Is there a trait kind of like Boon Companion?

Advice

Well?

You think they would have made one that increases your effective Druid level by 1 up to your Max Class level. This is only 1/3 as good as boon companion so it fits in nicely with how traits are supposed to be 1/2 strength of feats.

I have looked at most of the available books and I do not believe there is currently a trait that does this.

I will also mention that Boon Companion boosts your effective druid level by 4, so a trait that gives 1 level, would be 1/4 as good as a feat. A trait with 1/2 the strength of boon companion would give you +2 effective druid level.

Grand Lodge

If there was a Trait that gave +2 to the companion every eldritch heritage user would grab it for the familiar that you get at -2 level. Allows for on track level 7 Improved familiar shenanigans.

Also you would null out the feat. I would give up my usual reactionary for a trait for +2 Companion. Easy pick because I can suffer a -2 level as a mounted player and use the feat instead of taking boon companion.

You could house rule it but as far as a real trait like that it is a big no go.

Thought Boon companion was only 3 levels. Thats what I get from trusting my memory.

Anyway, I think a trait for 1 level increase would be acceptable. This would allow Animal Companion classes to make 1 level dips.

Boon companion is 3 levels. It makes you count as a 4th level druid if you take with at 4th level as Ranger which you can't as you don't get a feat a 4th level. I think that's why people think it gives you 4 levels, they forget that 4th level is 1 druid level when they grab the feat at 5th level.

Um... that's not how the feat works. It makes the abilities of your companion/familiar count as if you were 4 levels higher, to a maximum effective Druid level equal to your Character level. The boost can vary from 1-4, depending on how many Druid levels you lack.

Dark Archive

Boon Companion

Just link to it, rather than rely on memory.

As a homebrew trait, I'd tie it to a region or culture or something, such as allowing it as a Shoanti regional trait that ties to various creatures local to the Storval plateau, like aurochs and cinderpelts and eagles. +2 to class level up to character level to animal companion advancement, using regional creatures.

As a racial trait, it could link to animals traditionally associated with your race (Animal Archive has a list on the back cover, IIRC). As a faith trait, it could tie to the favored / associated animals of your religion.

It might also give a +1 to Handle Animal or Ride checks when dealing with the associated/favored animals of your religion / race / nation / culture.

There isn't such a trait as far as I know, but it's within reason to make one as a campaign trait. I would not let it stack with Boon Companion or similar feats, though.
