Centaur and Orcish.

Anyway, going off this picture, the Harpy race above is based off the Okepetian variety (which seems to be the Pathfinder standard type of harpy). I was looking for suggestions on making a variant based off the Aellean variety of Harpy. I was considering a speed increase at the cost of to-hit with non-natural weapons or something along those lines.

Sovereign Court

Well if you don't have stryx in your world, you could just reskin that harpy variant to use Stryx stats.

Liberty's Edge

Well the main thing I'm wondering about is how would I go about representing having wing-arms stat-wise. I think what I'm looking for is more along the line of an Alternate Racial Trait bundle (Like Wild Elves or Tower Elves).

Sovereign Court

Well you could go many ways about it, depend on how much fun you want to have:

-Winged arms, don't get the bracer magic slots (some players might not be too thrilled about that).

-Give them access to a cool feat, maybe a re-skinned Deadly Dealer feat where you can throw your feathers as magical lethal weapons.

-or just have them use the wing-clipped racial trait for stryx trait by default, where they can take a feat to get better at it...which is fine.

We have a race much like this in our world as well, we refer to them as Civil Harpies since they're descended from a group of harpies raised among less hectic/evil cultures. All harpies in our world - regular and Civil alike - are the Aellan variety; the Okepetian shape is reserved for a different race, an elven cousin race.

What we've done is give them a trait called Handless:

Quote:
Handless: A civil harpy lacks hands, having wings with small but non-dextrous claws instead of arms. A civil harpy is capable of wielding weapons and manipulating objects with her talons as efficiently as another creature would use their hands, but must be flying to attack with a talon-held weapon; if standing on the ground she cannot use her talons to hold a weapon and attack, though she can make natural attacks as normal. She cannot make a talon attack if she is holding a weapon with that talon, though she can make a weapon attack and an attack with an empty talon as normal. Civil harpies can choose to wear hand-slot items such as gloves on their talons instead of foot-slot items, but cannot wear both.

Here you go!
