I am looking for 4-6 players for the Kingmaker Adventure Path. I have several years of experience playing on Roll20 and IRC, as well as free-form RP on various other PbP forums, and the slower pace of PbP is far more in keeping with my schedule these days. Usually I can post several times per day, but I rarely have the several consecutive hours needed for a proper session, either around a table or via a virtual tabletop.

This campaign will have a few modifications to it, but those will mostly be in the later portions of the adventure path, and I want to focus on just making it to the end of the first book without losing anybody. Without further ado:

On the night of the winter solstice just over ten years ago, the entire royal family of Brevoy mysteriously vanished. With not a single member of House Rogarvia to be found anywhere, House Surtova has seized the Dragonscale Throne and placed its scion, Noleski Surtova, on the throne as Regent of Brevoy. Not all of Brevoy look kindly on the Surtovas, as House Rogarvia forged Brevoy from the warring nations of Issia and Rostland some two hundred years ago, and many Rostlanders resent rule by the Issian Surtovas.

In the far south of Brevoy, in the lands once directly administered by House Rogarvia, lies the 'free city' of Restov. Though a part of Brevoy and owing taxes to the crown, Restov has historically been granted a great deal of freedom to enact its own laws, maintain its own military, and manage the surrounding lands. In the absence of House Rogarvia, the Swordlords of Brevoy, under the leadership of Lord-Mayor Ioseph Sellemius, have begun exerting ever greater influence over the surrounding lands in a blatant attempt to exert control over all of southern Rostland.

Now, ten years since the mysterious Vanishing, the Surtovas still lack enough support amongst the noble houses of Brevoy to have Noleski formally crowned king, and his continued regency has emboldened the Swordlords even further. Looking to the south and seeing a vast wilderness which was once a fiefdom of Rostland, the Swordlords have chartered several expeditions to explore these Stolen Lands, deal with the brigands and monsters now living there, and create a buffer zone between Brevoy and the chaotic River Kingdoms which lie beyond the Stolen Lands.

You have received one of the charters being distributed by the Swordlords to intrepid adventurers, and have journeyed to the old border fort described in the charter. Abandoned many decades ago, the fort is presently the home of an entrepreneurial couple who have converted it into a trading post, trading supplies from Restov for furs and other goods the local hunters acquire from the wilderness to the south.

Charter of Exploration:
Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been granted
by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and
authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the
Dragonscale Throne, the right of exploration and travel within the
wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration should be
limited to an area up to fifty miles south of the Brevic border and
no further than fifty miles west and twenty miles east of the former
border fort now known as Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of this
charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful
behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry
remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this
24th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov
and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of
the Dragonscale Throne.

Character Creation

Permitted Sourcebooks: Paizo hardbacks and the Kingmaker Player's Guide only. Right now, that's everything in the PRD plus Inner Sea Gods and the Advanced Class Guide.

Ability Scores: 20 point buy, no stat lower than 8 before racial adjustments.

Race: All core races are permitted. You may use alternate racial traits described in the Advanced Race Guide, but no Featured/Uncommon races.

Class: All non-Eastern classes allowed, maximum of one archetype.

Hit Points: Max for first level, half your hit die plus one for each level after first. (For a Fighter with 10 Constitution, this would be 10 hp at level 1, and 6 additional hp each level.)

Equipment: All characters start the game with 150gp to purchase starting equipment.

Alignment: No evil characters.

Traits: Please select two traits, one of which must be a campaign trait from the Kingmaker Player's Guide. No drawbacks for a third trait.

Description: Keep this in third person perspective and try to avoid using relative terms. Remember, to a kobold, the standards of beauty are vastly different, and your character, however comely in the estimation of most humans, may appear quite ugly and undesirable.

Background: Key points this should cover include, but are not limited to the following.

  • How did the character become trained in their current class/profession?
  • Why did the character choose to become an adventurer?
  • What brought the character to Restov?
  • Why did the character accept the Swordlords' charter?

Desired Kingdom Role: Somewhat of a long-term thing, since it could take a couple months or more to get through the first book, but what is your first and second choice for your character's position in the kingdom the party will eventually create?

Roleplay Example: Please include a brief example of roleplaying, based upon your character receiving his/her charter from Lord-Mayor Ioseph Sellemius or one of the Swordlords of Restov, such as Lady Jamandi Aldori.

Edit: I'll keep recruitment open until Friday at noon PDT and make my decision on who to include at that point.

Interested, will throw something together tonight or tomorrow morning.

This is a character I made for a Kingmaker game that the GM just up and vanished on. I'll make the necessary changes later. He'd probably be best as Marshal or Warden.

halfling summoner (master summoner)
role marshal, magister

all other info is in this alias. tell me if you want more information in any area.

Grand Lodge

Dot, will put together a character in the next day or two. Probably a swashbuckler or charismatic dex based fighter.

Hey there, Inneliese! Thanks for biting the bullet and making another Kingmaker. It looks to be really popular!

Desired Kingmaker Roles: Ary would best serve as a Warden, General or Marshal. With the possibility of those being taken, due to other characters... we'll see!

