Dhampir Gunslinger...just gotta work out the details. Have to wait till my days off though. Not enough time or sleep to work everything out...but she's probably gonna be a real smart ass. She doesn't go for the whole "One True God" bit, and truly believes that there has to be something better out there. Of course her stubbornness and propensity for pushing the rules to the limit gets her into trouble quite often.
I've got some stuff cooking up in my brain, just gotta flush it out.

I actually started making the character and my concept evolved into something a tad more Mieville-esque. I had a few questions about the setting before I put more down on paper.
Would the Wasteland be considered desert terrain? If so, will desert terrain bonuses extend to when we're in the city? Will this be more of an urban campaign?
GypsyMischief |
Those influences for the campaign made me start squealing. Dark sun & Fallout, together!? Oh my, oh my, I must cook something up with extreme haste.
My first little concept is a 1/2 Elven Archaeologist Bard, because playing the Lucky rogue that lives to fight another day through panache, guile and a big ol' knife in this unforgiving wasteland sounds so mega-uber fun.
On the more mundane side of the concept I think this gentleman would've grown up in the learning center to be trained as a boiler-technician. His lithe fingers and unnatural luck made him a perfect fit for working in the facilities dank underground pipe-networks, slaving away in the dank & steam.
Profession [Handyman]

@UT: Yes, the wasteland is considered desert, the city however is not. The type of campaign it will turn out to be is dependent on the players. Want to explore what's beneath Oldenburg? Sure. Want to check on a broken Oasis pump? That's fine too. Want to deal with the city's politics? That option's there too.
I am setting a goal before you, but how you achieve it and how you change the world is up to you.
GM Dust |
This is just an organizational post to see who I have so far.
Phaedra Rose - Dhampir Gunslinger
Eleanor Sibyl - Changeling or Half-elf Summoner
Vivian Mulvaney - Human Rogue
---
Aneirin Hahle - Human(?) Adept
Grand Moff Vixen - Unnamed Race Slayer
Suthuri - Blight Druid or Sorceress
O'Tard - Hobgoblin Urban Barbarian
spacefurry - Kitsune Pistolero(?)
Uncle Taco - Wizard(?)
Lemmy - Magus or Witch or Hexcrafter Magus
Jubal Breakbottle - Reincarnated Druid(?)
GypsyMischief - Half-elf Archaeologist Bard
Del Azast - Tiefling Trapsmith Rogue(?)
Just a reminder: I am closing recruitment after ten completed characters other than the three already in are submitted.
Grand Moff Vixen |
I actually forgot about those ones but yea.
Technically it is still a Ranger alternate. ;)
True, though the slayer has a different enough progression to cause me to consider it.
I still forget those are out there...
As for the Racial Score Modifier, since you are an "experiment", I'd lean towards either Standard or Specialized. Something didn't happen quite right there or it can reflect a more bestial nature within.
I just thought of this as I was looking at the build in Hero Lab. For a subtype, how do you feel about my adding Human? Or would it be too much? I feel it would fit the theme for the race, though it is up to you if it is allowed.
Grand Moff Vixen |
About the feat Scent of Fear, would you allow this? It is from the Classic Monsters Revisited. I realize that it is for Bugbears, however, being an experiment this can be explained by taking the traits from a variety of races that they used in their dna manipulation.
I'll post more in the morning. Heading to bed now.

@Lemmy
Demon Spawn tieflings gain a bonus to str and cha with a pen to int. A bonus to Disable and Perception and Shatter instead of darkness.

