Best Community Created Stuff?

Rise of the Runelords

Out of all the other AP forums, ROTR is famed for having the most comprehensive library of community created items. Given the amount of material out there, what community created things have been the most useful for your campaign? Extra cookies for explaining why. :)

I think the most useful thing I've used thus far is the Swallowtail Festival games. I like the opening to Burnt Offerings, but the setup is a bit rushed as written. "You're all at Sandpoint for a festival. You have already done a bunch of festival stuff. As you're gathering for the dedication of the cathedral, you hear a shout from the crowd. Suddenly, goblins. Roll initiative."

The games give the PCs time to not only interact with each other, but more importantly, interact with the citizens of Sandpoint. The party will be spending the first book and a half around Sandpoint, and will be coming back periodically over the course of the series. As a GM, you need to acquaint the players (and thus, the PCs) with the people in the town. You need to get them to care about them. The games let the party interact with several of the NPCs, and start the ball rolling on that front.

I also saw that some people had made some haunt handouts for Foxglove Manor, but I didn't care for the entries that were written up. I've been meaning to post the ones I created, but I keep forgetting to do so. I should really fix that...

I'd like to see that!

By far, the best fan-made item I've used in the early game has to be the remake of Tsuto's journal. The example in the book just doesn't feel right, and the remake is so much better. It is actually hand-written, has better sketches, and even has some of the other drawings given in the description.

When I handed this out to my prior group, they kept referring back to it for the rest of that chapter.

On a slightly-related note, I made a better version of Tsuto's letter to Ameiko. The one in the Community Stuff thread is a letter-by-letter transcription, and that type of writing isn't done that way. I went through the trouble of translating the text into Chinese and used the proper fonts and layout.

(I was recently told that the Minkaian language more closely resembles Japanese, so I might be remaking that note soon.)

The community created Swallowtail games and NPC speeches would have been of great use to me, had I found them sooner.
As it is, the most useful for me has been the pdf of all the town NPCs, with bits of info about them and their stats. Only a couple NPCs are statted out in the AP. The list of skills and the associated modifiers, plus the list of relevant feats some have and languages spoken; have all been a major boon. Plus, it also helps to have a face for each NPC.

Can you link that, Athos? That sounds interesting/useful.

I THINK this is it. But can't double-check through my work's firewall (shhh, don't tell my boss!). The name sounds correct and I know it's a .pdf file.

Nualia's journal.... AWESOME! Tsuto's journal AWESOME!.... I wish WAYFINDER would have devoted an entire issue to sandpoint and the hinterlands.... their sidetreks in the Varisia issue were awesome... chopper's isle, under the Old Light, Deverin's Folly... all good stuff and very usuable....

seriously... many of us that are new to the game love having supplemental material for our AP's.... unfortunately, it seems like ROTRL is old now.... so folks are not intderested in creating supplement content... but with the BEGINNER's BOX coming out, I think that Sandpoint deserves alot more development....

For example, I decided to make the sandpoint devil the child of nualia.... Gorvi is a drunk bc his fiancee ( a half orc paladin) was captured by the sandpoint devil.... das korvut's story followed the choppers isle story from wayfinder....

What about turandurok academy??? that place seems like Hogwort's light.... so much potential to have fun in the Hinterlands... I feel like rotrl almost tried to cover too much by starting travel out so fast to magnimar in chapter 2.....

Oh well.... love paizo, love pathfinder, and love the community!

Indeed... what ABOUT Turandurok Academy?! That place seems amazing and nothing is done with it anywhere. Great post Orchestrator. Agree 100%