Personality:
Ary is self-assured, and while aware of her shortcomings, she follows the path of sacrifice and valor, as would be expected of her as a worshipper of Iomedae. She seeks to find the reason for conflict before stepping into it, but won't hesitate to defend any she perceives as innocent, even risking herself to do so. Most importantly, she recognizes that those who are capable of sin are also capable of regret, and of seeking forgiveness.
Ary is a guardian first and foremost. Sure, she has a shiny longsword to hit enemies with, but her real goal is to protect her friends and allies in combat. She'll be using a sword and shield in combat, along with a specific trait to make her shield something special to start.

Background:
Ary Bishop was born to a tiny homestead amongst the stolen kingdoms, she grew to the age of 8 learning how to hunt alongside her father, and taming the land for the various crops that her family could manage.
As was the case with dozens of other families, one day bandits decided it was time to take advantage of the local populace. Ary's father set her upon their only horse and ushered her away before the thieves could close in, allowing her to ride to safety, along the route she had learned to follow for the sake of trade. This resulted in her survival, though she never learned what became of her parents.
Now ostensibly an orphan, Ary tried to raise herself on the streets, but always managed to make it to listen to the stories told by the prophet on the corner, not a doomsday crier, but instead a man well-versed in the religious stories, especially of the good and noble gods. Ary was fascinated by the Eleven Miraculous Acts of Iomedae. Not only had Iomedae stood against impossible odds, but she had thrived against them.

The story of the true hero's rise to greatness flavored everything that Ary did from then on, seeking to become a hero of the common people so that one day she too could claim greatness. After hearing the final story of Iomedae, she approached the prophet and was directed to the nearest church where she trained to hopefully one day become a paladin.

Background Questions:
Ary was trained to hunt by her father, and learned to live off of the humans surrounding her, prior to joining the church once she was forced out of her home. She learned swordplay, and how to use a shield and armor from the church of Iomedae.

The reason Ary has become an adventurer is a simple response: She was inspired by the lady Iomedae. Having regretted and loathed herself for fleeing her home, Ary found solace in the story of Iomedae, and promised herself she would never allow fear to rule her again.

Ary was on her way to the Worldwound when something in her told her that it was best that she turn aside; her abilities would be better used, and better tested elsewhere. She followed her intuition to Restov's.

Ary actually didn't receive a charter from the Swordlords, but instead answered what she hopes to be a call from her divine patron to lead her to where she is best needed to serve.

Appearance:
Ary is large amongst the human population, coming in at six feet, and weighing in at 180 pounds. She has bright blonde hair and deep brown eyes. At the age of nineteen, she's still youthful enough to carry her naivete with her. She carries a longsword and wields a small oddly-green-tinged steel shield on the arm opposite. Iomedae's crest is visible on the shield, with the light refracted by the sword in the symbol growing outwards into raised spikes. She dresses in studded leather which allows her to retain much of her mobility in the wilds. Her horse, a palomino daughter of her father's horse is never far away, and carry's much of her supplies, including several extra water skins, her bedding, as well as her rope and tent. She maintains several trail rations, and a mapmaker's kit in her backpack and belt pouches. While she typically keeps the long sword sheathed at her side, the sword never leaves her arm unless she is entirely at rest.

Roleplay Sample:
Ary sat on the step third removed from the temple's open doorway, surrounded by sunlight and marble, her shield resting before her, the symbol of her faith and her training. She held her sword in her hands, turning it over and over, a glimmer of what appeared to be fear shone in her eyes as she stared blankly into the sky ahead.

The Worldwound. That's... what she signed up for, wasn't it? To give her life in the name of something amazing.. to save the world, no matter the cost. So... why was she so afraid? She chewed her lip, and redirected her gaze from the sky, staring into the holy symbol embossed on her shield. Why did it feel so... wrong? What made her think she was better?

A chill wind blew by, causing Ary to shiver. A paladin wouldn't know this fear. They would know beyond a shadow of a doubt that where they were going was where they were meant to be. They would be able to quiet the writhing in their stomach, assuring themselves that they would be at Iomedae's side at worst, and would be cleansing the world of evil at best. But she was no paladin.

Not for the first time, Ary wondered if her heroine had known fear. If her goddess had worried for her life on all of those occasions that she had fought with all of her might to protect, to save others, to destroy evil. When she fought the gargoyle, had she been afraid of dying? The vampire lord?

Ary sheathed her sword and averted her gaze from the symbol, was this what she'd become? She shook her head, wrenching her eyes shut, as she slid her sword back into its sheath. She stood with a sigh and swallowed hard. "I will suffer death before dishonor," she said as if speaking a mantra, though her words were shaken, as she repeated it twice more, it grew stronger. She lifted her shield and strapped it to her arm, descending the stairs, her face set.

-fast forward-

As the skiff made its way downriver towards the Worldwound, Ary tossed and turned upon her bedroll. A nightmare, perhaps... but an active dream nevertheless. Sweat poured from her body as she sat bolt upright, and struggled against her blanket, which she'd become entwined in. A panicked look on her face as she swept her gaze around the forested surroundings. Where was she? On the skiff. Good. Relief, though limited, passed into her face.

