Question about settlements

I just finished listening to the Gobbocast from 7/23/14 with Tork Shaw and had a question.

You were talking about settlements have large, medium, and small building slots. What else is expected to fit into the large slots besides "class" training buildings? Will it be other settlement structures, like markets and crafting centers (blacksmith, tailor, ect?) or what?

I am asking so that planning can begin and discussions can be had over the "optimum" settlement builds.

Also, if those 3 slots are expected to only be class training, then it can be assumed that we can have 3 of the 4 classes covered for training in each settlement? Is this correct?

Here's some sample settlements that Tork made a while back. Not sure if that is what you're looking for.

A settlement will have multiple plots of each size. Large plots will train 3 related roles, eg a University will train wizards, sorcerers, and bards. Medium plots will train a single role. Small plots will support a role but not train it, or train a couple of craft skills. Tiny plots will house civic assets/decorations.

We have almost no information on non-training assets like guard barracks or marketplaces. The detailed info you would want to start planning out a detailed city design just isn't out yet.

A market will take a large plot. That is another clue in the narrow features range allowed to a settlement.

Yeah, the Markets in Alpha are pretty big. I think Ryan and I might have been the first to trade based on negotiations in General Chat and then meeting in the Market. He seemed pretty excited about that :)

Is there a link to this podcast? I went to the site and June 30th was the latest I saw. Episode 15 with Lee.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the June 7th episode.

Also note that none of these city planning issues will come into play at the start of EE. To begin with, we will have prebuilt city templates that allow you to choose any 2 out of the 4 base classes, or to specialize in crafting, but no other options.

There will be a Great Cataclysm at some point during EE which will destroy those premade settlements, after which we will get to rebuild more flexibly.

Harad Navar shared a link to the new Gobbocast with a few folks last night. I expect we'll see a public post today.

Yeah, the pod cast was leaked, LOL... Spies and Assassins abound everywhere!

If you write it, it will get out. If you recorded it, it will be heard. If you have trust, expect you may be betrayed.

Welcome to Open World MMOs! Even Divorce Attorneys are afraid to tread these unhallowed halls.

All kidding aside, may few questions / comments from the podcast:

1. What were the exact size buildings needed to support Rogues? Tork had said three, but not their size.

2. Confirmed (for now): Cross settlement training is possible, as long as your Reputation and Alignment allows.

3. Confirmed (for now): Settlements can eventually support all classes, they just have to decide how and when.

4. Confirmed (for now): Towers that are not sponsored by a settlement, but held by a company, have a 24/7 ope PVP window. Also, although a company does gain something from holding a tower (independently) it is not as much as if they were sponsored and it is unknown what will happen with those gains when the cataclysm occurs.

5. Hinted At : Small companies holding settlements from land rush, that could not maintain towers control, will likely reap little or no reward from War of Towers, and have less training in their settlement than a starter town can provided.

Disclaimer: This is after just one listening to.

From what I gathered, Tork made it seem like 6 towers was the ideal. After that, your pvp window gets wider and diminishing returns begins to set in as far as how much pre-advancement you can earn (there may be a cap, unconfirmed).

He made it equally gloomy sounding if you are greedy and try to control too many towers, as having too few. Again, perhaps there is a cap and you would be opening up a pvp window wider then is necessary (no benefit).

Once someone figures out the "optimum" I'd expect every settlement that can will go for that, not one less or more.

I recalled him mentioning the Medium/Large Class Structure (Thieve's Guild/Guildhouse) and the Skirmisher's School, which should be medium. From what he said, my interpretation was that the class specific buildings all come in a medium and large version, with the large being able to be upgraded to 3 classes total. And then you had the multi-role structures (Skirmisher's, Dreadnaught's, Seminary, War Wizard's School, and Occulist) which were all medium.

About the leak, I think he shared it with us because it was done, and he was too tired to write a "blog post" for it, as it was quite late.

Right and Small Structures simply support Role features, meaning all residents could train in other Settlements and simply rely on cheap, plentiful Support Structures in the short term.

If the links are not live on the Gobbocast site by Monday, I'll post a thread with direct links to both the video version and and the audio only version.
