Clarification on GM credit and rebuilds

Hey all,

I wanted to know if applying a chronicle sheet acquired from GM credit counts as "playing" that character.

I attended a convention, after which I decided to start running PFS in my area. However, I only played three modules at the convention. Since then, I have been applying the majority of my GM credit to that character.

The character has never been played above level one.

Since then I've been reconsidering my choice of class, partially because my usual players, who will be attending another con with me where I will be playing at their table, have also changed the party configuration around substantially. We're now light on muscle and heavy on skills. It is also partially because I understand the game a lot better, and my character wasn't well-built.

At the start of a Pathfinder’s career, you are allowed to adjust your character before settling in for the long haul. Before you level up a character for the first time, you may change any aspect of it except its Pathfinder Society Number. Changes may only be made between adventures and before playing as a character above 1st level. Any exceptions will be noted in the Pathfinder Society FAQ. You are able to keep all treasure, Prestige Points, special boons, and XP that you have earned and apply them to the character once you retrain as long as the character meets the criteria above.

GMing doesn't count as playing in this context; you're fine to rebuild.

Modules award 3 XP each. So, if you played 3 modules your character would be 3rd level. Scenarios only award 1XP each. So you can play 3 scenarios before hitting 2nd level.

You're forgetting you start at level one; nine XP means you've leveled up three times, which makes you level four.

I'm expecting that he, like many other people, is referring to a scenario as a module.

My bad, I meant scenario. Thanks for the clarification.

@SCPR: Ah, yep. 4th level.

@ JBurz: Ok. I thought scenarios was what you meant. Big difference between modules & scenarios. :)

Well, also remember that some modules only award 1 XP:

We Be Goblins!
Master of the Fallen Fortress
We Be Goblins Too!
Dawn of the Scarlet(?) Sun
Risen from the Sands

And, of course, if you miss much of a multi-session module run, you might get less than the 3 XP reward...

Accursed Halls:
Seems that teh time to run this one swings, at least for me, wildly. The first time I ran it, it took two sessions. MNost times I have run it since, it takes 4-6 hours. The last time I ran it, we ran the full 6 hours plus, and the players only barely completed one of the branches, ending with defeating the crickets. Ran out of time, no time to schedule another session to complete it, so awarded 2 XP instead of the full 3.

Strangely enough, according to the adventure itself, Master of the Fallen Fortress is both a module and a scenario...

Master of the Fallen Fortress is a Pathfinder Module designed for four 1st-level characters and uses the medium XP advancement track. Master of the Fallen Fortress is also a Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for 1st-level characters (Tier 1).