The deep gray of the sky that hearkened the coming dawn through a wall of clouds was all that greeted her as she rose, and for the third time in as many days, moved to her horse to brush its coat. "The third time I've had that same dream, Libi. If we go to the Worldwound... I will die. I'll accomplish nothing, and I'll have thrown my life away." She shook her head, as she ran her free hand along the horse's flank. "I don't think the lady would wish for me to go there and through my life away... would she?" As if on cue, the horse huffed it's response, shaking its head.

"No, Libi... you don't understand. I'm not afraid of dying. I'm afraid of wasting my life. Surely there's something more for me than that. More for you. The River Kingdoms. We'll be there tomorrow. That's something worth living for, right? Home? We can help to retake the land. To bring valor back, to push that evil from the world... surely that's something?" Her eyes pleaded with the horse, who only stared back. She sighed heavily, and looked back to her shield.

After a moment, she spoke again, perhaps to the wind. "I will learn the weight of my sword. Without my heart to guide it, it is worthless—my strength is not in my sword, but in my heart. If I lose my sword, I have lost a tool. If I betray my heart, I have died. I know in my heart, that I'm meant for more, Libi. There are others, better suited to dealing with the Worldwound. Iomedae has sent us here, for this. I'm sure of it."

Dotted. I'll be submitting a human fighter (swordlord archetype) who represents one of the off-shoots of a minor branch of a minor noble house. Knowing that without actions him and his house are destined to nothingness, he takes his chance at achieving fortune and glory.

Will build him over the next couple of days and post him when he's all ready :)

Dot! I'm thinking blood rager(If I'm understanding that advanced class guide classes are allowed). Or barbarian.

Very interested. Thinking a magus sword scion... I'll get a submission together.

Well, last kick at the can for this character... I developed him for Kingmaker awhile back, but he's been passed over a few times now. In any event, the application is pretty complete at this point.

I also have an Enchanter rigged for diplomacy as a Grand Diplomat if this character is not to your liking.

Description:
Lucius is quite a and handsome looking young man. His hair is a tussled dirty blond, and his eyes are a pale grayish blue due to his mother's Ulfen descent. Being somewhat vain in nature, Lucius takes care of his appearance, keeping his face closely shaved and his stylish clothing clean. Lucius is extremely athletic, possessing a tall, lean and muscular physique. His expression is often mischievous, but at the same time calculating and shrewd.

Physical Traits
Height: 6'1
Weight: 172 lbs
Hair: Sandy Blond
Eyes: Brown

Personality:
Lucius is quite intelligent and extremely athletic, and sometimes overly cocky. He tends to believe in himself, sometimes beyond his ability. This extreme overconfidence tends to grate on people, though his easy-going disposition and sense of humor leaves him not without his charm.

Background:
Lucius grew up in Restov, the youngest son of Theodric Baradain, a loyal soldier in the employment of the Lebeda household. Lucius grew up in Silverhall with this parents, and led a fairly simply childhood. Baron Lebeda recognized the intelligence and talents of the young Baradain boy, and paid for Lucius to be trained in the sword and the art of war in Restov. His natural gifts apparent to his masters, Lucius excelled in his study of engineering and his training with the blade.

When he was sixteen and finished his studies, he came home and found employment serving under his father for the Lebeda household. By this time, Baron Lebeda had died, and Dame Sarrona Lebeda was regent while the Baron's eldest son Lander was still a minor. Lucius being of an age with Lander became fast friends with the future Baron, and found himself spending time on Royal Hunting expeditions with Lander, and other such privileged activities.

Worried that his boy might be getting soft by spending too much time in the court and gaining considerably more influence than himself, Theodric volunteered Lucius for the assignment of traveling to the River Kingdoms to investigate issues with banditry on behalf of the Baradain household. Though unhappy at the prospect of leaving his friends and family, Lucius begrudgingly decided to take on the task.

Desired Kingdom Role:
Lucius would make an excellent General, and future skill points will go towards any skill that helps develop him in the art of war such as Profession Soldier.

RP Writing Sample:
As his eyes scanned over the document, an unmistakable scowl began to form on the brow of young Lucius. Glancing up from the document to look his gruff middle-aged father Theodric square in the eyes, Lucius suspiciously inquired "Just why exactly are you showing me this? Why should I care about bandit activity in the River Kingdoms?"

With a sour, yet bemused demeanor, Theodric responded curtly to his cocksure eldest boy "Because you’re going on expedition Lucius; Lady Lebeda has asked for volunteers to put an end to the banditry bordering her lands and harassing trade to the west." With a shrug, Theodric smiled and added "This is good for you Lucius, you need to get some field experience."

Growing ever more incredulous by the minute, Lucius wave the document about as he retorted "Field experience? This is a sheriff’s work father; I didn’t go to study in Restov to skulk about in the woods hunting for petty thieves!"

Unmoved and intransigent in his position, Theodric flatly stated "You have much to learn Lucius, and this kind of experience can tell you much about the Kingdom." Walking across the room to the wait table, Theodric poured himself a cup of wine before smugly addressing his son once more "In any event, there be no use in arguing with me; I’ve already put your name forth to Dame Serona, so you’re going lest you wish to disappoint her. You leave in two days."

