Iron Gods

The Exchange

So i am running the Emerald Spire Dungeon right now and one of the highlighted characters is a Numerian man named Karklosh...i know i am going to run the Iron Gods campaign next so i got the great idea of having a weird, mechanical device be on his person when my group killed him...its obviously nothing they have ever seen before and i figured that would be a great intro into the AP. I know how they are going to find out about it and where it comes from...im just having a tough run at figuring out how to incorporate their new characters into the campaign...anyone have any cool ideas with using the device to get them there? thanks :)

Karklosh, in his time in Numeria, got his hands on an odd artifact from Silver Mount that he eventually decided was useless. What he did not realize was that the curious looking device is the crux of a larger experimental device the starship's crew had worked on. This was a prototype "ego bridge", a massive device that had the ability to identify and locate the part of the brain that some people would call one's soul, or the "self". The ultimate plan was to use this machine to upload people's minds and allow them to re-download themselves into another body, effectively "curing" involuntary death. The ship, unfortunately, crashed on Golarion before the ego bridge could be completed.

Karklosh had unwillingly received the part of the ego bridge that acts as a, well, "bridge" between two brains if someone is uploading their mind from one to another. When this device is handled by certain people with certain neural structures---coincidentally, the PCs---they are blasted with thousands of memories at once, all jumbled and incoherent. But other memories are a bit more clear---because these memories are from artificial life, ie the "Iron Gods".

While the PCs still can't quite make sense of them---they are the "memories" of AIs, after all---they all get a sense that something terrible is slumbering in the depths of the technological dungeons that are in Numeria. Not only that, but when they handled the device, it attuned to their brain waves---and the Iron Gods have noticed.

...And yes I just blatantly stole this from Eclipse Phase and Mass Effect. Sue me!
