Combat maneuvers on medium BAB characters

Advice

I seem to remember there being a feat or some other way to treat your level as your BAB when doing Combat Maneuvers, as I am making a whip based bard focusing on Trip with combat reflexes.

Weapon Finesse > Agile Maneuvers for this, but I seem to remember there being a way to improve your BAB when making combat maneuvers.

I know that monks have pseudo full BAB and I know there is a magus arcana that does it, but I am neither of those classes. Is there anything I can do?

Well, what class ARE you? A bard?

It is possible that you are thinking of a monk class ability or this:

Defensive Combat Training (Combat Feat) You treat your total Hit Dice as your base attack bonus when calculating your Combat Maneuver Defense (see Combat).

That's the one I was thinking of, yes.

So I'm thinking as far as the build goes:

1) Lingering Performance, Weapon Finesse
3) Combat Reflexes
5) Weapon Focus (Wayfinder); Whip Mastery
7) Combat Expertise
9) Improved Trip

This is for a home game, stats as rolled are:

STR 9
DEX 18
CON 17
INT 16
WIS 14
CHA 19

By request, this character is meant to be skills/knowledge/support, so I favored the CRB bard, and INT over STR.

I do believe there is issue with the rules on whips and taking attacks of opportunity at a range though.

Combat Reflexes is a dead feat until just before you qualify for Improved Whip Mastery. I would suggest pushing it back and moving other items up. As for you CMB issue, you will just have to alleviate it with the standard CMB boosting items and +Hit spells.

Do you have to threaten to take an attack of opportunity, I was under the impression that threaten was for flanking purposes.

The whip is treated as a melee weapon with 15-foot reach, though you don't threaten the area into which you can make an attack.

An enemy that takes certain actions while in a threatened square provokes an attack of opportunity from you.

Since you don't threaten the square, you can't make an AOO.

Make a Hobgoblin! You can use the Demoralizing Lash line of feats to improve your team in battle.
