My work at this fab yard was about done (funding-wise). Now the client has informed me they would like to keep me around until at least another two weeks (until the end of September).
This is both good and bad. Good, because my office doesn't have a lot of other work going on. So this will ensure I stay employed for the next two weeks. Bad because I'll still have to deal with the s$#~ty commute and idiots working the project.
For an example of idiocy....
A month and change back, the client said to make sure everything is built to the Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Yesterday, the visiting client rep told me we needed to add isolation valves for the sight glasses on the multi-vessel. These valves are NOT shown on the P&IDs.

Have I mentioned that I finally realized the Riddick character is basically Conan the Barbarian in space?
I am slowly coming to dislike being a cub scout den leader - mostly because it's a big pain in the ass for me. I can't rely on the other parent's to be helpful in all this. And even if I could rely on them, I'd prefer not to, since they'd probably screw things up anyway.
Have I mentioned I suffer from the belief "if you want something done, do it yourself"?
This second year is going to be particularly trying - my boy and one other scout attended day camp over the summer. Each of them earned six belt loops - mostly elective adventures, but one was a required adventure.
So now I have to plan things out so I'm not repeating things the two of them did at day camp. At the same time, there's at least the one required adventure I have to repeat at some point, so the other kids can earn their wolf badge.
And too many of the electives they left out of day camp are ones that suck ass.
This is why I dislike people - they tend to do (or refrain from doing) things that make my life more annoying.
At least I get to look forward to grilled kabobs and corn tonight.
And I may go to Target and see what kind of Halloween decorations they have for sale. I always love their selection of tombstones, and typically add at least one to my collection of decorations each year.
I managed to restrain myself at Target this weekend, and only spent about $65 on new Halloween decorations.
In my defense, one of those was a $30 headstone. I love the ones they have at Target, because they're usually the heavy, durable kind. I dislike the foam ones.
Anyway, I try to add at least one headstone most years. This year I also added to large-ish skeletal bats, and two plastic zombie arms that stick up from the ground.
The boy started his faith formation classes yesterday. These will prepare him for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.
I just hope they don't ask him how often he goes to church with his family. Daddy has been....lax....for the past 20-30 years.
Anyway, back at the grind today. Only now I'm back and forth a lot more between the old site and the new one. I may switch to operating out of the new one, since they have (or soon will have) coffee over there.
My current vehicle is 12 years old. I'm hoping I can get a new one this year, but I can't count on being in a position to do so.
Well, that was an eventful week.
I had to move over to the fabrication shop's new facility, since they took the Wi-Fi device out of the office I had been using at their old facility.
We had our first Pack Meeting of the year for the Cub Scouts. That was....chaotic. Not sure I'm looking forward to this year. My total for scouts in the den is up to 15 (maybe 14 if they kid who dropped out mid way through last year stays dropped out). And, according to the Scoutbook website, one of them is a girl. So now I have to check with the cubmaster to see if they're going to keep her separate or not. I can't recall how we said we'd work it.
Saturday night we had my two nieces sleep over. My brother and his wife were going to an Astro's game. That was fun.
And now it's back to the grind. So to speak.
Well, this is turning into a rather s!%+ty week. I can't wait to see what fresh horrors the universe has in store for me these next few days.
The week continues to be s&&$ty. I probably shouldn't have questioned the universe on what else it had in store for me.
On the other hand, at least this nightmare project is almost at and end for me.
Ironically, that is both good news and bad news.
It's been off and on raining all week. Which fits the theme the universe has in mind.
For s@&$s and giggles, I've been re-watching Penny Dreadful. Such an awesome series. And, fittingly, it lacks a happy ending.
In musing further on the passing of Mr. Breyfogle, I once again realize that no matter how s*+~ty my week has been, there's likely someone out there whose week has been infinitely more s+*~ty.
It does not change the fact this week sucks for me, but at least it reminds me that I still have a pretty decent life. All things considered.
Overall, the week ended up being crappy. There is some slight glimmer of hope for near-future being not-crappy, but that glimmer does not come without it's own shadows.
Meh. Whatever comes, I'll just have to roll with it.
You take the good.
You take the bad.
Yout take them both, and there you have...
The facts of life.
The facts of life.
Still, it's times like this when I dearly wish I could divorce my life from the negative effects on it brought about by the actions of others.
In other news, however, there is video of some dude in a kayak getting slapped in the face by a seal...using an octopus.
Hello Monday! You bastard love child of Satan and the End of Days.
Another weekend where I did not accomplish anything of significance.
And, so far, today is my final day on this project from hell. I know the fabricator is sad to see me go, as each PM has come to rely on my to help keep things on track.
Whether or not the client will come through with an extension remains to be see. If they're going to, however, it better happen before COB today.
The idea of which I have mixed feelings about. I really do hate this project, and having to commute to and from this place every day.
On the other hand, I REALLY like getting paid.
Ah well. It is what it is.
Today's rambling brought to you by the numbers 5, 99, and 1,345,746, and the letters "GO F%#! YOURSELF NELSON".
Please note, if there are any posters here about with "Nelson" as any part of their name, the previous post is NOT about you.
Aaaannnd...now I'm tempted to create a thread simply titled "Grar".
Most of my Halloween decorations are up now.
Especially the Tree of Woe.
Or, sometimes, the Tree of Whoa, if I'm in a Keanu mood.
The boy was feeling like s&+~ yesterday morning, so wife took him to the urgent care. He tested positive for both Strep and Flu.
To make things a little more crazy, after his first round of medicine and a good night's sleep, he seems to be feeling infinitely better today. Weird.
To make things even more crazy, I'm feeling just a bit off, the wife is feeling blah, and she's supposed to be leaving for a week-long business trip to Greece later this evening.
I told her if she's really worried about being sick on her trip, just go to the urgent care and get tested. If it comes back positive, she's got justification for cancelling.
On the other hand, Facebook shared a memory with me today, from 5 years ago. It was the boy (around 2 at the time) stomping across the living room in his Batman PJs, saying "Nanna, nanna Batman!"
Being a parent is so awesome.
Sooooo...apparently Turner Classic Movies (TCM) is doing a Monster-of-the-Month, and this October it's the Mummy. From what I can tell, this means mummy-themed movies every Sunday. HUZZAH!
Yesterday, I recorded three of the 40's Universal Mummy movies. I watched two of them already - The Mummy's Hand and The Mummy's Ghost. I'll probably watch the third one, The Mummy's Curse, later tonight.
Unfortunately, next week it looks like they'll be showing more comedic mummy movies, such as Abbot and Costello Meet the Mummy.
Another grim and gray day dawns here in Houston.
And now that cooler weather is finally arriving, I must see about getting the boy some new long pants. Maybe even some new long sleeve shirts.
Stoopid return of warmer weather. I was really hoping to get a longer break from the skeeters.
Bela Lugosi made some really cool, non-horror (to me) movies. Sweet!
I never thought I'd say this, but thank the gods Halloween is almost over.
Although, if we could just skip Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, just move right on into the new year, that'd be great.

Halloween is now officially over. I have taken down all my decorations. You're welcome.
In other news, I finally found a replacement sci-fi/geek things news website. I had, for many years, relied on what is now called Syfy Wire.
The new site sciencefiction.com, does not seem to be updated as much. However, what it lacks in quantity of new stuff, it makes up for in other ways...
