Pseudo-Ranger Class as a placeholder for the real thing later on?

Pathfinder Online

I don't have access to Alpha (hint hint) so I am limited in my ability to write this post. But here goes, anyways:

I would love to play a ranger and will be, basically, playing a ranger from day one. But, under the current system, it will actually be a fighter with a mix of abilities from the Cleric and Rogue classes, at steep costs.

I understand that Ranger and Druid are both on the deep back burner right now due to their animal companion systems, even though animal companions are not all there is to either class.

From what I understand, each class comes with a "package" of abilities that they are most adept at but still have access to everything else out there. So, in theory, a fighter could train up some priest spells or rogue attacks if they wanted to- just at a much steeper cost.

From where I am sitting, it seems GW could put together a pseudo-Ranger class just by "repackaging" certain fighter, rogue and cleric abilities. For example, the Ranger package might give Rangers a slightly better rate on buying cleric spells and add Rogue stealth abilities (if that system is up yet...) to the list of advantaged items. Correspondingly, certain fighter-only feats could be removed.

This wouldn't quite be a Ranger, proper, yet, since it doesn't have the survival, favored enemy or favored terrain awesomeness in it; but it highlights how the pseudo-Ranger class might look if GW wanted to break it out much sooner.

Thoughts?

It's not that the cost for "off-class" abilities is higher (they cost the same), it's that every character has finite XP and things are expensive.

Plus, using abilities from three roles might require three implements, and as far as I know, the UI only allows you to switch between two implements right now (without digging around in the paperdoll screen to swap to the third one).

For the moment, it might be easier to simulate a low level ranger, or one of the archetypes that loses some or all of the ranger's spellcasting ability.

A low level ranger can be indistinguishable from a fighter. ;)

Rangers need some cool druid spells to cast or you are just an archer. Any chance we can get a hint at what spells will be made for rangers someday?

Yup! As I said in the "implementation priorities" post, all of the classes really just come down to how you roleplay them, even in the absence of their spiffy class abilities.

Or a rogue, if you like shortbows and stealth.
