Rise of the Runelords, Burnt Offerings

Recruitment

1 to 50 of 81 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

The town of Sandpoint is once again in danger, And there are heroes in abundance upon Varisia.

I would like to gather a small group of those adventurers and run them through the first module of Rise of the Runelords, Burnt Offerings.

I will admit that I have attempted to run this module before, and it did not go well. I want to redouble my efforts this time and make it from page 1 to the end.

If, at the end of the module, the party wishes to proceed to the second module, I own that one as well.

A few things about me.

1) I am not entirely familiar with the Pathfinder setting. So mistakes will be made and errors will be had. Please feel free to correct me, or ask if that is what I meant to say, but please be respectful, to all players, not just me.

2) I am in college and working a full time job, so my posting will be sporadic, though most weekends I am available.

3) I post from both computer and phone, so some of my posts are going to be short and hasty, and some will be lengthy and detailed if I can manage it.

I am looking for Role players, not Roll-Players. I want to see players who have characters that grow and interact and have hopes and dreams and aspirations. I want characters that make mistakes, feel fear, and show growth beyond 'leveling up'. I will award XP for creative thinking and detailed roleplaying, but I will not penalize players for situations where all that is to be done is roll a die.

I expect that if someone rolls diplomacy, to have diplomatic words. If someone rolls intimidate, I expect a threat to go along with it.

I think that 4-5 is the best number of adventurers for this particular campaign

some questions that might help, what is the point buy number? when are you closing recruitment? is anything not allowed?

I think 20 point buy seems reasonable

the recruitment will be open until either Saturday, or, if we have a plethora of submissions, when five viable candidates are chosen

I don't want any one member of the party being overpowered so I am not allowing third partying or the summoner class.

hey there DK good luck with your game....

I am in a few runelord games, so I don't need another, but I do hope all works out and I hope you get a great group of players.

I'd be interested. Played in a RotR game midway through, but I'd like to start from the beginning. More than likely I'll go cleric.

Few other questions: Do you want two traits (one being a campaign trait)? And what should starting gold be?

I have a sorceress that I'd like to put forward. I'll have to de-level her and make some tweaks to account for the 20 point buy.

I would like to submit Skerrin Maltisse, a LN Elven Wizard(Conjuror) for consideration :-)

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

.

Pending your reply, GM, I'm rebuilding my character using average gold and 3 traits (1 campaign, 2 other, 1 drawback).

Please let us know soon how you'd like us to use traits and the like! :)

I've been looking for a Rise of the Runelords game. I still need to complete my full stats in my profile, but I would like to go ahead and apply.

Name: Altus Mareva
Race: Human
Age: 20
Class: Cleric (Sarenrae, Healing/Good), Favored Class (+1 SP)
Alignment: Chaotic Good

Attributes:

STR: 13 (+1)
DEX: 13 (+1)
CON: 12 (+1)
INT: 10
WIS: 17 (+3)
CHA: 14 (+2)

Background:

Altus Mareva was born in Korvosa to a merchant family. His parents provided well for him but they were busy with the family business and Altus had a lot of time to himself. He was also the youngest of their four sons so his help in the shops was not needed as much. As such, he spent his time reading and exploring around the city. When he was fourteen his parents began to discuss who would carry on the company. As the youngest and least engaged in the business, Altus was an unlikely choice. In any event, he never quite felt like he belonged around ledgers and inventories anyway. He wanted something more out of life. Luckily for him he had an uncle who was a cleric of Sarenae. Altus was sent to train with him at the goddess's temple.

At first Altus had mixed feelings about being sent away, but he soon found that being a cleric was exactly what his life needed. Following Sarenae gave him purpose and he would get to see the world. He also had a real talent for healing. After completing his training, he traveled with his uncle for a while as a traveling healer and missionary. When he turned twenty he ventured out on his own. He headed west, wanting to see the Varisian Gulf. When he reached Nybor, he heard that the charming coastal town of Sandpoint had finished a cathedral and was going to be holding a festival to celebrate. Eager to join in the fun, Altus set out to find the town.

Personality:

Altus is kind, cheerful, friendly, and free spirited. His great goal in life is to explore the world, see the sights, and help people along the way. He has trouble staying in one place for too long though. He has a tendency to get bored and leave seeking something new. While he is a dedicated cleric of Sarenae, he is no fanatic. He respects all the good deities and is comfortable with different ideas and opinions. When threatened, Altus is willing to defend what he believes though. He has no love of fighting, but he won't back down from danger

Appearance:

Altus has light blond hair that he keeps rather long, not due to fashion but because he often forgets to get it trimmed. Similarly, his traveler’s outfit is patched, worn, and usually dusty, and his armor could use a good polish. Overall he looks like a man who has spent a lot of time on the road. The scimitar that he wears at his hip is in excellent condition though.

