The Lament of Seoni (possible spoilers)

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Having just received my copy of Spires of Xin-Shalast this morning I decided to jump right in to the first scenario to continue my solo play with Valeros, Seoni, Merisial, and Kyra. While I won't bore you with all of the awesome details, one event sticks out in my mind.

Seoni, still slightly annoyed after losing her charmed red dragon in the exploration of the Runeforge, was hanging around the temple trying to get a few boons. Unfortunately she crosses paths with a cannibal haunt. Deciding that her hand was too good to lose any one card she decides to gamble and banish the top card of her deck. How bad could that be...right?

Bye-bye Wand of Enervation.

So on top of her dragon almost killing everyone during an intense battle with the final villain of Sins of the Saviors, she loses one of the best items the party had.

Needless to say, they did not succeed.

Was still awesome, though.

Dragon probably burnt it durring the fight and she just missed that it had been cooked.

Great story. Thanks for sharing.

Yeahhhhh never banish a card from your deck or hand unless you absolutely don't want it and know exactly what it is. =p

I'm always paranoid, for instance, about going to a location with a "Banish card on closing" effect for fear I'll pull the villain on the first card and end up having to banish something or running the location dry before I can close it. But once I'm there, I always try to keep some bogus card in hand (like a Wooden Shield or potion) so I can burn it for closing.

On a sidenote, I really wish the dragon was "bury" when you fail the check, and maybe something more toned-down in place of the +5 Fire... like 1d6+3 or +2 with the Fire trait. Pet dragons are just an awesome status symbol. =)

Oh geez, I remember that scenario. We were so paranoid that we wouldn't go to any locations until we scouted it out first. We ended up somehow not encountering any of the cannibal haunts (the villain kept moving to their locations, causing them to close before we found them), but it's always better safe than sorry!

It's possible that I'm misreading what you wrote, but if not... good news! If you encounter and defeat a villain you don't have to attempt the location's closing requirement, it's automatically closed without (additional) effort. Your cards are safe!

He's referring to the fact that he banished a card to close, but didn't really close it because the Villain was still there.
