Help figuring out if Slashing Grace still applies.

Rules Questions

I want to build a two-weapon fighting, swashbuckling, sawtoothed sabreing, badass, but I need help with figuring out how some feats and rules interact at lower levels before all four of my needed feats come online.

Slashing Grace has to be applied to a specific weapon, and if I apply it to a sawtoothed Sabre, does it still work if I don't have exotic weapon proficiency with it. The reason I ask is because of this line: A sawtoothed sabre may be used as a Martial Weapon (in which case it functions as a longsword)

I'm trying to figure out what order I should get my feats, and I was putting slashing grace before exotic weapon prof but then I saw that and wasn't sure how it interacted. Does this mean it's a longsword so I don't get the benefits from Slashing Grace (and by proxy swashbuckler's finesse)?

Slashing Grace requires weapon focus (weapon) which in turn requires weapon proficiency (weapon), so that informs the order you must do it in.

Omg thank you. I feel so newbie having forgotten that XD

Keep in mind that dual-wielding for a Swashbuckler means giving up the bonus damage based on your level.

Also that it is not valid for slashing grace it only counts as light for twf.

A sawtoothed sabre may be used as a Martial Weapon (in which case it functions as a longsword), but if you have the feat Exotic Weapon Proficiency (sawtoothed sabre), you treat the weapon as if it were a light weapon for the purpose of two-weapon fightingthe sabre remains classified as a one-handed melee weapon for all other purposes

I read this as meaning it is penalized for TWF as a light weapon - not that it is treated as a light weapon in all respects, but only when you TWF with it.

Slashing Grace only applies to one-handed slashing weapons, which the sawtooth sabre is.

While weapon focus requires weapon proficiency, any character with marital proficiency is proficient with a sawtooth sabre, they simply do not count the off-hand weapon as light. This is similar to how all characters with martial proficiency are proficient with bastard swords and katanas, they just require two hands to wield either unless the character has the appropriate exotic weapon proficiency.

Skill progression would be:
weapon focus -> slashing grace -> exotic weapon proficiency -> two weapon fighting

If you don't take the exotic wp proficiency it functions as a Longsword.

Slashing Grace

Benefit: Choose one kind of one-handed slashing weapon (such as the longsword). When wielding your chosen weapon one-handed, you can treat it as a one-handed piercing melee weapon for all feats and class abilities that require such a weapon (such as a swashbuckler’s or a duelist’s precise strike) and you can add your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to that weapon’s damage. The weapon must be one appropriate for your size.

The sawtoothed saber would now count as a one-handed piercing weapon for swashbuckler abilities.

Quote:
Swashbuckler Weapon Training (Ex): At 5th level, a swashbuckler gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with one-handed or light piercing melee weapons.

Sawtooth saber + Slashing grace counts as a one-handed piercing melee weapon. Fighting with two weapons doesn't change this, as each one is still a one-handed weapon.

Quote:
Swashbuckler Finesse (Ex): At 1st level, a swashbuckler gains the benefits of the Weapon Finesse feat with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons...

Sawtooth saber + Slashing grace counts as a one-handed piercing melee weapon, so it works.

The only thing that is going to be penalized is your two-handed fighting attack rolls when if fighting with two sawtoothed sabers w/o the exotic weapon proficiency. As both are one-handed weapons (and not light) you'll be at -4/-4 to your attacks (so long as you have the two-weapon fighting feat).
