Scarab Sages

For some reason, the thought was stuck in my head that my wife wasn't coming home until tomorrow. So I'm glad I re-checked her itinerary, since she actually arrives home today.

Scarab Sages

I did buy one new Christmas decoration for the front of the house this year, but only because that strip of grass and garden between the walkway and the driveway was looking rather bleak.

It's a light up owl. The wife has a thing for owls, so I figured she would like this.

Scarab Sages

Now that the rain has stopped and outside is drying up, I can set the aforementioned owl up sometime this morning.

Scarab Sages

Huzzah! I am no longer pulling single dad duty!

Scarab Sages

I bought a Classic Lego set for the boy the other day. It's going to be one of his Christmas presents, either from Mom and Dad, or maybe his Granny. Haven't decided yet.

Scarab Sages

He's also going to get an Angry Birds Movie Lego set, much smaller than the classic one.

Scarab Sages

Now it's just time to nail down what he wants from Santa. Last time I spoke with him about it, he was wavering back and forth between a bicycle or a drone.

In discussing this with the wife, we were both hesitant about the drone. We think (a) he might be a little young for that, and (b) It'd end up in the neighbors yard, getting chewed on by their a+$+*+@ dogs.

Mrgh. I am bored.

You are a board? Ok. ~pounds some nails into Aberzombie's head~

I bought my daughter a neck pillow in the shape of a dolphin. I thought it was cute.

'Twas a bit chilly this morning, but that just meant I finally got to wear the new hat wifey bought me while she was in Amsterdam.

Scarab Sages

The boy has stated he would like Pokémon and a drone for Christmas. The Pokémon should be easy - I'm sure there's lots of toys and other related gear. I will not buy him the cards, as (a)he's only 5, and (b)at this point, I'm not so sure I want him to become a gamer. Sure, it'd be his choice, but as dad I can maybe steer him clear of that particular choice.

Scarab Sages

I was going to surprise the wife for Christmas with a Netflix account (she's been wanting to watch that new Gilmore Girls thing). On Thursday, as soon as I started looking into it, I found out they have a free one month trial offer. So now we have a Netflix account. Haven't used it yet.

And since it was free, I went ahead and told her about it right after I signed up. It didn't seem appropriate to use something free for a month as a Christmas gift.

Netflix is a great service. I'm running through Breaking Bad on it right now. I'm thinking of segueing into some of the Star Trek franchises I didn't follow like Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise

Scarab Sages

We had my brother and his family over last night to celebrate my baby girl's birthday. Later in the evening, once the guest were gone and kids in bed, I sat down to watch Stranger Things on Netflix, since I'd heard so much good stuff about it.

Damn, that's a really good series. I worked my way through 4 episodes. Very solid acting by Winona Ryder. Very weird story. I look forward to seeing where they're going with the rest of it.

Scarab Sages

So, with that, I didn't go to bed until after midnight. Sometime between then and a little after 0700 this morning, my baby girl threw up in her room. Neither of us heard anything, but when we questioned the boy later on, he said her throwing up and fussing was what woke him up. Not sure if he's telling the truth, or just telling us what he thinks we want to hear.

Now we're kind of in wait and see mode. She had been complaining of a tummy ache for the last day or three, but never had a fever or any other problems. This morning she did have a slightly elevated temperature. So, we'll keep an eye on her and see if we need to take her to a clinic later.

Scarab Sages

Interestingly, the boy had also been complaining about his tummy bothering him. He did have the Hershey squirts a bit the other morning, and his appetite was practically non-existent from Friday night through this morning.

This morning, however, he seems fine.

Scarab Sages

The boy is a bit sick, so I kept him home today. Which sucks for both of us - him not feeling well, and me unable to finish Stranger Things.

Scarab Sages

Thankfully, baby girl seemed to be doing much better.

Keep at Stranger Things! Great series

Scarab Sages

I was going to try and finish it up today, but with the boy home sick I cannot. It's not the kind of show he can watch. I may be able to finish it up tonight after he and his sister are in bed.

Scarab Sages

The boy is sitting on the floor here in the office area, with the old computer's keyboard on his lap, banging away at the keys. When I asked him what he was doing, he said "playing a video game".

Scarab Sages

Damn you, pestilence! Damn you!!!

Scarab Sages

After three days of being out sick, the boy went back to school today. Here's hoping he can make it through the day.