Though he was now seething with anger, Lucius controlled his emotion as he coolly countered his father "Lander and I were supposed to be on a hunting expedition in two days…"

"Aye, you were Lucius, but I guess that will have to wait." Without any further discussion, Theodric got up and left the room, but not before adding "Better get packing son."

Standing somewhat dumbfounded, Lucius shook his head as he considered the exchange that just took place. After a few moments, Lucius began to resign himself to his fate; indeed he couldn’t very well say no to Dame Sarona Lebeda, and his father knew that.

So, it's off to the River Kingdoms is it? Well then, time to go make a name for myself…

With a slight bow, hand over heart, the hooded horseman introduces himself, "Aldarion, at your service."

...

I present Aldarion for your consideration. Your emphasis on roleplaying makes me particularly interested in this game. I'll try to whip up the requested information and roleplaying sample asap, as well as tidy up my stats to fit your requirements. In the meantime, feel free to refer to my previous PbP campaigns, via this profile, for samples of my roleplaying of Aldarion. Speaking of which, I should mention that I've played this AP via PbP a few times before, though none have lasted very long. No worries about me revealing anything though, as I loathe metagaming.

RP sample:
Malak walks into the office quite slowly. Looking around but not really at anything, as if he were in a daze.

Are you here for the charter then? Sirrah? Excuse me, Sirrah!

The Lord-Mayor had to raise his voice to get to Malak's attention.

Oh, uh, yeah. That's righ'

Malak walked up and took the piece of paper from Sellemius. He looked around somewhat awkwardly, unsure of what to do.

Um, whaddo I do now?

Sellemius looked at the paper You get ready to go to... what was your name, young man?

Malak...

Malak, you get ready to go to... the Greenbelt it looks like. Now please excuse me.

Malak walked outside. Greenbelt. Kill bandits, make maps, make money. Right. Right.... They're probably going to establish another country after that, why else would Surtova care, but where does that leave me? Soon as they have a government they'll kick me to the curb and I'm back to oddjobs again. I suppose I can take advantage of the situation to put myself into the operations of the government, then they can't get rid of me. But then what do I do?

Malak thought all the way to the stables where he kept the horse given him by the Surtovas. It wasn't even wartrained, what was Malak supposed to do with it? Like always he would just have to survive what people kept expecting to kill him and think about happiness later.

When you say "non-Eastern", do you mean Monks aren't allowed either?

Submitted for your approval: Paza, a Feral Child Druid.

Her preferred role in a Kingdom would probably be its Archdruid (establishing dominance in her territory).
Second choice would be to serve as a scout and defender (securing the borders of the aforementioned territory) in charge of patrols. She would be deeply invested in training mounts and various support animals for her subordinates, and training them to work with the wilderness.

RP sample:

The Lord Mayor was growing irritated. The wretched girl had slunk into his office like a dog that had been whipped too often, and was pacing to and fro at the back of his office, well out of reach and not meeting his eyes. Barefoot, no less, and tracking dirt into his priceless carpet!

"Miss, do you or do you not intend to take the charter?" he snapped at her.

Now she met his eyes, and the feral look in them almost made the Lord Mayor flinch. "Well," he said in a more measured tone of voice. "Do you or don't you? I am rather busy, so if you -- wait, please calm down! I'm sure I can -- I didn't mean to offend--!"

The Lord Mayor's voice rose to a squeak and he threw up his hands as the strange girl -- 'An assassin?!' -- whirled her sling overhead and launched the leaden bullet right at him! He squeezed his eyes shut -- and heard the bullet whizz right past his ear. Something behind him squeaked, there was a crack of bone... and a dull thump. Amazed to be alive, Ioseph Sellemius opened his eyes and looked around. Lying behind his chair was a large, very dead rat, its neck broken by the girl's sling-bullet. The wretched beast must have crawled up onto his chair...!

Turning back to face his visitor, the Lord Mayor flinched again to find her standing right in front of him, her eyes boring into his as she leaned across the desk to inspect him.
"Will go," she said, the words leaving her almost explosively, a burst of communication followed by silence. She had quite a nice voice for all that. "Will go," she said again. "Will take charter. I will take the charter. Yes?"

"Yes," the Lord Mayor said. "Um. Good. Thank you."

He handed over the paper, and the girl turned it round and round in her hands, even turning it upside down as she stared at it. Just when Ioseph Sellenius thought she might be illiterate, she turned it the right way up and stared intently at the writing, as if to pull the words off the page and into her brain.

"Yes," she said. "Yes. Good." She flicked a look at him. "Thank you. There is a hole in your... wall. Rats can get in there. Thank you. Goodbye, now."

She turned around and slunk out of his office, head lowered and back stiff as if she expected to be attacked at any moment. Now the Lord Mayor could see her shoes; a pair of boots, dangling over her shoulder by their laces. He sat staring at the footprints the girl had left on his carpet for at least five minutes after she had left before he shook himself back to awareness.

"Peculiar," he muttered. "Most peculiar." And the odd thing was, she had looked hauntingly familiar...

