Scarab Sages

Easter Bunny brought me peeps.

Happy Easter!

Scarab Sages

Same to you my friend. I hope you had a good day, and one that was quieter than mine.

16 hours of work, with a full cast of characters. I'm glad it's almost done

I give you PCU. Especially awesome for the appearance of George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic.

Definitely seems like it would not be quieter than mine. We had only ourselves.

Scarab Sages

My day was....pleasant. The kids were back in school. The wife actually went in to the office for the first time in about two weeks.

Lesson 22 - Blessed Silence.

Scarab Sages

Rainy day. So, no morning constitutional.

Scarab Sages

Still, I believe the movie Split is being released today on Bluray/DVD. Meaning it should also be available On Demand. I've heard good things about it, especially James McAvoy's performance.

And since I have plenty of time on my hands, I don't have to wait until this evening.

Scarab Sages

My boy continues to be stubborn about his diet. Some had suggested that his diet might expand during the school year, when he was exposed to so many other kids eating different things. I knew better.

I hate to have to take more drastic measures, but he might leave me with no choice. Might have to cut out any and all candy, cookies, chips, pretzels, etc.

Scarab Sages

Baby girl started off great. Now, however, she's begun to get a little more picky. She doesn't want Red Beans anymore. She'll still eat the rice, but wants it plain. So, half a victory.

Scarab Sages

I was very bummed. Split was supposedly available for purchase (on disc) as of yesterday, which typically means it would be On Demand as well. It was not. At least, not through U-verse.

Scarab Sages

Applied for a job. Got a voicemail saying they wanted some times I would be available today. I called back and left them times, asking if they could let me know about when they'd be calling. Didn't hear back from them. So, now, I guess I just get to sit around all day waiting for them to possibly call.

Scarab Sages

The company does engineering forensics. Seems like it would be cool. Of course, the main reason I applied for the position was because the location as pretty good.

Scarab Sages

We'll see. I'm not going to hold my breath, though.

Good luck!

Ah.

Watched the new M. Night Shyamalan movie last night, Split. I thought James McAvoy did an excellent job. And the movie itself was pretty decent. There were some weak points in the plot, I think. Overall, however, I thought it one of his better movies in a long time.

The bit at the end, with Bruce Willis' character from Unbreakable, was really cool. I look forward to the promised third movie, with characters from both films. Maybe an epic battle between David Dunn and The Horde.

A bit of interesting potential trivia....

Spoiler:
....In Unbreakable, there is a scene were Dunn passes by a mother and child and senses abuse. There is now speculation this child was the McAvoy character from Split.

When I went in the boy's room this morning, he was sitting up in bed. He told me he had woken up and thought his clothes hamper had eyes.

Soooo....now I have to restrain myself from going to Walmart to pick up some eyes to attach to the damned thing.

Scarab Sages

I shall be successful! If for no other reason, than I do not like to intentionally traumatize my children.

Scarab Sages

Otherwise, Happy Friday?

Scarab Sages

Not really sure. The jury's still out.

Scarab Sages

It ended up being a pretty decent Friday. Started off with me wanting to get out of the house because I don't like being her when the cleaning ladies show up. So I decided to run some errands.

First up, I stopped at Total Wine and More to stock up on my current two favorite beers: Beer For Breakfast Stout and Zombie Monkie Porter. While I was there, I engaged in some polite conversation with one of the managers. She informed me they had Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA in stock. Huzzah! Unfortunately, it was a two bottles per person limit (probably a good thing, since it's about $10 per 12 ounce bottle). So I wandered over to customer service to pick up my two bottles.

Next up, I went to Half-Priced Books. Spent a little bit of time looking around, and picked up a nice book on potato recipes for about $6.50. Then I went next door to the comic book store and picked up what was in my folder. Spent about 40 minutes or so just shooting the s~@% with the guys who work there. Turns out it was one dude's last Friday, as he just got his big break/foot in the door with a local game design company. I then mentioned to him I know people who do freelance for Paizo. We also discussed our shared dislike of that little tool Nick Spencer. So that was fun.

Fast forward to yesterday evening. The wife and I took advantage of Parent's Night out to enjoy dinner, some beer, and conversation with my brother and his wife. On the way home, we stopped at Barnes and Noble so I could buy a copy of the 10th Anniversary Edition of American Gods (to which Gaiman added like 12,000 words). The copy I bought was one of the new editions with the Robert McGinnis cover. F%&$ing sweet.

