Can a player take monster feats?

Depends on your GM.

Yes, if you qualify. There's nothing prohibiting players, other than a DM not permitting the book.

Most of the following feats apply specifically to monsters, although some player characters might qualify for them (particularly Craft Construct).

Liberty's Edge

If you are trying to follow RAW, you cannot take a monster feat unless a class/ability/archetype/etcs specifically states that you can...alternately, the GM can allow it.

It's up to your GM. Some people assume just because it's written in a book players should be allowed to take it.

Personally I disallow it generally, but my players can ask me for specific feats and I may allow it depending on what it is.

As long as you qualify for them you should be able to take them. There is nothing prohibiting you from taking them other than your GM (as is his right :)).

In principle, yes you can.

Every feat has its own set of prerequisites. If you meet them, you meet them.

In Pathfinder Society, you aren't allowed to take monster feats. Unless you can. Some class choices, a Ranger Fighting Style comes to mind, do allow you to take certain monster feats.

You can probably have your familiar or your animal companion take monster feats where your character proper can't, but I don't know a lot about familiars or animal companions.

Kitsune characters, that turn into foxes, and druid characters, that turn into lots of things, might occupy a particular form a often enough to justify taking certain monster feats, as might certain character classes and races that grant natural attacks, like half-orcs, tengu, and alchemists. Certain monster feats to develop those might be appropriate and possible.

PFS DMs have a certain obligation to follow the rules as written, so take care your i's are dotted and your t's are crossed. Outside of PFS, just ask your DM about the character you have planned.

RAW and RAI nothing prevents a player from taking monster feats.

I don't think RAW means what you think it means.

Perhaps, but I don't think RedDTBone's comment is materially false. If you are talking about PFS Characters, in general Monster Feats are a no-no.

In any other campaign, GM trumps RAW regardless.