52 yrs old, 3'6", 41 lb, brown hair, green eyes, tanned skin

Appearance: body build is average, standard clothes and gear appear slightly above average, entertaining
clothes and gear are flashy but functional

Personality: usually patient and relaxed, except when performing, when he comes alive and border line

Background:

One of many sons of a poor family in Restov, Barty demonstrated a knack for languages
and public performances at an early age, and was encouraged to join a local traveling acting troupe in an
effort to ease the burdens on his family and keep him out of trouble. Working his way up the ranks within
the group, he quickly picked up the arts of subtle petty theft working the crowds as a crier and later as
a performer. He enjoys this life, and has spent the last several decades traveling around the southern
fringes of Brevoy and the Restov area. While Barty and the troupe successfully built a tidy nest egg for themselves, they
deliberately avoided anything more than the occasional petty theft to keep people from getting concerned
about or noticing their activity on the side.
Recently, however, a new man took charge of the troupe and has been encouraging ever larger thefts
and ripoffs, something that a few of the long time performers of the troupe, Barty included, have become
increasingly worried about as rumors are starting to spread and folks are starting to get skittish about
having the troupe around. Seeing a poster for recruitment for adventurers to go into the Stolen Lands,
Barty took advantage of the opportunity to break away from his old friends cleanly. Taking his nest egg
and reporting to the recruiter, he now holds a charter in is hand and is looking for a way to Oleg's to
start a new chapter of his life.

probable roles: diplomat, spymaster, councilor, leader

rp:
Having chose his attire for this meeting carefully, the well dressed, with just a hint of flashy, gnome stood before the Lord-Mayor. The interview, while not overly long, had been more uncomfortable than Barty had hoped for, as the Lord-Mayor had tried several times to probe him about the activities of the acting troupe he had recently left. Barty, however, with his usual grace, had been able to keep the conversation focused mostly on his family ties to Restov and his abilities as a performer. Finally, the Lord-Mayor nodded to his deputy, who handed the dapper gnome a charter for exploration that Barty hoped would be his ticket to a new life.

Looking forward to reading all the great entries that people post and hope to finally get to play this AP.

Inneliese, a quick but important question, what minimum post rate do you expect from the players? Once a day? More frequent, or less? Thanks.

I should have everything completed by Tuesday... will post again then.

Interested. I'll post a concept later.

DM Quoth - I mean ninja and samurai. Unlike those two classes, monks have spread through Avistan alongside faith in Irori.

Aldarion the Sage - I'm looking for at least once per day. The more often everyone can post, however, the more momentum we can build to hopefully keep this campaign going long term and perhaps even finish it some day. (At one post per player per day, it could take a few years to finish.)

This alias was made for a Kingmaker game, same as Malak. All the crunch is on the profile. I think she'd do well as a Marshal, but could also serve as a Councillor or High Priest.

Question: Will you allow professions and crafting? If not, then I can edit her as needed.

Sample RP:

Quellina swept a sweat-soaked bang from her forehead, trying to breathe evenly. It was an unseasonably wam day, and the windows were closed in the Lord-Mayor's private chambers. The Mayor himself, Ioseph Sellemius, seemed not to notice, reclining back in his chair.
"So, Ms. Esstanov, it seems you've ingratiated yourself quite well to the local watch. In fact, your exploits in chasing that jewel thief last week are the talk of the town's criers," the man said, smiling faintly at her.
"I'm flatterered, Lord-Mayor, sir. But I sought only to do a job, and do it right," she replied.
"Yes, and you do indeed, Ms. Esstanov. In fact, I'd like to offer you a job, of sorts. The local Swordlords, led by Ms. Jamandi Aldori, are seeking able bodies to head an expedition into the Greenbelt, near the River Kingdoms. I am authorized to extend an invitation to join the charter," and he pulled a paper from a desk drawer with a flourish.
Quellina's eyes narrowed, and she jolted forward in her chair. "The Kingdoms? As wretched a hive of scum and villainy as any!" She composed herself quickly, settling back down in her seat. "What is the purpose of this expedition, Lord-Mayor, if I may ask?"
Iospeh noticed her anger with a slight smirk. "The main objective is settlement, Ms. Esstanov. But there is a, if you will, secondary objective. You see, the Greenbelt is harsh, but certain people do survive and even thrive within it. He leaned forward slightly across the table, and said one word:
"Bandits."
Quellina opened her mouth to continue, but Ioseph cut her off with a raised hand and then continued in a lower voice. "Now Ms. Esstanov, you know what has not been the talk of the criers? How you caught that thief by hamstringing her with an arrow, and then put another through her forearm. For good measure,I assume? He watched as a panic began to show on her features. "Yes, a friend in the watch passed that on."
He sipped his tea, and then continued, "Yes, Ms. Esstanov, I think that with your skills - and your temperament - you would appreciate such an opportunity, hmm?"
Quellina was silent for a moment, and then she leaned forward to him.
"Immensely, Lord-Mayor. Now, where do I sign?

dotting for kingmaker obessession

Quellina Esstanov - There most certainly will be plenty of downtime in this campaign. I expect about a year's worth of downtime in between books one and two of the AP, and after book one, everything is pretty much at whatever pace the party decides. So yes, plenty of time for crafting (magical and mundane), professions, and even buildings/organizations from Ultimate Campaign. After all, it only takes one week each month to attend to all your duties as a kingdom leader.