Traits/Feats/Skills:

Traits:
Student of Faith (Campaign Trait) +1 CL for Cure Spells, +1 save DC for Channeled Energy
World Traveler (Human Race Trait) +1 Knowledge (Local), Knowledge (Local) is a class skill

Starting Feats:
Toughness
Extra Channel

Ranked Sills:
Heal +7, Perception +4, Diplomacy +6, Knowledge(Religion) +4

Weapons/Armor:

Weapons:
Scimitar
Dagger
Sling

Armor:
Scale Mail
Buckler

HAI, DK!!!

I IZ COMING UP WITH IDEAZ NOW!!

Dragoncat here, with my submission: Tassira Vantyev!

Originally built for a homebrew campaign that eventually died, she's going to be built as a supporting caster. Don't mind the homebrew statblock in the spoiler tag--I'm keeping it around in case the campaign ever gets going again. :)

Sorry for taking so long to respond, I don't have this in my campaign tab, so I can't find it very easily...
I should have specified, but yes, I want two traits, one from the handbook, and average gold.

okay, so far we have a submission for,
an elven conjurer
a human sorceress
Iolth, (no submission)
a human cleric
and IRNK, (no submission)

we are quite heavy on the magic side... And rather empty on the martial end.

lets hope for more submissions soon :)

So, would I be allowed to take a drawback for a third trait?

I'm working on an elf two-weapon warrior fighter that I'd like to submit.

what drawback are you taking and for what trait?

if you are taking a drawback, it should hinder you at least as much as the trait benifits you

The drawback I'm taking is Doubt.

You lack confidence in your abilities or confidence in the universe at large.

Effect: Whenever you fail a skill or ability check, you take a –4 penalty on that type of skill or ability check for the next hour.

So if I screw up on a check, it'll haunt me for a while.

The trait I'm picking is Trustworthy.

PFSRD wrote:

People find it easy to put their faith in you.

Benefits: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Bluff checks made to fool someone. You also gain a +1 trait bonus on Diplomacy checks, and Diplomacy is always a class skill for you.

Would this be alright?

Zack Muad'Dweeb here.

My question is about starting hp - roll for it, full hit die, some other method I'm not thinking of?

Perfect. That seems reasonable, and I think it will be a great thing to show off in role play as well.

Zack: Full starting HP and roll after that.

Yay! :D

With regards to posting, I can work with whatever rate works best for you.

Seeing all the casters, I may just go with a ranger. I'll whip up something real quick.

Signore here. I decided to go quite vanilla, just have to put up a backstory and she'll be done.

P.S. Old alias, new character.

@Tassira: Mind if I work your character into my backstory? My concept is a Shoanti that left home and became enamored with the exotic (to her, at least) Chelaxians when she came to Sandpoint.

@Jerrica: I don't see why not. I could fiddle with her background as well, to account for her interest. :)

She's only ethnically Chelaxian--definitely not so in outlook.

Thanks, I'll finish that up then :)

Done and ready for perusal.

@Jerrica: How recently has Jerrica come to Sandpoint?

I am interested, and would be a first time PBP player, would this be an issue. Am looking at a Human Cavalier, will work out details tonight.

Correction, dwarven Cavalier. :)

Between six months and a year ago.

Well, Tassira's background now includes Jerrica. :)

Question, how do you feel about pregame mundane item crafting. from the craft skill ?

Okay, Sorry to be a buzzkill, but you all arrive in sandpoint on the day of the festival, so Jerrica has not been there for a year and a half.

@ Mokshai, Pregame item crafting is forbidden because it doubles (ish) your starting gold.... and I've had issues with gamers abusing the leniency before.

Sorry

Can't Tassira be a local in Sandpoint?

If not, I can adjust her background to account for that as well...

Alrighty. I guess I'll adjust then. Probably need to exchange her trait as well.

Edit: Could we go with Magnimar instead of Sandpoint, GM?

Anywhere but sandpoint is acceptable

Fair enough.

I'll work on it in the morning.

Made changes, still kept Tassira as part of her backstory.

Made adjustments as well. Jerrica's still a part of her background as well.

Thank you very much.

Everyone who is still watching and wanting to play, please give an introduction post below

:D

It's a lovely day today.

Tassira looks up into the clear blue sky as the caravan travels along the Lost Coast road. The trip from Magnimar to the town of Sandpoint was going smoothly, with refreshing sea breezes blowing in off the Varisian Gulf keeping everyone in good spirits. Even the caravan master was in a good mood today.

