You make each attack separately. So you'd make your first attack at +6 and see if that successfully trips. If it does, your opponent is now prone and can't be tripped again unless he somehow stood up as an immediate action in between attacks (and you've probably got an additional penalty to hit him with the second ranged attack since he's prone).
If the first attack fails to trip him, you can make a new attempt to trip him with the second attack at +1.
