Starting Over question

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Ok so let's say that am playing and I died in the 3rd adventure deck. I know my character starts over with basic cards and no feats. The thing I can't figure out is all the adventure decks that I added to the box. Do I have to remove all the adventure decks untill I am just left with just the basic deck and maybe the character addon? Or do I just keep all the cards as is start again?

Also when completing say...Burnt Offerings would I remove all the cards from the box that have to do with Burnt offerings and add all the cards that are associated with The Skin Saw Murders?
Or would I just add the skin saw murders and leave the Burnt Offering cards in the box?

If you die, you don't HAVE to start the whole adventure path over. You can make (a) new character(s) and continue from where you are. You do have to abide by the rules for creating new characters, but remember that once you start adventure deck 3, you no longer have to abide by the basic trait restriction; you can choose any card that is a least two levels lower than the the deck you are on. So if you die during deck 3, and you want to make new characters and continue, you can use any cards from deck 1 or below. This applies to new characters created to replace a dead hero or brand new characters that you want to bring in. If you do go back to a previous adventure, then yes, you should remove any cards from higher decks.

When you complete an adventure and move on to the next one, leave all old cards in the box and just add the new ones. Always play with cards from the current deck and any previous decks. Do not play with cards from a deck higher than the one you are on.

Continue from where I left off meaning? Does that mean if I am playing The skin saw murders and after 3rd game in that deck I die does that mean that it is the same as losing the scenario only I have to start over only with a character that has his deck and stats dialed back to 0.

Or does it mean I go back to scenario 1. Because I remember hearing that if you were playing with friends and you died you would have to play solo games to get caught back up to where they are. How can that be true if you continue from where you left off?

It's up to you. If you want all the rewards from past scenarios or adventures, then you have to go back and replay them. If you don't care and just want to continue, then do that. Just keep in mind that you have to complete all scenarios of an adventure to receive its reward, and all adventures of the adventures of the adventure path to receive the final reward.

Sovereign Court

Of course since you're not playing OP, you can do what you want. There is no PFACG police watching over your shoulder. ;)

What csouth says is the official rules. I'm personally bit more flexible with the reward for the adventure and adventure path. If a character dies in the middle of an adventure and the player starts a replacement, I'd let them get the adventure reward even if they didn't replay the first few scenarios of the adventure.

In a six player group I'm in, sometimes a person can't make it. We give them the feats everyone else earns, but their deck stays the same and can't be traded with. We are usually all there, but we don't want to have to reschedule if just 1 person can't make it and don't want to penalize the guy that has a real life commitment or situation that prevents them from coming that night.

I would bet death is the thing most often house ruled, and probably is house ruled by the majority of groups. I like the concept of losing everything and having to play through the scenarios to build back up your feats, but in practice we just do not have the time. It is hard enough to carve out the free time to play the campaign.

Our rule is that you keep all of your feats, but lose all of your cards that went back in the box after the scenario. Starting in the next scenario, you rebuild your deck per the rulebook as if you were starting a new character in that scenario. Imagine that the party had to sell off your excess equipment to pay for the raise dead spell from a nearby cleric.

That said, in the one death that we have experience so far, we benched the character (Kyra) and brought in a replacement (Ranzak) that I had been working though the scenarios in a solo game. It just seemed more fitting not to have Kyra return after she had "died".
