cool monk idea

Shadow Lodge

hey all i just had a cool idea for a new monk character and was wondering if anyone could give me advice on how to go about it, what i got so far is

Hungry ghost monk/ monk of the sacred mountain archtypes
and wanted him to take crusader's flurry to be able to flurry with well a greatsword get in on the Cloud type fighting lol

so not sure what race (pfs races only) or what kind of stats and lv progression or feats would make this character shine but not be min/max (all PFS legal stuff only though which means 20 pointbuy) thanks all for the help in advance ^^

Instead of a Monk/Cleric, I'd go with a Sacred Fist Warpriest. They get Flurry of Blows, Fervor, Warpriest Spells, an AC bonus, bonus style feats, Evasion for Fortitude, and Channel Energy. For the first time, you can qualify for Crusader's Flurry without multiclassing.

Shadow Lodge

wow really? that sounds awsome lol i have got to get that advance class guide soon im missing out on a lot it seems, i hope Archive of nethys puts it up soon lol

Shadow Lodge

still even with that until i get the advance class guide, im still wondering how to do this build, espcially with the hungry ghost monk and the monk of the sacred mountain archetypes im guessing at first lv going crusader cleric would be the best bet then just monk afterword or is there a better way to go about it?

Scarab Sages

The bonus feat from Crusader allows you to bypass class requirements, but not BAB requirements. You can't use the bonus feat for weapon focus if you take cleric at one RAW. It's best to go monk 2, and then take Cleric at 3 to legally take weapon focus with the bonus feat, and crusader's flurry with your level 3 feat.

As I "ban" the war priest - let's go with your original option ....
Take cleric crusader 1 - hungry monk of the mountain x
The god I would take is Shinzo - a katana is way better than a great sword - and repose give amazing no save debuff!
Or, take gorum, For enlarge person as spell lvl 1.
Take human or dwarf. The later for amAIng saves and stats, human for skills and a feat .
Also aasimar is nice.

If using low stat point buy- go guided hand for wisdom to hits. This is also monk tank/ defends style. Otherwise go str .

Feats : human:
Lvl1 Monk 1 : IMP unarmed , imp grapple, punishing kick (all free) - dodge
Lvl 2 Cleric 1 crusader : weapon focus (free) ,
Lvl3 Monk 2: toughness , feat- crusader flurry
Lvl 5:power attack
Lvl7: imp. Trip, crane style or snake style
Lvl 9: grt grapple
Lvl 11: spring art and grt trip
Lvl13,15 rapid grapple and imp crit

Shadow Lodge

dang that stinks, lol hmm guess it would be worth it to go two lvs of monk then go with the crusader for a lv then i'd get toughness at lv 2 instead of 3rd lv so sounds better lol i was orignally thinking half-orc for the race but beside that not sure if theres a better race for this idea, sort of tired of playing human characters and it still needs to be the standard pfs races

Shadow Lodge

hmm also quick question, as a lv1 cleric can i only use lv 1 wands or do i need to be the right lv for the spell on the wand (without useing, use magic device)

Scarab Sages

You can use wands of any level with cleric 1. Spell Trigger item just need you to have the spell on your list. You do not have to be able to actually cast the spell.

Silver Crusade

Can you add Sohei to the mix? They get proficiency with greatswords and you can take Weapon Training in the appropriate weapon group to be able to flurry with the greatsword. That should just about solve all of your problems.

Shadow Lodge

ok thats awsome lol woot

Scarab Sages

Soheis cant take weapon training in heavy blades. However, you could use a Sansetsukon from level 1 and it's almost as good as a great sword, or you could take weapon training in polearms to have a big two hand reach weapon.

Shadow Lodge

yeah i was thinking of the Sansetsukon would be a good choice until lv3 then go greatsword lol

I would go with Lore Warder Fighter 1 (gives weapon proficiency and weapon focus), Separatist of Zursvaater (travel domain plus one other) then monk X.

Travel domain gives +10 movement, a domain spell that grants another +10 movement and the ability to ignore difficult terrain. Now you are the shock troop, getting to the enemy in a single movement.

If lore warden - than a warden 4 ( sp feat, expertise, cmb/cmd boost feats )
Than go cleric 1 shiziru for repose and karana, than focus on monk....
It will have less monk goodies for more damage, tone of feats and more knowledges.

Hmm, there is a lot to be said for Monk (Hungry Ghost/Qinggong) / /Warpriest (Sacred Fist) *Shizuru for the repose domain*.

You get to flurry at your full BaB (so you're basically an unarmored fighter with spells), 2x wis to AC (2 different sources, one is Ex with dodge bonuses and the other is Su with deflection bonuses).

Ack! You lose your katana proficiency, so you'll have to drop a feat on EWP (Katana).

Ah well, a lot to like.

Shadow Lodge

dang i hope i can read the Advance class guide soon, sounds like there is a ton of awesome stuff in there lol

Shadow Lodge

hmm ok heres what i got so far
Diety = that dragon-slayer empryeal lord
Lv 1 monk (hungry Sacred mountain)/ bonus feat= dodge
Lv 2 monk = bonus feat= combat reflexes
lv 3 Cleric (crusader) =pick up weapon focus greatsword and crusaders flurry
lv 4+ monk

besides the lv 3 feat and bonus feats i have no idea what would be good feats or race or stats for this guy, got to be pfs legal though just for good measure lol
