Also, it's truly amazing, but not many people ever talk about the strength of Jim Gordon. Here's a man, without all Batman's training and wealth, who still deals with the same trash, vermin, and psychopaths. He's seen a daughter shot, paralyzed, and sexually assaulted by a clown-like lunatic. He's had a wife killed by the same madman. And he hasn't broken.

Scarab Sages

Thirdly....Mmmmmm....beer.

Scarab Sages

Taking the boy for his Kindergarten evaluation this morning. They'll asses what level he's working at and assign him to an appropriate class.

Then, in another week or so, we'll find out who his teacher is. From what my brother tells me, I'm hoping for Mrs. Johnson.

Scarab Sages

More coffee! Then....hair cut!

Scarab Sages

A good day so far. And in a little while I shall go to the theater to see Suicide Squad.

Scarab Sages

'Tis a rainy Saturday morning. Oh joy.

Scarab Sages

Actually, that's not bad. We needed the rain. It cools things off. And, since I don't do my daily walk around the lake on the weekend, I'm not losing my exercise time.

Did you see Suicide Squad?

Scarab Sages

Yes. I enjoyed it, despite the overuse of Harley Quinn and gaping plot holes.

Margo Robbie's performance, however, was excellent. Still doesn't make me like the character. Will Smith's Deadshot must be along the lines of the modern version - less of a psychotic super-assassin with a death wish, and more of the super-assassin who also happens to be a great dad. Very sad, really. The lady who played The Wall did an awesome job. I actually thought she was one of the highlights of the movie.

I've had coffee, bacon, and snuggles with my baby girl. So far, it's been a good (if wet) Sunday morning.

Scarab Sages

Almost time for a new TMNT. The boy is very excited for the return of one of our Sunday rituals.

Scarab Sages

Very rainy Monday!

Scarab Sages

Still very rainy. Which is very annoying, as I have not been able to go out on my morning walks around the lake.

Just under a week until the boy starts Kindergarten. Last night, we went to the school for a parent's only meeting. They wanted to go over some details for the coming school year.

One thing they pointed out - they'd prefer if, for the first day of school, the kids arrive the same way they'll be doing it all year long, so as not to confuse them. This upset my wife a bit. She was planning we would both drop him off and pick him up the first day, then he'd switch to taking the bus to/from daycare everyday. I almost told her "Suck it up, buttercup". That's something I find myself saying to the boy with increasing frequency.

Scarab Sages

On Thursday, we get to bring Charlie by for Meet the Teacher, and we'll finally find out who's class he's in. They have six or seven kindergarten teachers. I'm hoping for Miss Johnson. She's already taught my niece and nephew, so it would be cool if she had the boy as well.

Scarab Sages

Then, next year, she can teach my other niece. And a few years after that, my baby girl.

Scarab Sages

If that doesn't make her hair turn prematurely white, nothing will.

Scarab Sages

Downloaded my PDF copies for part 1 of the new AP. I think I'm actually excited for an AP for the first time in probably 2 years.

Scarab Sages

Did some quick scanning through of the new AP pdf. Looks really interesting. They had a great article on the Elder Mythos, detailing the various entities making up the pantheon. I hope to one day play a cultist of one of them in a game.

Scarab Sages

Another end to another unproductive week. Ah well, at least I found that copy of Unreal Tournament on my computer.

Scarab Sages

Except, of course, now my hand hurts...

Scarab Sages

Watched the animated Batman: Year One again last night. Such a great adaptation of an excellent Batman story. I couldn't help thinking, however, just how awesome it would be if they went ahead and did the Batman: Year Two story as well. I think McFarlane's art would look great animated.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods! How I f~#*ing hate the kids bedtime. Not that it's hard for me. Whichever kid I get usually gives me no trouble. The wife, however, always seems to piss whichever one off.

Scarab Sages

If my tear ducts weren't broken, I would occasionally weep for the utter stupidity I see spewed in these parts.

Scarab Sages

And that's not even counting some of the dumb crap I post.