She shifts a bit, her eyes looking from the sky to the road ahead. The town of Sandpoint was ahead, its buildings and sounds a welcome change from the monotony of the dirt road. A sign by the side of the road catches her eye--it had a mirror on it in addition to a message.

Welcome to Sandpoint! Please stop to see yourselves as we see you!

And so Tassira does. She sees a tall, pale-skinned, willowy young woman with back-length black hair that she always keeps in a ponytail, wearing a faded green vest with what seemed to be countless pockets, green undershirt, and green leggings ending with brown calf-length leather boots. She certainly didn't look like a mage... until she saw her face. Storm-grey eyes with a distant look in them to match stared back at her as Tassira looked at her reflection.

Almost reflexively, she smiled. The distant look her twin gave her melts away, replaced with that same smile.

Almost like she's an entirely different person...

Soon enough, the caravan stops at the entrance to Sandpoint to unload its cargo. Tassira hops off her wagon, stepping into Sandpoint's streets...

Whenever anyone asks other members of the Melisteara family about Raef’finan, the answer usual begins with an exasperated sigh and a roll of the eyes.

Raef’finan has not exactly comported himself in a manner befitting the scion of a nobel elvish family. The house elders were not concerned when young Raef’finan displayed absolutely zero aptitude for magic, arcane or divine. After all, many nobleborn elves gained honor and renown in elite ranger corps and martial orders. But while he displayed a definite enthusiasm for warfare and some natural skill at arms, Raef’finan was eventually drummed out of every outfit he joined. He was too loud and impulsive to be a ranger, too obstinate and irreverent to be a cavalier, and defintely too undisciplined for either.

In a last ditch effort to maintain his son’s (and by association, the family’s) respectability, Raef’finan’s father came to an agreement with the patriarch of another noble house, Cel’lestine. Raef’finan would be commissioned in a mostly ceremonial position within the Cel’lestine household militia. In exchange for this sinecure, Raef’finan would marry a Cel’lestine daughter.

Raef’finan wasn’t aware of any of this until an inebriated cousin at his secret bachelor party let slip what was going to happen the next morning. After telling everyone at the party that he was going to the bathroom, Raef’finan grabbed what gear he could and fled.

Sandpoint seems like a quiet enough place to plan his next move.

I'd like to suggest any of the three
A) A female Dwarven barbarian/fighter who is looking for work as a caravan guard, city militia, or mercenary...
B) Og the Smasher- A full orc (not half orc) CN Boar Style Unarmed Fighter...He is a prize fighter, and a lacks most social skills...sadly.
C) Viktor Zarvich a Dhampir Paladin from Ustalav (Yes, cliche)

DK, understandable, I will adjust, and submit.

No orc, no dhampir

I don’t have a full background yet, working on it, and due to other obligations, won't have it until after the weekend.

Thomas Axehammer
Dwarf Cavalier

Attributes:

Str 16 (+3)
Dex 11 (0)
Con 14 (+2)
Int 14(+2)
Wix 12 (+1)
Cha 10(0)

defences:

AC 16, Touch 10, Flat Footed 16

saves:

Saves
Fort 4
Reflex 0
Will 1

skills:

Appraise 3, Handle animal 4, Percept 5, Ride 1, Survival 5

Thomas dismounted from his horse, and knuckled the small of the back in front of a little sign that says "Welcome to Sandpoint. Please see yourself as we see you"

After brushing the travel dust off of his clothing, Thomas looks into the little mirror there.

His grey eyes see a solid 4 ft, 2 in, 200 pound dwarf, with scar running from the corner of the right eye, back under his bright red hair.

A quiet looking town, I could come to like it here

A Caravan, I wonder what goods they may have for sale but first things are first

Excuse me sir, where can I find an inn and stable

Happy to be away from the cramped place that was Magnimar, Jerrica walks along the road with unrestrained excitement. She looks to the others she travels with, wondering if they were just as excited. Probably not. This is close to what I once called home.

She bites her lip nervously, wondering if she would run into anyone else from her quah here. Jerrica sees the sign advertising Sandpoint and cocks her head to the side. See myself as they see me? But they haven't seen me yet...

She looks in the mirror, brushing her brown bangs away from her amber eyes. Her finger traces down the little markings of her unfinished tattoo. She smiles and looks to the sky, it would be a good day today. New people, new experiences, new food.

I've got a character that I would like to submit if there is still space for an aasimar half elf ranger. I will vouch for Dragoncat however, fun to play with. You won't be disappointed in choosing their character :D

Silver Crusade

Would you allow Gnolls as a playable race?

I think the GM is only allowing core races in...
