Redoing the APG for 5th?

4th Edition

Any chance that Paizo will publish a 5th edition version of their alternate classes from Advanced Players Guide?

Liberty's Edge

My hunch would be no. That doesn't mean that a 3rd party couldn't make a 5th ed equivalent using the OGL.

I can't imagine why they would. They didn't do 4E versions of any of their stuff, so why expect 5E versions?

Iirc, there is no OGL for 5th.

There is no licensing agreement currently for 5E. Mike Mearls had asked, rhetorically or otherwise, if the OGL would be a good move for WotC on 5E. We'll see if they go with it or another license when they announce their licensing arrangements come November iirc. In any event the lack of a commitment to the OGL for 5E from WotC hasn't stopped another company (Necromancer) from working on 5E material under the OGL. I have no idea how it will all turn out. In any event Paizo seems completely committed to Pathfinder. No surprise there and I doubt they have the desire or resources to do any 5E work themselves.

I hope not. It would dilute my Pathfinder material.

How would it dilute one Pathfinder material?

I have both Pathfinder and 5E starter set sitting side by side on a shelf. I can tell you that physically they are not at all altered on any level. Having both is not causing me to be unable to like, play or run both either. I get not liking 5E. Let's not go into the realm of ridiculous please. I don't think it ill happen. At least until their is a OGL for 5E.

I feel like it would be a bad idea for Paizo to actively support their biggest competitor and threat. Paizo my have stolen the crown from Wizards, but their place at the top isn't completely secure.

I'm sure there'll be some fan made documents floating around for various races. Barring that, I'd count on the DMG having guidelines for creating a race.

Wizards has D+D and Paizo has Pathfinder. Get used to the idea that from now till forever those paths will remain separate.

5e is still similar enough that conversion can be done relatively easily. No need for an "official" conversion.

Besides that, its generally not a good business model to actively support your competition in the market.

Because if they start making 5E material it will impact the amount of Pathfinder material that comes out. And I don't want that happening.

I don't think D&D 5E is going to need more classes for a long while. Within the twelve classes there are 40 big class defining options built in if you count the 7 domains for clerics and 8 schools for wizards with choices ranging from eldritch knights to arcane tricksters to wild mages. That is a lot of options and those 40 don't include all the class feature choices, just the biggest one for each class.

And that doesn't include a background (13 choices) which determines a lot of the trained skills and connections a PC has. Add in the optional feats and multiclassing and that is a lot of different PCs that can built using just the PH.

I think your selling the devs short. I doubt it will happen in any case. I just don't see the need to worry. The sky won't fall. Posters claimed that more book with more options would spell the end if the rpg. So far that too has not happened IMO.

We enjoy the adventure paths, so I am hoping to find a 5th edition version of those classes so I can easily convert characters to 5th edition, if I choose to use this system. I thought I read somewhere that supplements weren't covered under the OGL, you just could not reference the official books (except with page numbers). "Game Supplements" bypassed the OGL, if i understood what I read on another forum.

I would like to see Pathfinder evolve, though, depending on how well 5e works out. I know people who have no interest in buying the new PHB. I do. In any case, I would love to see an evolution.

3.x/PAthfinder can't last forever in it's present form (okay I'm a D&D liberal, throw me to the Democrats :D ). But I'm glad for all the Pathfinder material has come out. :)

If Paizo does 5e stuff, it would be wonderful if they did. But, like I said, I'd love to see Pathfinder evolve with a 5e impact. :)