Inneliese, I'm working on my background right now, but how much are you expecting from us? I'm afraid that I'm writing a short essay on a fictional character right now and I do not want to burden you with my mind's ramblings! *grins*

And are you okay with me using non-paizo art for my character? I found a wonderful image that 'screams' Lothar to me. This is said image.

Lothar is a fighter with the swordlord archetype, but differs from the typical Brevoyan fighter who aspires to become a member of the illustrious Aldori swordlords.

Is he a foppish nobleman with a secret identity as a masked protector of oppressed nobility from murderous mob rule?

Sadly, the answer is no. Nor does he have any skill in riding a horse, using a whip or running a hacienda. Such a shame.

That's a shame. I've looked at that PrC, it's got some nice perks! ^^

I want to submit my half orc fighter
Think of him as a defender and a protector that hits like a dump truck!

Name is Wreck
Not bright or smart. But kind. Grew up in the city. School was hard, but he made it through. He finally joined the guard where he exiled. Is sent to the stolen lands as part of group and to make sure they complete their mission

Lothar von Juningar - I'm expecting a paragraph of description, two paragraphs of background, and a roleplay sample that represents 1-3 average RP posts. You're certainly allowed to submit more than that, but if it gets to be more than a page, you might want to include a summary.

As for non-Paizo art, of course. Having artwork is always a benefit for giving other players a strong mental image, and there's no reason it should be limited to just Paizo art, since that would mean nobody could draw their own character if artistically inclined!

DM Inneliese -- was my RP sample sufficient, or would you like more?

I don't know about Inneliese, but I really enjoyed reading your RP sample, Paza. :)

TLDR Sample Roleplay:
Ary was sent to the Worldwound, but from the moment she was commissioned, she was filled with doubt about going there. On her way downriver towards the wound, she decided that her doubts were a warning, and that she should heed them, rather than following the path before her blindly. She didn't personally receive a charter (unless the DM wants her to, in which case, she could have applied before being selected by her clergy), and instead simply sought to aid others in -their- path to claim the land.

Edit: If you'd prefer me to provide a distinct sample RP of her receiving a commission, I can do that as well. I just prefer, as a player, to not handle NPCs :)

Thank you very much! ^^

I think it's interesting how the core events of Malak and Paza's background is pretty much the same but their personalities went completely different directions.

Oh? -- *reads* -- Ha, yes. ^^ It differs in who picked them up and why, of course. And their reasons for accepting the charter.

FIGHTER:
Bonus Feat

Background:

Lothar is the third son of Konrad von Juningar, a merchant from the River Kingdoms who moved to the shores of Lake Reykal to give his children a safe home. Knowing that his two older brothers would inherit and split their father’s business, Lothar had to find another craft. His would be the way of the sword.
Lothar’s teenage years consisted of one beating after the other as his father enrolled him in one of Brevoy’s many sword schools. Gaross, the oldest of his teachers, once told him that ‘one doesn’t know how much he wants to succeed until he has been beaten, again and again’. The harsh reality that followed these words of wisdom thinned down the class of fifteen to eight individuals over the course of the next six months. The next lesson came during the second part of his first year as a student. The boys were only allowed to use ‘peasant’ weaponry: spears, clubs and improvised farmer’s implements such as the scythe. For six months they faced their experienced mentors, enduring their greatest humility when one teacher took out all eight boys, armed with training spears and clubs, all by himself. It taught him a sense of responsibility when wielding a sword. The sword isn’t just a weapon, but it is also a shield for one’s community.
And so the boy became a man. Through rigorous training he had mastered the basics of the sword. All that was left for him to do was to put his skills to the test and find his path to become a master of the sword. This, his teachers told him, was something they couldn’t help him with. It would be his journey. What followed was the ‘exciting’ life of a young sellsword. Lothar got a couple of jobs as a caravan guard and it was during a run from New Stetven to Stoneclimb that they encountered a raiding party of goblins, led by an old demented bugbear. While goblins aren’t the fiercest nor most dangerous of creatures, a group of the little buggers should never be underestimated. Lothar distinguished himself in the melee by disarming the bugbear. He then knew what he wanted: to experience again the thrill of battle, knowing his very life was on the line, with only his skill at arms being the difference between life and death.
Upon his return to New Stetven, Lothar found himself drinking to the success of his mission with a couple of friends, both of whom had gone to the same sword school as him. One of them, more than a little drunk, mentioned that the Swordlords of Restov were looking for talented swordsmen to chase away the mites, goblins and a rumored band of goat-riding halfling brigands from the Stolen Lands. It sure as hell paid better than being a guard and if you died, well at least you died a hero. Risking it, Lothar packed his gear and brought along what little coin he had to Restov to try his luck. There he would not have to say a word for his skill at arms would either land him the job or see him be forced to join one of the mercenary companies in the River Kingdoms: there, it only mattered if you could hold a weapon and swing it at the man in front of you. If you survived the fight, great, if not, even better, because they sure as hell ain’t going to send your salary to your next of kin. With his future hanging in the balance, Lothar rides.

