Feats for a sorcerer

Advice

Hi there guys!

I have a question about a lvl 5 sorcerer multiclassing as a lvl 2 dragon disciple. I already have a couple of feats and I was wondering which one I should take now.

The feats I already have are: - Toughness, Light Armor Proficiency, Arcane Armor Training, Improved Initiative(bloodline)

I've obviously read the suggestions in guides but I wanted opinions and maybe think outside the box kind of suggestions.

As for some more background info. It's a draconic sorcerer / dragon disciple who dabbles in the red dragon and fire.

Stats are:

Str: 15
Dex: 16
Con: 16
Int: 10
Wis: 12
Cha: 21 (headband of charisma)

He has 19 AC at the moment, 6 fortitude, 5 reflex, 7 will.

Mainly leveled skills such as knowledge arcana, spellcraft, use magic device.

He doesn't really use a weapon since he mainly uses magic.

Has a s&*$ ton of wands(uses fireball the most) and two meta magic rods (Silent and Quicken).

Spells are:

lvl 0:

Read Magic, Detect Magic, Light, Spark, Open/Close, Ghost Sound, Arcane Mark

lvl 1:

Mage Armor(bloodline) Memory Lapse, Shocking Grasp, Magic Missile, Vanish (planning on getting feather fall next)

lvl 2:

False Life, Resist Energy(bloodline), Blindness/Deafness (planning on getting rope trick next)

lvl 3:

Haste (planning on getting fireball next and I'll also be getting Fly for free because of bloodline)

Also I'm getting my fire breath weapon next level :)

Oh and teammates are: Fighter, Barbarian, Rogue and Paladin

So I'm the only full caster around.

So yeah. With that background what would you recommend?

Thanks!

If you consider yourself a caster, take spell penetration and greater spell penetration. SR is the bane of casters

Alright, are there any other suggestions?

What Tangaroa said. Blaster caster needs to pass SR.

I would recommend also Spell Focus and Spell Specialization or Mage Tattoo for increasing the level (and the number of dice that get your arcana bonus) of your blasting spells. Also, Intensified spell could be finally necessary.

Elemental spell is necessary for fire inmune creatures. But I would recommend getting a minor rod.

Also, I don't know how you consider rods in your home games. If they are weapons, you perhaps will finally be needing Quickdraw (too many rods to select when casting).

Oh I didn't know there was an Elemental Spell. Must have read past it. Certainly this would be an amazing advantage since my DM knows that I mainly cast fire aside from a single shocking grasp. If I use this and also take spell penetration, then he's going to have a hard time defending :)

I would skip Light Armor Proficiency and Arcane Armor Training. Arcane Armour Training takes a swift action, and you need to use it every round you want to cast spells. It is not feasible, you will have to deal with ASF sooner or later, even in light armour. If you want higher AC, buy a wand of mage armour, that's +4 armour bonus without having to worry about anything armour related.

Why did you pick dragon disciple? I dont know, you seem to not be an optimizer from feats taken and so on, but I just cant see how the dragon disciple is helping you at all apart from crippling your spellcasting progression.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Probably because is cool.

My dragon disciples usually don't have arcane armor training and have instead arcane strike. For attacking in melee and also, if DM allows, for adding damage to rays (hello scorching ray). I have not mentioned it because you already have your swift action covered each turn (Arcane armor training and that rod of quicken spell).

I used to melee as well but that was before our other casters died. Some people are playing their second character in this campaign. No real use for me to be a constant caster and since Dragon Disciple is a nice touch to str and AC, I chose that. Nowadays I'm the only real full caster so I mostly cast now in stead of melee.
