About dying / draw from deck pile and discard pile.

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Hi. I'm new to the game and recently began a senario with my friends.
i'm beginning to know the rules a little bit better but there's one thing that i still don't really understand.

When you draw your card from your deck and the beginning, i understand that if you don't have your favorite cards, you can reshuffle your discard pile into your deck pile and draw the missing cards to your hand.
But what would happen if you are finishing your turn after a check, then reset and draw your card... but don't have enough cards? does that kill you? or you just do like at the beginning and reshuffle the discard deck into you deck pile?. Because it would be weird that your doing a successful check and win an encounter... but then die after because you don't have enough card to reset your hand at the end of your turn.

Thank you and hoping that someone can help me

The part with drawing your favorate cards only happens at the start of the game and its to ensure you have at least one of the characters favorate cards at the start of the game.

Once the game is going your deck is also your hit points. If you need to draw a card from your deck and you have none then you die. So mutual destruction is possable as you win the encounter but die afterwards. So characters can burn through there deck very quickly so you need to take care not to run out of cards and die.

If, for any reason, you are ever required to remove one or more cards from your deck and you don’t have enough cards, your character dies. Place any cards in your deck, hand, and discard pile under your character card. You cannot take turns, play cards, move, or do anything else for the rest of this scenario. Certain powerful cards allow you to return from death; if this doesn’t happen before the end of the scenario, your death is permanent. The other characters may use the dead character’s cards when they rebuild their decks after the scenario; any cards that they don’t keep are then banished

Afraid you absolutely die. If you've succeeded at an encounter but you've not got that many cards left in your deck, I'd suggest you've probably used too many cards in the encounter.

Getting that balance between playing cards in order to succeed at checks vs. not playing too many is probably the key strategic part of the game. If you could suffle your discard pile and start again, the game would be rather pointless I'm afraid

I will note that if your check wins the scenario, by defeating the villain when he can't escape for example, then you win immediately and you don't have to finish your turn. In that case you wouldn't die because you never get to the step where you draw cards.

But in general you want to be judicious about discarding cards because you're depleting your life to do so.
