Improvised Weapons; it's own group or must match a weapon group?

Rules Questions

Ok, I have a player who has an interesting and fun concept for a Brawler character.

The character is a chef. His motivation is to be the greatest of chefs. He's a rough&tumble kind of chef as well as willing to partake in adventures to collect the ingredients he desires around the world, from herbs and plants, to monsters and magic.

So he plans on using cutlery utensils as his weapons; cleavers, cutting knives, large forks. Anything that fits into the Close Weapon group from the kitchens pretty much. Thanks to Close Weapon Mastery he can do some decent damage with them, however, they are all obviously improvised weapons.

So say he used cutting knives or barbecue forks, weapons that fits best in the Close Weapon Group, would they count as improvised Close Weapons or do improvised weapons not have weapon group?

Much appreciated and thanks!

Nothing?

I would personally have him list his weapons and find the close weapon group equivalent. Some deadly kitchen utensils would have a decent approximation from the close wpn group. Just flavor them to be used in the kitchen. If there is no close approx, then its improvised.

I don't think there is an improvised wpn group.....

There is not, according to the Fighter Weapon Groups table.

And I wouldn't apply one to them. They're improvised for a reason; because they aren't real weapons. The Fighter Weapon Group is meant for items designed to be weapons. Cleavers, Cutting Knives, Forks, etc. aren't designed to be as a constantly usable, durable weapon like a Sword or Axe is.

But, if you feel like they should, then I would take Kjeldor's assessment, and assign them based upon what item type they are closest to, and go from there.

Here's a quick reference as to what all the Fighter Weapon Groups are.

Unlisted weapon grouping is completely at the discretion of the GM per the Weapon Training rules.

Grand Lodge

That would be neat, but only non-improvised weapons, are in Fighter weapon groups.

Well, most of them.

There are quite a few not in any group, yet.

Example: Dwarven Boulder Helmet.

I really want more improvised rules support haha. But im also the weirdo who lofes poison

Ok, I will have to go the route of placing improvised weapons individually matched to the weapon groups already in existence.

I had a player who was the ship's cook once. He used a cleaver as his weapon, and we treated it like a handaxe.
