Scarab Sages

Today's challenge shall be trying to cut my hair with my hurt finger.

Of course! Bacon is a fundamental good!

Scarab Sages

Bacon is one of the fundamental pillars of goodness. There's also beer. And Popeye's Fried Chicken. And Boiled Crawfish. And Spring.

Scarab Sages

I should include Texas as well.

Whereas things like Winter, New York, mayonnaise, wine coolers, and categories that begin with words that start with the letter "Q" are all part of the fundamental forces of evil.

Scarab Sages

I speak from a place of experience and wisdom.

Texas?

Scarab Sages

Indeed, Friend Monkey! Indeed!

Scarab Sages

So....a good morning so far, for a Monday. My finger seems to be doing much better. I'm going to try and arrange for a check up on it either Wednesday or Thursday. My boy's got a bit of a cough, but he was otherwise in a good mood when I dropped he and his sister off at daycare. My commute to the office was pretty smooth.

My supervisor is back in the office after being out most of last week. Not sure if I mentioned it, but his daughter in Philly had a massive stroke and nearly died. At one point her chances of survival were down to around 1-2%. But she's made it a week, and while still in critical condition, the fact that she's made it that long is a very good thing. And she's in a really good hospital.

My younger brother and I are going into New Orleans this weekend - in part to see our brother from North Carolina, who's coming to visit my mom and dad. We are, of course, also going to see our father - he's not doing well.

We'll take care of making certain arrangements while we're there...just as a "let's get ahead of this so we're not scrambling at the last minute" type of situation. My mother already had a priest come by to see my dad, just in case.

It sucks, but in all reality, my father has been gone good while now. His body just hasn't caught up to that fact.

Scarab Sages

Time to try and go make something of the day.

checks out antipaladin package

Hm. Looks like I can smite Texans AND Whedonites and still move in the same round. Interesting.

damn. I'm sorry man. My dad turns 81 tomorrow and he said he was glad that he had his facilities and could work everyday.

Ah ha! See! Antipaladin! I always said New Yorkers were evil! :)

Scarab Sages

Happy Veterans Day to all who served! Thank you for your sacrifices! Home of the free, because of the brave!

Scarab Sages

And....my co-worker is back after a lengthy absence due to complications from surgery on his junk. He had a big blood clot form...down there. Very painful. But the docs got him fixed up.

YIKES....

Glad to hear he's back. That must have been awful.

Blood clots...down there....

Yeah, I'd say that's one of the very definitions of awful.

Scarab Sages

In other news, it's been a week since my accident. Gonna try and go get the stitches taken out today.

Scarab Sages

Also: F@%& you, winter! You're feeble skills are no match for the power of the Houston Side!

Scarab Sages

And now, time to go do.....stuff.

plays eye of the tiger while doing training Montage to ensure wunian snow dance is at full strength

Scarab Sages

Yeah, good luck with that. Houston laughs at your sad, little snow dance. All it ever really does is help kill the skeeters off.

Win win from where I'm standing. I hate mosquitos.

Scarab Sages

I'll make a mental note to my good buddy Joss that his next movie should involve an invasion of New York by the genetic love child of Alton Brown and a mosquito.

Of course, if SyFy channel monitors these messagboards, I've just given them their next movie of the week.

Scarab Sages

Went to a CVS Minute Clinic yesterday to get my stitches out. The finger is healing nicely, but I'll have to be gentle with it a bit longer.

Of course, in hindsight the Minute Clinic might have been a mistake. Today I'm not feeling so hot. I'm hoping I didn't pick up anything in that little pit stop of pestilence.

Scarab Sages

Especially since I'm supposed to go to New Orleans this weekend.

Scarab Sages

You see, this is why winter, ultimately, sucks and is despised by decent people - it heightens the sicknesses.

Scarab Sages

Of course, school does the same thing.....

Scarab Sages

No wonder they coincide.

Actually the cold kills diseases, or makes them a bit more lethargic. It's spring that brings sickness. Winter brings famine.

Scarab Sages

The only really good things about winter are: less skeeters, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

You're welcome.

Also thanksgiving is fall not winter.

Tell that to my sinuses, and my wife, and kids, and coworkers, and some of those other kids at daycare, and my niece, and.....

Scarab Sages

But I understand your defense of that most s%$%ty of seasons - it is the dominant one in your city. If I lived in New York, I would also be seeking as much joy in as many other things as possible.......

that is due to allergies in late fall and dry sinuses in winter.

nonsense. We have all four seasons here each in their time. Winter is my favorite yes, and it is magical in NYC yes, but it is but one of the four. As opposed to places with monoweather patterns like Texas.

Heh. Texas has different seasons. You want mono weather? That's California. Idiots put on parkas if the temps hit 55 degrees *smdh*

Yeah speaking as someone who has lived in a mostly mono-weather state - Arizona has "summer" (hot and dry), "monsoon" (hot and humid), or "winter-ish" (cooler and occasionally rainy but otherwise dry) - Texas has fairly varied and distinct weather patterns for the different months. They're all warmer than further north, but it's pretty clear when spring becomes summer, summer becomes autumn, autumn becomes winter, winter becomes spring. It's about as clear as it is here in Tennessee/Georgia.

forgive them. They live on the wrong coast.

Warm is relative in this context. Yeah, if you were to visit there, or move there, you'd probably consider it warm (at least for the first few yeras, until your body acclimated). But compared to the rest of the year it's noticeably colder and with different weather patterns.

If by warm you mean highs in the 60s, yeah. There were times I had to defrost my windows before driving to work.

Which is why I believe CA poisoned my mom. She wore long sleeves this year until the weather hit 105+.

Santa Barbara was pretty bad about only having one season. Weather never seemed to change much.

I've had to do that a few days already.
