Scarab Sages

A week ago today, the wife and I took the kidlets to the Houston Livestock and Rodeo. It was cool.

We didn't do actual rodeo stuff.

We walked around inside the NRG center, among the shop stalls, displays, and other attractions (petting zoo/honey bees/pony ride/baby chick hatchery/etc). The livestock part was...interesting....in a smelly sort of way. And there were baby calves, at least one of which was just born the day before.

We also went outside for a bit to the carnival they had set up. The boy enjoyed a ferris wheel ride with me (baby girl was too short).

All in all, it was a nice way to spend several hours.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise, this past week was...very busy.

Scarab Sages

Saw the announcement about the playtest for the new Pathfinder edition. My response at the time was.....

.....Meh.

I don't game enough (as in at all) for it to be a big deal to me.

Scarab Sages

I let the kidlets stay up later than usual last night, as we were watching Thor:Ragnarok. The boy like it. The wife seemed to like it was well.

Thanks to my wisdom in allowing this, both kids slept later this morning.

After they went to bed last night, the wife and I continued to watch Jessica Jones season 2. Interesting, so far. Not as good as the first season though. David Tennant really made that a pleasure to watch.

Some kind of doctor, I think....

Scarab Sages

The boy enjoyed his second campout with the Cub Scouts. This one was to Brazos Bend State Park. No attacks by angry wildlife this time, but we did get some up close time with the local alligators.

At the beginning of the month, I started back with the company I worked for when I first moved down to Texas. While I enjoy being a practicing engineer again, and getting paid, I find that it's not the same.

For one, my old supervisor retired. I liked him, even if he was kind of weird. He as very intelligent and had tons of experience. He had been in charge of both the mechanical engineers and the chemical engineers. Now, they've split his job in two. The new head of the mechanicals (my new supervisor) is cool enough, but I'm not sure he likes me very much. The new head of the chemicals is a douchebag a&&&*+$ punk m~%%!~@$~@@#. I think he's pissed that they split the old supervisors job up, instead of giving it to him outright. Anyway, he's a little weasel prick. Good thing is, I've heard rumors he's pissing off folks higher up the food chain than himself.

The other thing that makes it not the same is the simple fact that I don't trust those m*&%+*&%!$!*s. They f#@~ed me over once, when they let me go during the downturn. Who's to say they won't do it again?

Scarab Sages

Got rear ended driving to work two Monday's back. No damage to my car. The chick who hit me was driving a Toyota of some kind, and it hit the socket for my trailer hitch.

Happy Almost Easter AberZombie! :)

Scarab Sages

Same to you.

I was hoping mine would be nice and quiet, but my wife had other plans. Now we get to host two of her more annoying relatives.

Scarab Sages

Happy Easter to one and all! 'Tis a glorious day here in Houston. The sun is shining, the sky is blue, and the temp is not too warm.

Scarab Sages

I currently have ribs in the smoker. Later, after they are done, I shall use it for a beer can chicken.

Scarab Sages

This morning, the wife was fussing at me because I "jumped the line" for coffee. My baby girl said " You have to be nice, because it's Easter."

Scarab Sages

The Easter Bunny brought the boy the Red Lion from Voltron (Legendary Defender). Now he only needs the Blue and Yellow to have the complete set and form mighty Voltron.

Little does he know, we've already purchased them. I told him he might get one if he does good on his report card (all A's, but I'd probably except at least one B). Then he's still got enough of his birthday money (plus some newly gained Easter money), to purchase the final lion.

If, by some strange occurence, he doesn't do well enough on his report card to merit a reward, I'll let him "buy" the Blue Lion with his money, then maybe daddy will own the Yellow Lion (since the pilot, Hunk, is an engineer) and let him borrow it.

LOL,

Sounds like me buying toys,... for my kids! Of course! :P

Scarab Sages

Mmmmmm....gumbo

Scarab Sages

Of course, this now means I have no gumbo at home. Therefore, some must be cooked in the near(ish) future.

Scarab Sages

For some inexplicable reason, we did not own a copy of the Disney movie Brave. That has now been rectified.

Scarab Sages

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Also, my baby girl has discovered the My Little Pony TV show. She watched it while the boy and I were away running errands. When we got back, my wife was....less than happy. She compared watching the show to watching a bunch of 12 year old girls hyped up on drugs.

Scarab Sages

Beautiful weather the past two days, here in Houston. The sun is shining, but the temperature is not too high.

Scarab Sages

Yet, despite the wonderful weather, I am somewhat grim, mostly due to the actions of an extraordinarily anal douchenugget here at work. I swear, he's so tight-assed, if someone shoved a piece of coal up his ass, he'd probably s~*~ out a diamond.

Scarab Sages

Still, as Daniel-san so kindly reminded me, we must think positive thoughts.

