Bola and Multiple Attacks

Rules Questions

At 6/1 would two Bola's thrown at the same person cause two trip attemps or just one?

You could attempt to trip with your first bola. If it fails, you could attempt to trip with your second bola. If your first trip succeeds, then they're already prone, so you couldn't attempt to trip them again (and your second attack would also suffer the -4 penalty for them being prone).

You make each attack separately. So you'd make your first attack at +6 and see if that successfully trips. If it does, your opponent is now prone and can't be tripped again unless he somehow stood up as an immediate action in between attacks (and you've probably got an additional penalty to hit him with the second ranged attack since he's prone).

If the first attack fails to trip him, you can make a new attempt to trip him with the second attack at +1.

Again, LOL.

I'm on a roll!

Thanks! Thats what I was hoping so I need to take something down I can keep hitting him till he goes down. If he is down I can throw it at the next guy.

Also would a stealthed Bola attack provoke an attack of opportunity from point blank?

Sczarni

I wouldn't think so. If you've successfully used Stealth before your attack, your target is unaware of you. It's no different from you being invisible.

And I suppose you could even try to snipe as well.

Can you trip and deal nonlethal bludgeoning damage at the same time? Or do you have to choose either/or when making the attack?

From what I have seen it looks like you can. Or with a shaonti bola do damage and trip.

Sczarni

Bolas are no different from any other trip weapon, save for the fact they can be used at range.

You either choose to trip or damage. Not both. Barring some obscure class ability or feat that I'm unaware of.

Maybe it was. Someone at one of the tables I was playing at made an attack with a Bola, trip and did damage. Thats good to know though. Had me thinking for a bit that this must be the games most power weapon.

Just got an idea for a Enlightened Paladin. He sneaks up within 5 ft of you trips you with the bola....then uses lunge to kick you after you fall down.
