What does a development manager do in a usual day?

I just noticed a few posts by Cort Odekirk, listed as paizo development manager. I'm not sure if its a recent appointment? Or perhaps I'm a little slow on the uptake..either way - hi cort :)

I saw a few posts in different areas and it made me wonder about the role and where it fits in to the big picture. Any chance someone could enlighten me?

Yes, it is a recent appointment; and Hi! Really happy to be here, it's wild and amazing place to work.

I'm the development manager, which is to say I manage the technology side of the house (dev, sysadmin, QA, etc). When you request a new feature, that request makes its way to me and gets prioritized and, if it passes muster, placed on our Grant List of What Must Be!

Some of you saw me at PaizoCon, I'll also be at GenCon, so come by and say hello, I'm always interested in hearing your thoughts on the site and what we can do better.

I can see where it's somewhat confusing, as we use the term "development" very differently on the production team. :-)

Yeah, that's bitten me in a number of conversations.

"Hi, I'm the development manager!"
"Cool, what book are you working on?"
"... err, O'Reilly's WCF reference guide?"

I've learned to say "Software Development Manager" when in gamer crowds.

Have you been tempted to play on the assumptions of people instead or explaining you are in a different department? I mean the possibilities are endless "Well the working title is Kender of Golarion, but we are changing it due to legal reasons" or "Oh, the Book of Delights. Its about uh, Festhalls."

I'm curious: beyond feasibility/cost considerations, what kind of things to you consider when looking at an idea about the site?