Scarab Sages

Now, if only the wife and I can get (relatively) healthy, we'll all be in much better shape.

Positive waves!

Scarab Sages

Mucho appreciated. It has been frustrating, to say the least. Especially considering I also had the stomach bug the boy was afflicted with, only it did not hit me as hard. Almost as soon as I got over it, however, BAM, I get hit with the sinus issues.

Scarab Sages

Sinus problems go away
If you come back another day...f$&+ you.

Scarab Sages

At least it's Friday.

Scarab Sages

When I started up the car this morning, Queen's We Will Rock You was on the radio. For the rest of the drive over to daycare, baby girl was singing "We will, we will, rock and roll."

The boy was getting angry with her for getting the lyrics wrong. I told him it was no use arguing, since.....female.

Sisters are there to teach their brothers this fact. I know mine taught me it, plus the lesson that you just don't argue with crazy. It's like picking an argument with a cloud.

Scarab Sages

I like that cloud phrase. I shall steal it, if you don't mind.

Scarab Sages

I have told the boy his desire for a drone for Christmas may go unfulfilled. Primarily because I have yet to find any drone whose recommended age range descends below 8 years old. He will be 6 in February.

I'm going to Toys R Us today to see what they've got, in hopes of surprising him, but my expectations are not high.

Scarab Sages

At least I'll be able to get him the Nerf guns and Pokémon stuff he wants.

All yours

Ralph the Elf (our Elf on the Shelf, named after Wreck-it-Ralph), decided to use a roll of painters tape from my garage to spell out "Merry Christmas" on the kitchen cabinet doors, until he got tangled up in the tape, that is.

Scarab Sages

I might just have to mosey on over to the pharmacy and pick up some 24 hour Sudafed. This 12 hour shit is for the birds. It always ends up me having to take some in the evening, then I have trouble sleeping.

With the 24-hour, I can take some each morning, and not be afflicted with some form of insomnia.

Good eye catching the Easter Egg :)

Scarab Sages

Lots to do this weekend.

I have to take my baby girl with me to Walmart so she can pick out a Christmas gift from her to the boy. He already picked out something for her earlier during the week while he was out sick from school.

We've got to finally decorate the tree. It's the fake one I bought for our first Christmas down here. I don't like to use it, but we just didn't have time to get a real tree this year, what with the wife being out of town for the first week+ of December, then baby girl's birthday weekend, then sickness all around.

We have to take the kidlets to see, and get their pictures taken with, Santa. Hopefully, baby girl will not cry like she did last year. We'll probably go to the mall a bit north of us, since they also have a kid's haircut shop and we've been thinking of getting baby girl her first ever haircut. It's only been three years.

Plus, the usual stuff: grocery shopping, laundry, etc....

Scarab Sages

1 person marked this as a favorite.

In other news, I have successfully gotten my wife hooked on Jessica Jones.

My tree is three feet tall. It suits me for now, but I do hope my living conditions improve to the point where I can have the space for s full tree. I'm a synthetic tree guy, we've always had one.

Did you finish Stranger Things?

Oh yeah! Great f~$#ing show! It reminded me a lot of my youth, insofar as the references, cars, visuals, bike riding all over, etc. Not so much regarding the psychic chicks, people-eating nightmare monsters, or bizarre shadow realms. It also reminded me a lot of some Stephen King stuff - can't help but wonder if the creators are fans of his.

Winona Ryder's performance was really great. I also liked the sheriff dude. Last time I saw that actor, he was in The Equalizer with Denzel Washington, also playing a cop, but a crooked one. Of the kids, the one with the missing teeth was my favorite. Matthew Modine was creepy as f@++.

Wait whut? Matthew Modine AND Winona Ryder are in this? Shoot, now I'll have to see it.

Scarab Sages

Ugh....it's gonna be a crappy Sunday. In more ways than one.

Scarab Sages

In other news, the wife and I only have 2 more episodes of Jessica Jones to watch.

Scarab Sages

So, we went from a high yesterday of around 80 degF, to an overnight low in the 30s. High today is going to be in the 40s (probably colder with the wind chill).

Winter is so weird.

Scarab Sages

I keep hearing good things about Rogue One. I suppose I'll have to find some time this week to go see it. Maybe they'll have a cheaper, early showing.....
