Harrow deck or deluxe, what's the difference?

Product Discussion

Well i've developped a hype to get myself a harrow deck, but have come across a little problem..two actually. One being that the normal one is not available, another being that the deluxe version is both pricy and it's description doesn't say anything at all about what's deluxe about it.
In fact it doesn't say what is in the deluxe version at all besides uglier cards.

I'm left with no choice but to ask questions, and not necessarily nice ones:
What is there with the deluxe harow deck? All I've managed to learn is different size and back picture..uglier one too. Is that's what we're charged more for? Uglier, larger cards and nothing else? are there any books added at least like to the normal deck or are we indeed supposed to pay more to get less? Or maybe there's something else in the pack that's not with the normal deck?

And is the normal harrow deck practcally gone for good? What is that backorder thing? I can spend money and wait until *MAYBE* it gets rereleased..or not rereleased and I've just give paizo money for nothing?

The deluxe deck is the new release of the Harrow deck. As far as I know, Paizo has no plans at all to to reprint and re-release the original deck.

The new deluxe deck has larger cards (roughly the size of Tarot cards), and with card backs that look like regular card backs.

The old deck had a cartoon of a Varisian fortune teller with the "Harrow" logo on the backs. I thought the old backs really broke the verisimilitude of using them as an in-game divination tool.

The old deck is also sold out. There were enough complaints about the old deck that i doubt Paizo would be interested in reprinting them.

If anyone wants to buy my old copy of the original Harrow Deck they're welcome to it. When I saw the backs, I had to restrain myself from tossing it into the trash.

If it doesn't involve horrid shipping issuels (especially over an ocean) I might just get tempted to that.

So is there anything in the "deluxe" deck besides the cards? Normal deck mentions some books or booklets.

The deluxe harrow deck does come with a little booklet telling you about each card and giving you suggestions on how to use it. I personally love my Deluxe Harrow Deck, but I don't think it's for everyone. I just love the Harrow-based archetypes and such in the Harrow Handbook, so that was more than enough to convince me to buy it, to use those options in PFS games.

I think I read a review or two saying that the Deluxe cards were very flimsy...more akin to regular paper than a plating card.

I don't think they're flimsy at all... they feel like cards should feel to me.

That's pretty much how I felt.

The deluxe set is far superior in my opinion.

Anyone who wants to buy my barely-used original Harrow set, please let me know. I think we could work something out!

The new cards are larger and have new art (I think it's better, but there you go - art is art). There's a comparable booklet, but the extra price is due to the non standard, larger size.

The big difference is the card back - I was one of the vocal complainants when the first deck came out and buying the deluxe set was a bargain to me, even though I had the original. The first design really detracted from it as a handout in my opinion.

I suspect listing it as a back order is an error. It should be labelled out of print (and be non-orderable). However, I'd point out that paizo don't charge you for back orders or preorders until they ship, so you won't be giving them any money immediately if you place a back order. (There might be a temporary hold of funds on your credit card to check that side of things, but it will only last a few days).

I personally won't be buying the deluxe deck. Although I have the non-deluxe deck, the back art doesn't worry me too much as I don't actually like the actual card art (Kyle Hunter's art just doesn't grab me). I wish the deluxe deck had art by someone else, but it was understandable when it didn't.

Sigh...I wish I had any sort of artistic talent, I would just make a set up myself.
