Hi all,
We are working on some redesign concepts for our covers and we would be happy to have your feedback. Check out the latest update on our website and give us your feedback. We'll be selecting one respondent at random to get a free copy of Mythic Monsters: Aliens when it comes out!
Sound off, Legendary fans. We want to hear from you!

The current thought is to use the Mythic Monsters logo at the top uniformly across the line, with several different fonts available for the name of the monsters in the book, such as one for space/sci-fi creatures like Aliens, Mythos, or Robots, another for classically evil creatures like Undead, Demons, Devils, and another for traditional monsters like Giants, Dragons, Magical Beasts, and the like.
I'd actually prefer a single font for everything in the monsters series, as it would make it clearer that they are part of the same line.
I'm almost entirely a PDF customer, though, so you probably shouldn't give too much weight to my opinion on printed over appearances:)Jason Nelson RPG Superstar 2008 Top 4; Contributor; Publisher, Legendary Games |

I like the new format with the series at the top. That would look good if its font stayed the same between all of the books in the series. However, that said, the rest of the fonts can change so as to fit the theme of that particular book. Demons could look demonic and creepy, angelic could be elegant and powerful, etc.

I prefer the new design with bigger graphics and brighter colors. Show cases the art instead of hiding it.
Even if you can't get words on the spine a color stripe or printed pattern would help identify the book. For example Kobold Press's Trapsmith book extends the cover art onto the spine, so even though there are no words I can quickly recognize it.
I really enjoy the Legendary books I've picked up, that's just my one nitpick.

I'm conflicted on it. The new version is more eye-catching, but is also more generic. Whereas, the older style is not as "in-your-face," but it is undeniable LEGENDARY GAMES.
So, while I do like the new version for the broad-appeal aesthetic of it, I think I actually prefer the older version for its unique "brand" quality.

I would be interested in what sort of potential hybrid look could be created.
I really like the original design, but opening up the cover some to show more art is a good idea. Personally, in this instance, I don't like the expanded art. Perhaps though that's just my being used to the older style.
On the back however, showing off the art or whatever is a good idea.

I get these things as PDFs so the cover is a minor consideration for me too. Still, I dsilke it when a publisher (large or small) decides to change art/format half-way through a line. So my vote goes to the second image. I also think it looks cooler, even if it's not showing of the all of the artist's work.
Cheers

Keep in mind though - Kobold Press' art director and main graphic designer is extremely talented (not to mention painfully humble). Normal folks could certainly never hope to ascend to his loftly level of super-awesomeness! :)

I'm going to echo Joseph Wilson's opinion here. I like seeing the full artwork, but the older version screams "THIS IS A LEGENDARY GAMES PRODUCT!" My vote is to keep the older version of the cover.
As far as seeing the full artwork, Paizo puts the full cover art on the inside back cover in the Campaign Setting line. If you REALLY want to show off the art in an undiluted fashion, you can take a page out of Paizo's books and display that cover art on the inside back cover. Well, not literally.
I can't believe that Jason Nelson and the rest of the Legendary Games crew is seriously considering stealing artwork like that. I'm ashamed of you!

I always like when full art is shown on the cover, but the old one does look really good too.
What I'm not a fan of, is the use of stroke in the descriptive text on the back cover. If the font isn't clear enough without it, I'd try some different fonts. But that's just me, great looking layout though!

For the New front cover I would prefer a more bordered look, simply to give your cover art a sense of completion as it currently seems to just end. Your old cover while I agree not taking advantage of the art fully did have a sense of "wholeness" that I feel is lacking in this one. Perhaps a blown open metal edging?
I do prefer your old font for the title however as I feel that regardless of the fact that, yes these are aliens, the new font seems to suggest a more
sci-fi game such as Serenity, Traveler, or Shadowrun.
I love the new back cover. I think the reason it feels more complete is due to the overlaying text having a defined space combined with the anchoring effect of the logos and marks.
In short I would switch to the old font and add some kind of subtle blending, edging or bordering to the front cover, perhaps a subtle fade to allow for a more encomposed look for the art.
It does look very professional and well done either way, however I try to be as helpful and constructive as possible, please understand that all of my feedback is based on the fact that I am very interested in these products after you kickstarter showcased such excellent potential.