Scarab Sages

By the by, I never did avoid the cleaners. They came after I had run my morning errands.

Scarab Sages

Still, I got to sleep in this morning. Didn't get out of bed until a little after 7 am!

Scarab Sages

Now, it's a bright, sun-shiny day! Full of possibilities.

Scarab Sages

Too bad possibilities don't pay.

Scarab Sages

Feeling blah since yesterday. Not sure why. It interfered with my normal routine, however. I didn't even leave the house yesterday.

Scarab Sages

At least I finally got through the entire stack of comics I had saved up.

Scarab Sages

Ye gods! I thought Microsoft was bad about constant updates. I'd say 75-85% of the time I try to get into Netflix some kind of updating is going on.

Scarab Sages

Still feeling a bit off. So much so that I forgot to bring the kidlets' backpacks into school with us. Had to turn around and go back. Sad, considering they were sitting right on the seat next to me.

Scarab Sages

It's a cool, but beautiful, morning. Started out in the low 50s. Supposed to get up into the 80s.

Scarab Sages

A skeeter must have gotten into the house last night. Poor baby girl had bites all over her legs, one arm, and some on her face. They didn't seem to be bothering her, at least.

Scarab Sages

So I've heard lavender is one of the plants you can put around your house to help keep the skeeters away. What's good about that one, in particular, is that everything I've read indicates you don't have to do anything for it to work. Other than the obvious of taking care of them.

With some of these plants, it's the oil they secrete that helps keep the skeeters away. So you actually have to rub that oil onto things to get it to work.

I might go over to Lowe's today and pick up some lavender plants to put by the front and back doors. Only problem with them is they attract bees and wasps. That might make them a no-go.

Lavenders are pretty tough great scent to them as well

Scarab Sages

Yeah, but I'm more worried about the "attracting bees and wasps". Especially wasps. Just last year I had 2 or three red wasp nests I just out front of my home. Those little f@**ers are angry. All the time.

Scarab Sages

There is a possible alternative. This thing Bed Bath and Beyond sells. It diffuses oils into the air. My brother tried it, and he said it worked somewhat for him, as long as he put in like triple the recommended amount of oil. Only problem is, from reviews, it seems you need to make sure it stays dry. Back porch wouldn't be a problem. Front would be.

Scarab Sages

Either way, the skeeter issue is a tough nut to crack.

Yeah wasps suck. And lavender does attract bees. They suck less, but can contain some suckitude. Mosquitos are a pain practically everywhere. Except the desert I guess, but then you get scorpions

At least we don't have those crazy Japanese hornets. Those things are nightmare fuel.

Scarab Sages

So, what we thought was skeeter bites on baby girl may or may not have been. We found what we thought were more of them while giving her a bath last night. My wife, in her infinite wisdom and paranoia decided to rely on her WebMD prowess to diagnose the child with hives and keep her home today.

Of course, after I got back from dropping the boy off, baby girl woke up with hardly a mark on her. So....maybe not anything serious. Wife asked me if we should get her dressed and bring her to school. I told her to knock herself out, that way she could explain her jumping the gun directly.

Scarab Sages

S~*+ like that is why I used WebMD once, and now avoid it like the f$$*ing plague.

Scarab Sages

Of course, it could just be the wife was looking for an excuse to work from home today. I cannot really fault her for that. Her commute sucks big hairy goat ballsacks.

Scarab Sages

I'm consistently amazed that my prolonged (and very unwelcome) period of too much free time has not resulted in even more time spent on these boards, posting nonsense. Sadly, I feel it has less to do with me not needing another way to waste my time, and more to do with the unwelcoming vibe I get from the boards these days.

Scarab Sages

Still, I must find new ways to occupy my time. Diablo III is starting to get a little boring.

Scarab Sages

Getting close to grilling time!

I found that when I was unemployed I actually felt like I had less time. It was weird. I guess being busy makes you maximize your schedule. I got a real bad case of the menyanas while I wasn't working.

Scarab Sages

A dose of Benadryl last night, a dose of Zyrtec this morning, and baby girl was good to go back to school. Doctor thinks it's some kind of environmental allergic reaction, which can be...difficult....to track down.

Scarab Sages

The wife foolishly stayed up late last night, then was woken up around 1230 am by the boy. So that's her excuse for today to not go into the office.

Scarab Sages

What annoys me most about situations like that, is later during the day, she'll b##+# and whine about being tired. Well, f~*+! Don't stay up so g~%#$+ned late then.
