This video might be gone when you click it, but it should be possible to dig it up elsewhere if that's the case.
It looks like a CGI "storyboard" clip, like one of those made to shop a movie around to various investors/studios. Complete with Ryan Reynolds voice acting.
Why isn't this a slam dunk for a studio to pick up?
Ivan Rûski |
Technically, it is already "picked up". Fox has the rights to it. The problem is they want to go for a hard R rating with it and are having trouble convincing the studio execs to green light it. They suits just see it as another superhero movie, and an R rated superhero movie is a big risk, especially after Kickass 2 flopped.

It's exactly the type of movie that should probably need an R/PG-18 rating.
Of course, with that type of rating, it will probably not cater to the teenie audience that is so vital (in the studio's eyes) for the success of the superhero films.
I really don't think you understand the "teenie" audience. People bring 10 year olds to R movies ALL THE TIME. I have never seen a theater card.

Deadpool, the merc with a mouth, is a sociopathic mass murderer with a spiderman-esque flair of wisecracking. while killing. everything.
EVERYTHING!!!
He's a lot like the murderhobos people often complain about, only better at it.

Anything else would just be cheap. Deadpool should be severing limbs and heads in a bloody mess, daydreaming about mostly if not wholy naked women, cursing up a storm, and generally doing things that aren't appropriate for kids to watch.
If this is what the comics are like, it sounds like the few bits I've seen of them posted around the internet, which are admittedly hilarious, have all been the (apparently rare) PG-rated segments. I was thinking his whole comic was more like that, but apparently not. Again, unfortunate.

The older run done by Joe Kelly is much more in this vein. Newer writers seem to amp up the violence and crude humor after that, especially in the MAX line. Which is sad because it takes him from a character and turns him into a caricature IMO...

I'll make a point of checking that out then =) Thanks!

I will agree with this.
I remember his first appearance in X-Force and then his 4 part short shot before he got his own line. I think my brother still might have them. He struck me as efficient and a little sarcastic. Over time, certain elements became exaggerated until, yes, he is his own caricature.
I like both, but the new is so different from the old, its not even close to the same character.
Awesome link by the way, GentleGiant. Thank you. :)
And others have pointed out, Deadpool has become such a violent, silly,... Wait. As Snorri Nosebiter pointed out, just make Spider-Man evil, swap out agility for wolverine's regeneration and that's him.

Umm...sorry, this video does not exist?
And Purple Dragon Knight, not sure exactly what you wanted me to link to, so here's the search results for the game.

Personally, this is part of why I love the character. He's become a parody of what Liefeld intended him to be.

Yeah, seems like it's been taken down again. Well, people will have to dig a little then, I'm sure it's out there.
Edit:
Here it is... for now. ;-)

I think the other big problem is the studio is really resistant to the idea of hiring someone like Reynolds, and then covering his face up the entire movie (or have it be hideously disfigured when it's not covered up).
I dunno...I think you could probably do a PG-13 Deadpool. The Wolverine-focused movies are pretty violent...you just can't include any Kill Bill style blood sprays. the most distinctive feature of the character is the humor from breaking the 3rd wall and playing with comic tropes...I think you can do that without an R.
Although Deadpool I think fits in much better with the MCU than it does with the Fox Marvel universe.

Yeah, this is what I was hoping for when the first talk of a possible Deadpool movie was floating around the internet.
Tinkergoth |
I'm hoping that if it does happen, it keeps his fourth wall breaking tendencies. I always liked that he was the character who'd been through so much, and had his mind warped so badly, that he actually realised he was a comic book character. Like his acknowledgement of the thought bubbles that float around his head. Carried over nicely into his video game representations as well, like his victory animations and some of his special moves from Marvel vs Capcom 3 (from memory one of them involved him beating the opponent with his health bar).
One of my favourite Deadpool moments isn't actually from his comic though. It's when he came up against Moon Knight in his series a few years back. Moon Knight's been struggling the whole time to not give into his rage and start killing again, and then he finds out that he literally can't kill Deadpool, so there's no reason to hold back. He starts laughing, and Deadpool's laughing as well while trying to figure out the joke... cut to Deadpool beaten so badly that he's only able to talk to his client through a spy hole in a door so that they can't see how wrecked he is.
Really liked the test footage though. Hopefully there's enough of a positive reaction that it gets the go ahead.
Threeshades |
Well seeing as how he directly adresses the viewer in the beginning of the clip, I'd think they've got the 4th wall stuff down just fine.
I also agree that the movie shouldnt be cut down to less than R-rated. Both for the extreme gory violence deadpool inflicts on his enemies and the extreme gory violence that his enemies inflict on him.
Then there is his language and his behaviour towards the other sex, that is kind of an important part of his personality and should probably not be viewed by children and young teens.
Threeshades |
I've just been given this link to a higher quality version of the footage above. Since the previous two links have already expired.

the latest story arc when Deadpool went to North Korea is not for the faint of heart... there's no way Deadpool should be less than R rated. Parents who bring their kids to bloodbath movies: shame on you.
Once sold GTO 3 (Before censoring) to a grandmother for her 9 year old grandson. Some parents and grandparents are incredibly stupid, and it is their fault.

Actually, *beeping* his remarks, blurring his gestures and him becoming even madder at that could be a hilarious way of making the movie pg...
Or in an R-rated movie, you could have the bleeping and blurring, until he gets so pissed off he walks off the set, kills whoever is doing the censoring and goes back into the movie.

damn good idea, but have it happen early enough to still enjoy the whole uncensored thing. Maybe make a censored version where that scene never happens and it stays blurred and bleeped for the little ones...

Sometimes enlightenment simply shows you how bad things actually are. Truly, ignorance is bliss.

You Sir, are an opportunist. Did you get lots for it or just its fair used condition price? Did you warn that grandmother what she was buying?
I would not chalk down someone who has little knowledge in a particular field to stupid. You obviously were the subject expert in the matter and took advantage of her inferior knowledge. Like some car dealership salesman selling a lemon to an unsuspecting customer who can not know the history of previous repairs...

I would say we don't know all the details.
I would, however, go so far to say that if I were to buy something for a 10 year old or below, I would take a look at any ratings, asking what they meant from someone who works there if I did not know/understand the system, before I purchased, and cleared the item with said child's parents before giving it as a gift.
I am willing to take it on faith that the Captain asked the age of the child (since he mentioned it), and then, possibly, pointed out that the game might be a little mature (which I see cashiers saying instead of saying 'age inappropriate' because not everyone agrees what is age appropriate... kind of like a coworker who stated that she watches Walking Dead and Dexter with her one and some change year old...).

Variety: "X-Men Spinoff ‘Deadpool’ to Hit Theaters Feb. 12, 2016"
Tim Miller is the director, Lauren Shuler Donner (of all Fox's X-Men & Wolverine movies) and Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige are producers. Ryan Reynolds still rumored for the lead, but currently unconfirmed by the studio.

Heard the news about this earlier today. I've already notified the GM for the game I have on tonight that I'll be slightly delayed due to a need to detour past the FLGS for a performance of my "I was right" dance in front of the staff member who called me an idiot for daring to hope that there'd be enough positive reaction to the footage for the project to get the green light.

{puts on "+5 colander of conspiracy piercing"} It's almost as if the test footage wasn't an accidental leak at all, more like one of those nice strategically-placed ladies at the market handing out tasty tasty samples of the full-size products you can buy (or steal).
