People of the Stars, Androids the new best Barbarians?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Unless my reading comprehension fails me an Android can now rage cycle from level 1 with the Empathy feat. The down side being you need a 15 Charisma before racial mods which can suck but immunity to fatigue and exhaustion might be worth it. What does everyone else think of the trade off?

I don't have PotS, but don't Androids not gain morale bonuses? What does the Empathy feat do?

Unfortunately not. Androids can't get morale bonuses so they don't benefit from rage at all.

Wait, wait, lets hear this out- What is the empathy feat?

....does it allow morale bonuses on androids? And does it need 13 CHA or 17 CHA (it was vaguely unclear in your post)?

That seems a reasonable trade...but if going that much Charisma, a level of Oracle also gives rage cycling. And Rage cycling doesn't get really cool till 5th-6th level anyway.

In short, this seems a cool trick, but not necessarily a broken one (and definitely not one that makes you the 'best' Barbarian given the lack of synergy with the Android stat mods and Barbarians). Maybe go Bloodrager if you're gonna do this, as they have more use for Charisma. Or Urban Barbarian to take advantage of the Dex.

I don't have the book, but Empathy apparently removes the whole emotionless thing...which has disadvantages, but also makes Android Barbarians viable.

While I don't have my copy with me, I'm pretty sure the feat essentially removes all the effects of the Emotionless racial quality...
In essence, it allows Androids to benefit from Morale bonuses, but also removes their bonuses to certain saves from not really having emotions. It requires a CHA of 13+, after Racial modifiers.

Sorry for the lack of clarity, yeah Empathy requires 13 CHA (15 before the racial -2) or use level bonuses to pump up CHA. But it enables an Android to experience morale and fear effects and you lose the +4 vs. mid effects but keep the bonuses and immunities to all other things Androids normally get. I know you can get immunity to exhaustion and fatigue from dips but those slow your BAB and rage powers so this looked like a better option to me. While not the best Barbarians it seems to make them very capable ones now at least.

Sovereign Court

I dunno. Spending a feat to achieve what you can use a Cord of Stubborn Resolve for?

True, but if you want to break away from the Beast Totem path, this opens more viability for Spirit Totem.

Android Skald?

Viable Breakdance Robot?

The feat lets you get benefits from Rage in the first place. My only complaint looks to be that this shouldn't be a feat, but a baseline race option, since it seems to hurt as much as it helps, from what info we have here.

Isn't Android Barbarian the opposite of being a barbarian. It generally says you don't like civilization and though I don't have the book I would think as an android you would be all about civilization.

Not that kind of Android.

It enables them - but with 15 Charisma, that's tying up 7 points from your point buy (if you use that system) as well as preventing you from using Charisma as a dump stat. And it costs a feat. Androids also have Dex and Int as their 'plus' stats, which makes it point buy prohibitive pumping Strength to high levels.

Shrugs - it's cool that it can happen, but I don't think it makes them 'best'.

16-12-14-8-10-16 PB gets an android bloodrager enough charisma to cast all his spells, acceptable amounts of offensive power and doesn't eat into your skillpoints.

Might try that sometime.