Personality:

Keywords: Self-conscious, conceited, scrupulous, frugal, insecure
While Brevoy is accepting of foreigners, the boy Lothar truly felt like an outsider while growing up. From his looks to his size and the way he fought: Lothar simply wasn’t’ a Brevoyan’. Nevertheless, he was talented with a sword. This he knew, because his father told him so again and again. All this turned the carefree boy into a man who feels the need to wear a social and moral straight-jacket. It functions as his social compass and to make sure he fits in. Perhaps one day he’ll find his own way and grow out of it.
He was raised to his father’s strict rules. The passing of his mother at the age of three put the burden of parenthood on his father’s shoulders. By making sure his sons stood out in a positive way they’d find acceptance and respect in the Brevoyan community.
Nonetheless, Lothar has troubles finding a stable footing in life. The feeling of being a stranger, an outsider, someone who doesn’t follow the traditional ways of the Aldori, have made him an insecure person. While he doubts himself, he’ll never doubt his skill at arms.
He is most at ease when with a small group of select friends, drinking and sharing stories, enjoying life. He prefers people who don’t feel the need to make a lot of noise and make themselves ‘present’.

Appearance:

With long dark locks curling backwards as if the wind is ever dancing through it and almond brown eyes, the dashing appearance of Lothar von Juningar is the perfect facade for a rather insecure man. A well-kept Zappa beard and moustache betray how much time he puts into looking good. Still, he dresses in the simple but stylish linen and wool clothes of a duelist, donning heavy armor when duty calls. He wears no jewelry, but his wrists bear a large amount of scars: the result of his years of training.

Desired Kingdom Role:

Marshal, but if he grows into the role of being a leader, perhaps General.

Sample roleplay:

Adrenaline coursed through the swordsman’s veins as he parried a vicious back-handed swing. The bandit might not know the finer subtleties of handing a greatsword, but what he lacked in finesse he made up for with strength. And Lothar respected that. He dipped down through his knees, heard the bandit’s reckless swing whistled above his head, and lunged forward. Merciless steel pierced the bandit’s leather vest. It sank through soft flesh before finding its way between two ribs, leaving the bandit’s lung in ruins. A soft wet gurgle came out of the hapless man’s throat and a sickening sound accompanied the sword as it departed the man’s chest. The duel had not lasted for more than ten seconds and around him people were still fighting for their lives.
Rapidly he blinked his eyes, trying to regaina sense of control as emotions and adrenaline had taken over. His sorcerer companion, a lithe woman who shouldn’t be in hand to hand combat, was beset by a pot-bellied bandit wielding a spear. The bandit’s vicious stabbing motions forced his companion to backpedal, but she couldn’t find the one moment she needed to unleash a spell and it was only a matter of time before he’d gut her like a pig. Without hesitation Lothar charged the man and put himself in harm’s way. Always an even exchange. The day they’d face a magick-user, she’d do the same for him.

Hello, hello!

I am very interested in providing a character candidate also, but I would like to clarify the sourcebook restriction, Inneliese, if you please.

Inneliese wrote:
Paizo hardbacks and the Kingmaker Player's Guide only.

Would this mean the softcover Campaign Settings and Player's Companion line are excluded? If yes, then I would also assume the various tidbits found in other APs and modules would also be out of the question.

I actually didn't catch that stipulation. Yuck. I'll need to modify Ary a bit if selected. One of her traits is from a nonhardback, and the combat style I wanted trades a few things from sword and board (sword and board style is actually better, but this had better flavor, IMO)

Signature moves -> Something else. :P Probably something much less cool, but no biggy.

Dotting for interest. Will have to think about what to create.

Okay, so...

Paza - Yes, that was a wonderful RP sample.

pinvendor - Yeah, none of the softcovers. It's hard enough just keeping track of all the various rules in the core supplements, and I only own a few of the softcovers aside from the Adventure Path books.

Ary - It was actually a sneaky reading comprehension test. Anyone who actually reads all the stipulations and follows them is far more likely to get picked!

:P well, I missed the sourcebook part. Guess I lose :)

To be honest, I was just excited to post... and to try to get Ary into yet another Kingmaker. I'm in love with the character idea. I feel like the posts this round are much better than the last two, though. :( (or :) depending on how you look at it.)

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

I have a character idea. I have played him in about three Kingmaker games so far. Unfortunately they all manage to die midway into the first book...
I will post him tomorrow.

I have several character ideas for a Kingmaker campaign but I have never even been in one, so I'll consider which to enter into recruitment here.

Ralph Flannigan

Stats:
I hope that a Myth-Weavers sheet is okay; I can convert it into a statblock if you prefer. Here it is. I'm still sorting through which mundane equipment I want to buy, as well as deciding on whether or not to get a horse.

Description:
Even at a dismissive 5'4", Ralph is a green-eyed, red-haired fireball of a man. As quickly as his emotions rise, they can simmer into a smoldering char. The only thing shorter than his height is his patience, which he expresses through sarcastic wit. The only two things he's ever found himself to be good at are drinking and fighting, and the two usually go hand-in-hand. His nose is permanently crooked from the number of breaks it's been through, and bruises from fights adorn his body in most places, though he doesn't seem to pay them much mind.