Scarab Sages

I have to take the boy to get his hair cut today. It's too long. Besides, school starts on Monday.

I would cut it myself, but I only know how to shave heads, and the wife has forbidden that.

Scarab Sages

The boy is starting Kindergarten today. The wife is freaking out. I'm drinking coffee and hoping it doesn't rain so I can do some garden work.

Boy. After a week of nephew-palooza, I am impressed with your wrangling of small children. Even my dogs would hide after a while

Scarab Sages

Indeed. They can be hideous little engines of chaos nine times out of ten.

Yeah. Four nephews 8,6,2,1. All engines of chaos. Well, the 8-year-old wasn't bad. He's going to grow up to be a most sober and reliable fellow. The 6-year-old is a whirling dervish though. He's got adventurers blood in him for sure.

Scarab Sages

And on Friday, I'll host my brother, his wife, and their three beasts for a joint Family Movie Night.

Five beasts, four adults. At least the 10 year old is a bit more calm.

Scarab Sages

Some people may wonder....Why the thread resurrection this morning? Well, I'll explain.

I was fixing the boy's lunch this morning, and trying to decide on a snack for him. I briefly considered some Zapp's potato chips, but had to discard that idea. They are fried in peanut oil, which makes them a definite school no-no. That quickly got my mind thinking about the seeming vast increase in peanut allergies today, versus when I was a kid. Lack of coffee thought processes did the rest....

Scarab Sages

And this is how my brain sometimes works.

Scarab Sages

Wednesday. Day three of the boy in Kindergarten, and so far things are going smoothly. He hasn't gotten in trouble for talking yet, which is a miracle unto itself.

Scarab Sages

Might go have lunch with some of my former co-workers.

Luckily I am focused and see no thread resurrections. Nothing good can emerge from the unholy OTD graveyard.

Looks like I will have a little monster soon to play with and corrupt with games and shiny toys and tales of fantastic things

Scarab Sages

Some resurrections aren't too bad. In this case, it was a joke conspiracy thread, with a very apropos originator. It was all in good fun.

Scarab Sages

Had lunch with two former co-workers yesterday. Little Mexico. It was nice.

Scarab Sages

Today - dentist appointment.

Scarab Sages

Family movie night yesterday evening, with special guests - my brother and his family. There was pizza, and delicious cookies, and The Angry Birds Movie (Peter Dinklage as Mighty Eagle is f+@$ing hilarious).

Scarab Sages

I'm usually not too keen on video games turned into a kid's movie, but this one was a pleasant surprise. Not completely for kids.

Scarab Sages

I'm often amazed at how much restraint I can show in the face of overwhelming stupidity.

Scarab Sages

Sadly, I had to say 'no' to the boy regarding a game he wanted to download for his Kindle. It was Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. While it is an awesome game, and I'm sure he might eventually love to play it, at the moment he is only 5 and it's too complex for him.

Scarab Sages

There is much to do today. Target to visit. Clothing to buy. Ribs to smoke. Etc.

Scarab Sages

Busy morning already. Up early to get the kids ready for school/daycare, which involves making sure they get dressed, get breakfast, go potty, and one lunch gets made. Then there's actually getting them to daycare (they bring the boy to school for me).

Back home: coffee, taking care of some early morning business, breakfast (Mmmm...bacon), washing some dishes, emptying (and beginning to refill) the dishwasher.

Then I come here to spread joy.

Later, I'll go for my morning constitutional. Might go about replacing a burned out tail light on the Trailblazer. Some applications to fill out and other internet/computer work will round out at least my before noon time.

Scarab Sages

The baby back ribs I smoked yesterday came out magically delicious. Had some bacon in there as well, on another rack. Said bacon is now in the red beans, cooking happily away.

Scarab Sages

Mmmmm....red beans and rice.

Scarab Sages

I need to learn programming so I can create a fighting game where you get to name all your opponents and even vary what they look like with tons of customizable facial features. Then you can make them look like, and name them after, people you don't like.

I've already got a few people (especially from my old job) in mind.....
