Chronicle for pbp

I have recently decided to run my first pbp game. I have a basic question about the chronicle. Do we date the chronicle when the game starts, or when it is completed?

I would think that it should be dated, like one for multi-session module play, at the time of the end of the game.

For any multi-session game, it is probably a good idea to put both the starting and ending dates on the chronicle, as the PC is locked into that game, and cannot play anything else while the multi-session game, whether module or PbP, is ongoing.

I date them the day I end the game. Feel free to PM me if you need any advice or tips for running a pbp.

So if a character is locked in a pbp game and the players receives a GM chronicle. Can he apply that chronicle to the character that is locked?

legally, no.

You cant play the character in two different games at the same time, but assigning a chronicle to a character you are playing should be fine. DM credit or playing a pregen or game like We Be Goblins 1 & 2 are fine, but playing the same character in multiple games at once is not.

In the case of DM credit, it doesn't apply until after the character is freed up, and is then applied in the correct order. So you do not level up, get a bunch of extra monies, and/or suddenly have a new boon feature in the middle of the game you are playing in.

Citation needed on the parts I've bolded. I do not believe this is PFS-legal.

The problem I see is the dates not being in the correct order.

Let’s say the pbp game runs from 07/20/2014 till 08/06/2014. The table game gets played and finishes on 08/01/2014. The pbp game would be chronicle 1 with a complete date of 08/06/2014, and chronicle 2 would have a completed date of 08/01/2014.

Is this correct? Could this be a problem latter?

This is a grey area that has not been given an official wording that I know of yet. The spirit of the idea is that GM credits can "float" until a character of appropriate level becomes available for credit to be applied. Thus the dates don't always appear in the correct order.

So in this case, you would float the chronicle, till the pbp game has concluded, then apply the chronicle?

That is the idea, though as stated it is a grey area. You shouldn't have to much trouble as most PbP GM's currently allow it.

You can only float a credit if the character is not yet a high enough level to take it though. If you float a 1-5, that is going to look really wierd come audit time.

I, personally, don't really care, since in most cases where this might cause problems, it is going to be to your detriment, not your advantage, but there are other people out there who will care.

The way I see it, there are rules for playing the same character in multiple games, but there really are no rules for playing a character in a game that you also get a Chronicle Sheet from another source. It's an issue that normally doesn't apply, as you can't DM and play at the same time, normally, though there is no rule against it. In pretty much any other game but a PbP, this is a non-issue.

When you get a chronicle sheet, it is immediately applied to a character. With the exception of things like playing a Pregen to play a higher tier scenario that you don't have a character whose level can legally play at that level or the few extra cases like We Be Goblins where you can not play your own character, all Chronicle Sheets are applied immediately. There is no stipulation about not being able to apply it to a character that is playing, because again, it's something that only really applies to PbPs.

So, if you play a game on Jan 1st, and apply it to a character that is in play in a PbP that ends on Feb 1st, you would apply the Chronicle for the Jan game then the Feb game. However, unless the GM in the game that ends in Feb allows it, you are not suddenly going to gain a bunch of money, gear, PP, and XP in the middle of the adventure, so as soon as the Feb game ends, you "unofficially" gain both Chronicles. You gain them in the order that you received them, and if the first Chronicle Sheet would make it illegal for you to continue in the game you are playing (such as boosting your level outside of the allowed tier), then you simply can not apply that first chronicle to that character, (as by the time you received the 2nd Chronicle, it is not a legal option for your Character, and can not be applied).

There was supposed to be an official PbP PFS guide posted back in April, but it sort of never came and then vanished. Not sure what's going on with that.