Background:
Ralph forgoes any kind of weapon besides his own two fists, as he sees swordplay as a hobby for kids with too much time and money on their hands. Though typically a bar brawler, he's learned a few unique skills through his odd jobs as a bloke for hire. Whether it's squeezing the information out of a target or simply taking them out back for a beating, Ralph earns his pay well.

However, Ralph has been getting restless as of late. Something about frequenting the same bars all the time hasn't been sitting right with him. Born and raised in the River Kingdoms, he's never stepped outside of his homeland. He's looking to change that, put his skills to use, and make some serious gold, all in one go. When adventurers were called upon by the Swordlords to explore and liberate the Greenbelt, Ralph knew that this was his chance to see the world, and possibly get his name written down for something more than a bar tab.

Desired Kingdom Role: Royal Assassin

I have basically zero information on what the Swordlords or the Lord-Mayor are like, so I don't really know how I'm supposed to roleplay that. I'll get back to it if I can scrape up enough base information on them. I don't think that making up my own personalities for important NPCs that I have no information on to have my character interact with is really an effective method of gauging my roleplaying capabilities, so if another method is acceptable, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for reading!

I understand completely. I got in on the ground floor with my subscriptions back before PFRPG even existed. Looking at the bookcase which only contains PF material at this point makes me realize that starting up now would have felt like reaching base camp at Everest.

Fortunately, I have also heavily invested in HeroLab, and I keep that as up-to-date as possible. Just using the hardbacks and KM PG is as simple as a few toggles. :-)

Roleplay Sample:

Ahto made his way through the streets of Restov, moving from the slums near the gates, up through the merchant district, the wealthy quarter, and finally arrived at the offices of the Lord Mayor.

Climbing the stairs of the fine building, Ahto stopped at the top to look over the city streets. Civilization, he thought. Law, order, commerce, and education. He smiled, knowing that he had walked nearly three miles through bustling, crowded streets and no one had tried to rob or assault him. Abadar's Truth.

He entered and waited outside the office of the Lord Mayor until the clerk ushered him in.

"Greetings, Lord Mayor," he said with a stiff-backed, formal bow. "My name is Ahto Uhlrych, and I have come in response to your solicitation. I would like to sign the charter, and join the expedition into the lands known as the Greenbelt.."

"Hmm," the Lord Mayor replied, giving the man an appraising look. "Are you a warrior, Master Uhlrych, a battle-hardened veteran or mercenary, perhaps? Do you envision yourself crossing swords with the brigands and bandits of the Stolen Lands?"

In response to his question, Ahto reached into the front of his shirt and removed the carved wooden Key of Abadar. "I am a servant of Abadar, and of the Rule of Law, my Lord Mayor. I am not a soldier or professional sell-sword, but I have extensive training from the learned priests of the Church."

Allowing the symbol to rest on his chest in plain view, he reached into the inner pocket of his cloak and retrieved a letter sealed with a stamp identical to his medallion. "May I offer you my references?" he said, as he handed the letter to the Lord Mayor.

Ahto stood patiently as the Lord Mayor opened the letter, and proceeded to read its contents.
After a moment, the Mayor's eyes stopped moving across the page, and he looked up into Ahto's eyes.

"Well, my good man, it seems you have a particular set of skills that would be of great value to our endeavor." The Lord Mayor rose from his desk, and walked around it to stand beside Ahto. "There are many men in this world that have the courage to fight and kill in the heat of battle against an armed opponent, but there are only a handful of them that have the fortitude to do what you do. The Greenbelt is dangerous country, filled with lawless marauders who have robbed, raped, kidnapped and murdered hundreds, if not thousands. This cannot be allowed to continue. However, some who have sought to sign this charter see these bandits as soldiers in an opposing army, as if they will be found properly formed-up in ranks in an open field and charging into battle with their banners raised. You and I know such notions to be utter folly." He placed a hand on Ahto's shoulder.

Ahto nodded. "Yes, Lord Mayor. Bandits are not men of courage. They are vultures, rats, parasites. They only take and destroy, and the only proper response is to eradicate them. They must be separated from the innocent, then culled, like weeds from a garden. I am well aware that many find my profession repugnant, but the feelings of others are beside the point. I know that what I do is truly a service to the greater good."

"Indeed you do, Master Uhlrych," replied the Lord Mayor. "Would you do me, and the people of Restov the service of signing your name to this charter?"

"With pleasure, my Lord Mayor," said Ahto, as he reached for the quill, dipped it in the inkwell, and proceeded to sign.

Alright, crunch is finished for my (Loup Blanc's) submission: Avaru Zandoleski, magus and swordsman extraordinaire. Description is in the profile, and I'll be working on the RP sample and backstory in the coming days.

As a note, Avaru's built with the Slashing Grace feat that'll be officially in print with the Advanced Class Guide later this week (the day before you close recruitment, actually); the devs already spoilered what it looks like, but should they have led us astray, I'll make necessary changes.

If you want more from Barty, let me know. I tried to get all the pertinent info and flavor in the rp in while remaining concise and compact enough to allow for a quick exchange of several posts by folks who may be able to read and reply to short posts without having to wait until the end of the day to read a single long one.