Oops! I meant +2 Str, +2 Int and -2 Cha.
I'm about to build a non-Dervish Dance magus, so losing Int is not a good idea. :P
EDIT: Wait... We can build our character's races? Because if that's allowed, I could build a really cool "Tiefling". Like a human infused with infernal power to make it a better warrior/mage. :D
Now that I think about it... That would even fit the Hexcrafter Magus thing! It'd be awesome!
Vivian Mulvaney |
Each Trait is considered a half-feat so you can take an additional feat instead of traits with GM approval. There's also a feat that gives 2 extra traits.
They create additional flavor with a mechanical benefit and act as an aid to flush out backstory and make your character a bit more unique. Each Trait is supposed to be from a different category.
ninja'ed with Flash in your name what els is new?
Aneirin Hahle |
Okay. Apparently having my stats written up in "Notes" on my smartphone is not exactly the same as having c+p'ed that to my Character profile on Paizo. (0.0) Who knew?
Updated now with new trait as well.
@GM Dust there is no starting gold for an Adept (being an NPC I guess it makes sense) - should I use cleric average starting gold? I'm going to drop the cleric's kit and buy some more useful gear. Javelins etc. :)
Uncle Taco |
@GM Dust: I decided to make a shaman instead. I have this really cool concept for a guy who was raised in the sewers and catacombs of the city. That's why I asked about the terrain because there was a possibility that I was going to make him a druid. But I instead want to make him a reflavored nature shaman.
The backstory is almost done, but I'm going to let it sit for a day so that I can proofread it.
However I do have to ask: When using ACG classes, will I be able to rebuild once the book comes out?
Grand Moff Vixen |
GM Dust, what else is known about this learning center? Is it a large complex? Is there any wildlife and outdoor areas with more than just desert in said center? Things like trees, grass, shrubbery, and the like. I am looking to incorporate more into the backstory that is emerging and this will help me to integrate the character better.
Shauldrek |
Using this character as a base, have to revamp his backstory and traits nigh-completely (obviously) but I think he will work well in this world.
I'm thinking an inquisitor for the one god, a repulsive tiefling who only ever saw approval in the eyes of the instructors responsible for indoctrination, and so does whatever he can to please them and the god they serve. His physique and personality leads him to killing the enemies of the god rather than study and worship.
ALSO: since we're all starting in the same communist-esque schoolhouse/city, is Poverty-Stricken an allowed trait?
ALSO ALSO: What can you tell us about the god? (name, holy text, available domains, favored weapon, etc.)
GM Dust |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
@UT: Yes, when the ACG comes out you may rebuild your character if you like. The playtest material is solid enough that a rebuild isn't mandatory if the official release doesn't appeal.
@GMV: The learning center of Lohne is more of a town, dominated by the classrooms of the east end. There is a arboretum/gardens/park/farm in the center of Lohne where druids do most of their study. Whatever can be done to stave off the encroaching desert is a main concern of Oldenburg's higher-ups.
There are shops and restaurants, students receive a stipend each week for necessities and little things. Usually, the stipend is only enough to cover necessities and merchants only stock "approved" merchandise. Students who exhibit good behavior and excel in their studies receive a little more, maybe enough for a meal at one of the nicer restaurants. The dormitories lie to the west and are typically cramped. Room assignations are merit based. Rumors circulate of private rooms.
There are two train stations in Lohne, the one going south to Oldenburg and one going east. The eastbound train is only for students who have failed to behave in a socially accepted manner and failed in their studies. That train doesn't leave often, but it does leave.
The main rule of Lohne is "Do what you want as long as you do what you're told." Days are broken up in to breakfast, morning session, lunch, afternoon session, dinner, evening session and then sleep. Lights out are at 10 pm. Morning and afternoon session are your basic curriculum: math, sciences (as they are), physical activity, social studies (politics, econ), literature (approved, of course) and your elective profession training. Evening session is your class training. Arcane magic users are given better training facilities, but more prohibitive rules (think Hogwart's but the penalty for breaking these rules is death). Arcane students are constantly monitored and assessed for psychological well-being.
I think that covers Lohne unless you have other questions.
@Shauldrek: You are fed and housed, so no Poverty-Stricken.
God is merely God. The instructors of Lohne don't really expound on this a whole lot and don't bother to refer Him/Her/It by any name, though several float around. As long as behavior is in keeping with what's expected, nobody cares how they refer to God. It's all one and the same. Evening sessions were dedicated to worship and study for divine classes. The holy text is "die Wahrheit" ("The Truth), which is about as dry as a textbook. Controversial study groups argue about the existence of several gods, based on a report of artifacts recovered from underneath Oldenburg. The study was quickly hushed and evidence of it burned, but not before it slipped through the cracks and ended up in the hands of those willing to forego a nice meal for that tidbit of info. If any copies of that report are found in Lohne, they are burned and the possessor is quickly put on the eastbound train. As far as anyone can determine, God provides access to all domains. No one was actually "seen" or "heard" God in order to prove or disprove the existence of multiple gods. The favored weapon of God is the longspear.
