Is Mithral Shirt always available?

I know that the Chain Shirt made of Mithral is always available.

Is the Mithral Shirt (CRB 466) always available?

It is mundane (completely non-magical), but does not appear in Chapter 6 of the CRB. The way it is written, it seems like:

    * Mithral shirt +1 is always available (+1 armor provision along with FAQ on named items)
    * Mithral shirt may not be unless it is listed someplace other than the CRB.
    * Chain shirt can be made of Mithral, but weights 2.5 lbs (1.25 lbs for small) more.

Since I don't yet have 9 fame and am always bumping against the top of the light load for encumbrance limits, I thought it best to ask.

Thanks!

*boggle* I never noticed that item before. It's a mithral chain shirt in every possible way, except it costs 100 gp less and weights 2.5 lbs less. Why is this even an item? And how come I never noticed it before? I have a couple of characters with mithral chain shirts that I paid 1200 for instead of saving a 100 for this thing.

I was about to answer that all non-magic items are always available, except for dragonhide, but then I checked the wording the Guide to Organized Play. It specifically says that everything in chapter 6 is always available (except dragonhide) and that non-magical items from "any other source that is legal for play" are always available. The question is whether "any other source" means other books, or if that phrase includes other parts of the Core Rulebook, as well. I honestly don't know.

This is from Page 466 of the CRB

MITHRAL SHIRT
Aura no aura (nonmagical); CL —
Slot armor; Price 1,100 gp; Weight 10 lbs.

DESCRIPTION
This extremely light chain shirt is made of very fine mithral
links. The armor has an arcane spell failure chance of 10%, a
maximum Dexterity bonus of +6, and no armor check penalty. It
is considered light armor

I wonder if the version of the CRB you are looking at has a typo which has been corrected in later printings.
And AFAIK, it is always avaiable.

The cost is correct on Mithral Shirt

"Cost Weapons or armors fashioned from mithral are always masterwork items as well; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below"

The only thing off about it is the weight and while I'm sure 2.5 lbs is enough to make a difference for some characters, I wouldn't worry about it.

Gah! My mistake. For some reason, I thought chain shirts were 200 gp, not 100. Not sure where I got that idea from.

I fully agree that it is confusing having "Mithral Shirt" from CRB 466 be different than a Chain Shirt made of Mithral. As is pointed out above, the only difference is the weight.

True, it could be read as other parts of the Core Rulebook.

These things have been around long enough, what is the correct reading here?

The breastplate, which is the medium armor counterpart to the chain shirt, costs 200 GP. Maybe you were thinking of that?

...Huh. All this time, when someone mentioned a "mithral shirt", I thought they just meant "mithral chain shirt" and that maybe 3.5 had a slightly different naming convention for that piece of armor. Never realized it was a (slightly) different item. Weird.

Probably. I have a couple of clerics who run around in breast plates.
