Then again, he's the only one of those three particular cousins my younger brother and I actually like to any extent. He less of an a*&+$** than the other two.

Coming from my brother and I, two a##+!@&s extraordinaire, that says something.

I feel this desire to start a new thread, but I have no idea what kind of thread. It's almost annoying.

We have a cat trying to adopt us. I've been debating whether to call animal control. They could also take care of the (at least) two other cats I see regularly roaming around the neighborhood. One of them looks like Crookshanks, from the Harry Potter movies.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried to find anyone to adopt it? I mean, I get you don't want it, but maybe Jess would know someone. She's a big cat person. Animal control is often a death sentence for strays.

Scarab Sages

To be honest, I never really considered it. I suppose I could, but to tell the truth, I'm not actually sure it doesn't belong to someone already.

Most responsible cat owners would have a collar on their pets.

Scarab Sages

True, but it disappears a lot, for long periods of time. Makes me wonder if someone doesn't already claim it.

Well, if that was the case then calling animal control would be traumatic for someone out there.

If you get to the point where you want to call animal control try Jess first. Just a thought.

Scarab Sages

I'll probably end up being indifferent. The little hell beast is mostly just an annoyance.

Scarab Sages

Time travel - it's a b*~~&.

Scarab Sages

I've really got to stop staying up past midnight.

Scarab Sages

My brother and I (and our families) had a great visit/lunch with our cousin yesterday. He flew down from Minnesota to buy a truck - apparently, used vehicles are in much better shape down here. Not sure about my brother, but that was the first time I'd seen him in nearly 10 years (when I got married).

He's got a wife of his own now. She's from Kazakhstan. Very nice young lady. She was really friendly and great with the kids (for never having met any of us before). From what I hear, my cousin just sort of shows up with her one day, married. Everyone up in Minnesota was surprised. He seems happy though, which is cool.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods! The children allowed us to sleep in until nearly 7:00 am.

IT WAS GLORIOUS!!!

Scarab Sages

Yesterday I was introduced to BatDad. There are YouTube videos and a Facebook page. Go watch them. The dude is f*~!ing hilarious.

Scarab Sages

Took the boy to a birthday party today. He had a blast..

BatDad is quite hilarious. I'm surprised you've never come across him before

His wife must be one of the most patient, loving, and understanding women on the entire planet.

Scarab Sages

My 10 year old nephew has apparently started doing similar things to his mother (whose name is Jennifer). The other day, he approached her with a Captain America mask on and (in his best BatDad imitation) said "Jen, did you make my lunch?"

Memories light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories of the way we were

Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were.

Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line
If we had the chance to do it all again, tell me, would we, could we

Memories may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember we simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter we will remember
Whenever we remember the way we were.

The way we were.

Scarab Sages

Sometimes I hate trips down memory lane. It reminds me of how much is gone, never to be regained.

Scarab Sages

And.....now I'm in a mood.

Scarab Sages

Ah well, at least I have left over red beans for lunch. Mmmmm.......

Scarab Sages

However, for some strange reason, my Diablo III game is acting up. Grrr.....

Scarab Sages

Of course, if I can't play that, it might encourage me to do some other things I've been meaning to get around to. Like making some mead.

Scarab Sages

So....silver lining. There's nearly always one to be found.

Scarab Sages

I ended up spending a good portion of yesterday working on the Diablo III issue, communicating back and forth with the Blizzard Support people and trying different things. In the end, I followed what I'd always heard as basic IT advice - turn off the computer and unplug it for a few minutes. That seems to have done the trick.

Scarab Sages

I was going to make some mead, but found that my yeast nutrient had gone bad. So I had to run out to the homebrew store to pick up some more. I also got some fresh sanitizer.

So, today should be the day.

Scarab Sages

Accidently scared the beejebus out of my baby girl this morning. The boy had already come downstairs on his own, so I went upstairs to first get him some clothes, then wake her up. As I was walking past her door, she opened it, not expecting me to be right there.

Scarab Sages

Apparently, school is teaching my boy and his classmates some dancing in preparation for a Hoedown. This might terrify me beyond the capacity for rational thought.

Scarab Sages

The other day I went out to get the mail. Baby girl followed me to the front door. After I went out, I heard the lock click behind me. Sure enough - when I got back it was locked.

And now you know why I always bring my keys with me.

Scarab Sages

Brewed the mead yesterday. I've got the fermenter sitting on the floor in my "office" area. I'm hoping baby girl won't get curious about it and decide to f!#& with the air lock.

I don't want to actually call attention to it by telling her "don't touch", because then she'd be sure to mess with it.

Scarab Sages

There is no bubbling yet. This has me a bit bummed.

Scarab Sages

Today - gumbo.

Scarab Sages

One day. Outside. Inside. Not sure which. I will have a secret door.

I'm holding out for a pit trap with spikes, myself.

Scarab Sages

Spikes coated in poison.

Scarab Sages

I watched Justice League Dark last night. Not bad.

Scarab Sages

I also made gumbo. Mmmmm....

Scarab Sages

I had enough gumbo left over to fill up two quart freezer bags. And a larger plastic container (possibly for tonight if my brother and his wife want some for dinner instead of pizza). And a smaller plastic container for lunch today (for the wife and I).

Scarab Sages

Ooh
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Dig in the dancing queen

Friday night and the lights are low
Looking out for a place to go
Where they play the right music
Getting in the swing
You come to look for a king
Anybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music's high
With a bit of rock music
Everything is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance

You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet
Only seventeen
Dancing queen
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Dig in the dancing queen

You're a teaser, you turn 'em on
Leave 'em burning and then you're gone
Looking out for another
Anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance

You are the dancing queen
Young and sweet
Only seventeen
Dancing queen
Feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah
You can dance
You can jive
Having the time of your life
Ooh, see that girl
Watch that scene
Dig in the dancing queen
Dig in the dancing queen

Scarab Sages

Because it's been stuck in my head, and will maybe go away if I share it.

Aberzombie. You might find this interesting.

Scarab Sages

Or, I could buy an adhesive temperature strip for around $4.

Aberzombie wrote:

For an engineer, that is cheating.

Scarab Sages

My brother and his wife came over with their kids last night for pizza, snacks, gumbo, etc. Whilst the kids were banished upstairs, we adults played Card Against Humanity. It was fun. There were a couple of times I thought my wife and sister-in-law were going to pee their pants, they were laughing so hard.

Needless to say, I won.

Scarab Sages

It was nice to have adult fun though.

No. It's the Keep It Simple rule. I don't need too precise a control on temperature when I'm brewing or fermenting. A range of acceptable temperature is sufficient. The adhesive strip is an inexpensive and easy to install measurement tool, with the added bonus of not taking up any amount of space that matters. It's the most bang for my buck.

Scarab Sages

Mrgh.

Scarab Sages

This has been a big do nothing weekend. I hate big do nothing weekends.

Scarab Sages

I did take the kids to the playground for a bit, just to get them out of the house and give their (always) tired mother a break. It lasted about as long as it took baby girl to decide she had to use the potty. Inconveniently, both bathrooms at the playground area were locked. Since we are trying to discourage her from "just going in the diaper", I was forced to bring them home.
