At first level, all gunslingers get Deeds, Grit, and Gunsmith. The Gunsmith ability grants them a battered firearm for free (and a free Gunsmithing feat). Although the Bolt Ace Archetype alters the Deeds and Grit abilities, it is silent on Gunsmith, meaning the ability is unaltered.

Not so much a rules question, so much as an rules oddity. Weird.

There's already a thread discussing this and how it doesn't fit the archetype, actually...

It has been mentioned a couple of places, but I think this is the most active bolt ace thread going at the moment. A few suggestions have been to replace firearm proficiency with repeating/hand crossbow proficiency and Gunsmith with Rapid Reload (light/heavy crossbow).

Yeah, found the Bolt Ace thread a bit after posting this. Some good discussion there.

We can let this thread die now I think. Thanks!

No, don't let it die yet.

Back on topic, it is there so you get an extra 3K money from selling the masterwork gun.

Except the gunslinger's starting gun explicitly has a resale value of only 4d10 GP worth of scrap.

Before it is repaired, yes.

But once repaired, it is no longer broken and worth full value.

Its worth nothing, just 4d10gp as noted, anyone using it except the gunslinger tret it as broken.

I would really love to see this archetype errata'd.

Trading the free gun for proficiency with all crossbows seems like something that should have been already done.