Scarab Sages

I was, at the least, really nice to some other drivers on the way to work this morning. So....good road karma.

Scarab Sages

It has been a somewhat not-bad weekend, so far. Today I shall make gumbo, using some chicken I cooked in the smoker yesterday.

Scarab Sages

It was delicious.

Took care of Mother's Day and my Anniversary with a single gift - bought the wife Fleetwood Mac tickets for next February.

ummmm gumbo [/drool]

And last Sunday, for a Three-Birthday Party, we boiled crawfish over at my brother's house. Mmmmmm.......

Scarab Sages

I learned a few somewhat valuable lessons last weekend.

1. The Houston Zoo's parking situation sucks all kinds of big, hairy testicles.

2. Due to #1, never try to go to the Houston Zoo on a holiday weekend, and never ever go without a plan to get there well before the zoo actually opens, so that you might (MIGHT) get a parking spot that isn't several miles away.

Scarab Sages

We finally bought my baby girl a set of furniture for her bedroom. It was delivered this past Saturday. Earlier this morning, around 3 am, she finally fell out of the bed for the first (and hopefully last) time.

Thankfully, I still have the guard rail we used for the boy when he first started using a twin bed.

Scarab Sages

Amazingly enough, I still have not seen The Last Jedi, Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, or Solo.

That last one is understandable. This was the opening weekend, and I almost never do that if I can avoid it. As for the others.....

I've heard from at least two different people The Last Jedi was crap, so figure I'll just wait until it comes on Showtime or Starz and maybe watch it then.

As for Infinity War and Deadpool 2, it's been a combination of busier schedule (the only downside to working again), other higher priorty s!*$ to do, not feeling like spending all that money to go to the theater, and a general lack of enthusiasm.

Scarab Sages

My boy got all A's on his final report card, which also makes all A's for the year and a spot on the A Honor Roll. He also got something called the Koality Character Award (Kuenhle Koalas) because...."He is funny, nice, and kind. He is a good friend and an awesome student."

I'm very rpoud of him.

Scarab Sages

On the other hand....my baby girl dumped out her water cup in her room so she could have a puddle to jump in.

Scarab Sages

My company has pimped me out for awhile. This new client is based in another city, but having two packages fabricated here in Houston. The fab shop has fallen behind in the schedule, and our client wanted me to come in and act as a sort of package engineer, helping answer any questions for the fab shop, and trying to find a way to either get things back on track, or at least stop them from slipping further.

Or, to put it more bluntly, I have to aggravate the s+!+ out of the people in the fab shop.

Scarab Sages

Of course, this isn't something I've ever really done before. I'm not sure what I said to the client to convince them otherwise.

Scarab Sages

It's not something I really wanted to do, either. However, I correctly guessed that if I did not, my company would not have much other work for me to do. And I didn't really want to give them an excuse to let me go again.

Scarab Sages

So, here I am, in unfamiliar territory. Away from my lovely office Kuerig, which dispenses sweet liquid go-juice at my command. Away from the few co-workers I actually do like. Very much missing the shorter commute time.

Scarab Sages

On the bright side, I'll probably get to reduce the amount of junk food I consume.

Scarab Sages

It's also a little warm outside, which sucks when I have to spend parts of the day out there.

Scarab Sages

Apparently, we are going to be getting some very nasty weather this weekend, into Monday. Meaning I have the potential to be stuck inside the house with my little beasts this weekend. Oh joy...

Scarab Sages

Food-wise, however, the weekend has the potential to be pretty good. I'm planning to smoke some buffalo chicken wings on Saturday, as well as some chicken thighs to go into gumbo on Sunday. Mmmmmm......

Scarab Sages

And now.....lunch!

Scarab Sages

Whoa! For a second I thought the Dingo was back. Digital Necromancy induced false alarm.

Scarab Sages

Off and on rain for the last few days has really made my life a bit more challenging, especially the work part. One of the main vessels, and a crap ton of pipe spools, are all at the paint shop for coating. Rain causes delays in coating. Stoopid rain.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise, this particular job is kind of boring and slightly pointless. I don't think there's really enough going on at the moment to justify me being on the job full time, but if that's what the client wants, that's what the client gets.

Scarab Sages

Season Six of Voltron: Legendary Defender was pretty cool, though.

Scarab Sages

So was Incredibles 2. The wife, kids, and I went this past Sunday morning to see it. A 9:30 am showing, and it was still pretty crowded. And if the make-up of our crowd was similar to others across the country (and I'm thinking it was), then I think they were really smart to think lots of dads might want to see this.

Scarab Sages

Looking forward to season 2 of Luke Cage starting up. I'm curious to see where Misty Knight will get her bionic arm from. Maybe Rand? Maybe Stark? It would be cool if it came with a little Stark logo somewhere.
